SELF GUIDED WHAT TO EXPECT

You were looking for a vegan travel product that promoted unstructured adventure, delivered value and allowed you have a stress free vegan friendly holiday.

That’s exactly what you can expect!

I’ve created Self Guided vegan adventures in order to make vegan travel available to more people, we all travel differently so you can use this self guided workbook to create a structure for your next adventure without having to be tied into dates, time and schedules.

I know you’re keen to get going but hold your horses there for a minute you’ve got some guacamole to prep, you’ll need your passport to hand and (amazing and possibly new especially for this project) stationary for note taking.

You’ll be able to work your way through the trip notes for Urban Adventures whilst tailoring it to your individual needs and requirements safe in the knowledge that your cash is becoming part of a powerful, expanding conscious economy and that you’re actively promoting the availability of a lifestyle in which animals, people and the environment are not being exploited, one lovely vegan holiday at a time.

Pura vida amigos!

This is what they say in Costa Rica, it means the pure life and is always said with much enthusiasm, occasional hollering and the bashing together of oars if you happen to have just survived a white water rafting trip.

May your adventures inspire you.

There is an incredible world out there waiting to be explored, consciously, compassionately, safely and passionately.

Feel free to celebrate with a raw vegan carrot cake.

In service.

pssst....stay tuned over on my Facebook page as I’ve been working on something super exciting for you that you’ll be able to involved in towards the end of July

WELCOME VEGAN ADVENTURER

I hope you’re having a lovely day, Emma here, I would like to say a quick hel lo and show some gratitude for you having signed up.

If you haven’t worked with me, met me in an airport, hiked a volcano with me, been on a motorbike adventure with me, drank coffee with me or eaten too much cake with me then here’s the quick version of who I am.

I spent over ten years leading trips in south and central America, Europe and Africa before switching from general adventure travel over to serving vegan traveler’s in 2012.

I provide self guided and guided vegan adventure holidays in Europe and Latin America allowing you to have hassle free vegan friendly holidays.

I’m also mildly addicted to coffee, raw vegan carrot cake and possibly the most un photogenic person in the world, hence the from a distance shot above.

I would love to meet you some day, until then let me know what you doing over on Twitter // Facebook and become part of the growing community of virtual Veganbnb Travelers.

PLANNING TOOLSI know you’re keen to get going, holiday planning is super exciting (especially when it even involves the purchase of new stationary) so let’s get going.

You’ll need a comfy chair, refreshments, possibly some guacamole and chips for snacking and your passport.

YOUR TURN

The main reason I want to go on holiday is _________________________________________________

TOP TRAVEL TIP

This is also a great time to check you passport expiry date.

When traveling internationally, many countries require that you have a minimum of 6 months left on your passport at the the time of entry.

It’s very inconvenient and a bit embarrassing to arrive at your dream holiday destination after traveling for two days to then be sent home again.

FOOD GLORIOUS FOODWhat do you do if you don’t have access to good quality, fresh produce?

Move closer to the source, this is why I’ll only live in countries where avocados grow.

I’m not going to harp on about the amzingness (yes, amazingness is a word) of vegan cuisine in Spain because words like delicious, mouth watering and sensational sound really cheesy after a while and like I’m explaining the buffet on a cruise ship.

However, I will say this, because it’s true; Spanish cuisine reflects the country's history, regional cuisines are very different but nearly always have common ingredients such as garlic, rosemary, oregano and thyme and then of course, there’s always the olive oil for an added bonus.

During Franco’s reign (dictator that ran the country with an iron fist from 1935 to 1975) people’s ability to travel freely was restricted and it wasn’t uncommon to have to produce passports or identification to move from one village or town to the next.

This subsequently curtailed (curtailed is a nice word isn’t it) the movement of produce such as lovely fresh fruit and veg, however, it did create regional cuisines as people had to make do with what was available.

RANDOM TRUE STORY

In my early twenties I lived in a very rural part of Spain for around a year and my neighbors were a dear little old couple in their late seventies. They often invited me over to eat cheery’s (right from the tree) on toast and one morning shared the story or their union.

They were young lovers during Franco’s reign and came from separate villages which were prohibited to travel between so he used to ride for days on his donkey risking life and limb and avoiding the military just to see her.

So romantic!

TOP 5 VEGAN DISHES TO TRY ON YOUR SELF GUIDED VEGAN HOLIDAY

Ajo blanco: gazpacho’s friendly cousin, a chilled almond, garlic soup served with grapes

ACCOMMODATION OPTIONS

I have been hustling to bring you great vegan friendly accommodation options that offer good value, support local economies and do not not partake in anything funny, strange, odd or illegal which may cause you any sort of moral conflict or challenge your core beliefs or values.

All accommodation options and business that I work with will:

*Be locally owned

*Have a workforce of at least 50% locals

*Not use bed linen or other materials that are derived from animal source within the bedrooms

please note that the following options are regular Spanish hotels which are as vegan friendly as possible, I’m working on owning my own chain of vegan hotels but have quite a lot on my plate, however, watch this space as you never quite know what’s around the next continent.

pssst.......always remember to tell hotels if you’re celebrating something special as it’s the quickest way to get a room upgrade, it’s amazing how many people would find a reason to celebrate when I used to tour lead through the Honduran islands in the Caribbean with rooms opening up onto the sea.............but Emma, me and my partner are celebrating the fifth anniversary of the day we took the cat to the vet to have his toe nails clipped and for that we definitely deserve the room with the balcony

WHY I LOVE THEM

Who wouldn’t love a boutique hostel that has

room names each based on a different sweet or cake!

Besides that, they have a lovely cafe on site which offers great coffee, juices and (hurrahhh) they stock

soy milk.

THE ROOMS

There are only 8 rooms, on the website go to the ensuite room option where

you can choose between rooms, Tiramisu, Carrot cake, cheese cake,

cupcake and brownie, I can personally recommend the Carrot cake!

The rooms are all sparkly clean, use a bright fresh white as a base colour with

subtle accent colours linked to the individual theme of the room, all the

ensuite options have air con.

LOCATION

Right in the historical centre down a cute pedestrianized street looking out onto the Holy Martyrs church and

conveniently next door to a wonderful spa.

If you take a taxi to the centre of Malaga, just remember that you will not be able to access the actual street that Dulce

Dreams is on as the whole area is pedestrianized.

Taxi drivers are likely to drop you a couple of minutes walk away, to avoid getting completely lost whilst dragging your luggage around an unfamiliar and linguistically dangerous

location in the blazing midday sun, make sure your download their map.

Dulces Dreams, Sweet Dreams is a small boutique hostel owned and run by a

small group of Spanish friends who are very much

hands on and have managed to create a unique

and special environment which, in their words, offers the comfort of a hotel and

charm of a boutique hostel.

AT A GLANCE

Price: €50 - €70 for a double room

Location: Historical centre

Bonus Factor: Next door to an amazing spa + on site

cafe

Extras: Luggage storage, free wifi, bike rentals +

airport transfers on offer

PRICE RANGE

Great value, the price for a double room is between €50 - €70, just remember

that rates are seasonal making May to October

prices higher.

After over ten years of working in the adventure travel industry and having had the privilege to have seen a lot of the world, this is what I know to be true:

*Tourism is one of the fastest growing economies in the world

*The business volume of tourism equates that of oil exports, food and car manufacturing

*Tourism represents one of the major sources of income for many developing countries

*Tourism represents 25% of all new jobs in Spain

*In countries such as Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua, tourism is currently a national priority

*Industry and economy will always react to demand

*Collectively, we can create that demand for more vegan friendly products and services allowing us to promote the availability of a lifestyle in which people,

animals and the environment are not exploited, one lovely vegan friendly holiday at a time

............................................................................................................................

psstt....a few other things I know are true

*If you put your clothes on the same side as your exhaust pipe whilst on very long motorbike trips an exhaust shaped hole will appear in everything you own

*Mexican police rock and will always help you out of sticky situations

*If you walk around for long enough in the woods in Spain during the winter you’ll eventually find beautiful wild asparagus

COFFEE SHOP READING: WHY TRAVEL ANYWAY?You're all set, iPad at the ready, you're off to travel the world.

From the lovely snuggly warm corner of your favourite coffee shop.

Due to the internet we can explore the world without even having to leave home so why travel at all?

First of all let me say that I am a lover of the  internet and without it would not have a business but it’s becoming increasingly hard to disconnect; my iPhone now has coverage in the jungle (I'm not quite sure if that's amazing or awful).

I remember when the only phone that worked in the jungle was an ancient flip top Nokia (and although I'm not usually a hoarder I’m quite attached my old nokia and still have it in case of Armageddon type emergencies).

So why travel anyway?

Essentially, to enrich your personal journey through life.

Maybe, whilst discovering about ancient  civilizations  in Guatemala you’ll discover something about yourself.

Maybe whilst connecting with new people and cultures you’ll become reconnected to your own values and sense of purpose.

Maybe whilst having to overcome a travel issue you’ll begin to realize that you’re capable of far more than you ever imagined.

Maybe whilst walking on foreign lands far away from home you’ll begin to feel more grounded than you have in years.

Maybe, whilst having new experiences you’ll let go of old patterns that no longer serve you and open yourself up to something new and exciting.

Ancient civilizations  travelled in order to trade and discover new lands which is all about economics however,  pilgrims of the past embarked on journeys of moral and spiritual significance  towards a shrine or location  important to their beliefs and faith, they weren't just hanging around on their sofa's on a Saturday morning with their soya milk lattes, they decided to show up in their lives and  take a leap of faith.

May your vegan journeys be enriching and insightful.

Let’s create the demand.
