I have been very impressed with the attitude and commitment shown by our ACC Athletics Squad members during Term 3; they have demonstrated with persistence and resilience, performance improvements will indeed result. We have an excellent Squad once again this year and I am confident that we will be contending for promotion to ‘A’ Division. No matter what the outcome, I am sure all our student athletes will do their very best. Now is the time to remember our Athletics Squad core values from which success will follow:
Dedication
Hardwork
Ambition
‘Dedication’ and ‘Hardwork’ have been exhibited throughout training; it’s now the ‘Ambition’ that must be used in order to compete for the top three or four places in each individual event at the Carnival to ensure overall Squad success. Every single student involved, whether they be competing in an individual event or five individual events; are only part of the relay team; are a travelling reserve who may be called upon; or are acting as a student Official or Marshal, are integral parts of the Squad and have equal importance in order for the squad to be competitive. The ‘Final ACC Athletics Squad’ will be published this Friday (12th September) as advertised in the Athletics Programme Booklet and training schedule given to all students; it will also be updated on the Sports noticeboards in School and e-mailed to parents of those specific students involved.

ACC ATHLETICS SPIKES RULES The mondo track is designed such that athletes will depress the surface and the ‘rebound’ effect will propel them forward, thereby maximizing performance. This will only occur when a ‘blunt’ spike is used. As such, the ONLY spikes PERMITTED for use on the track are of the Christmas Tree and Pyramid shape variety as pictured below. The material of which the spike is made eg. ceramic or metal is irrelevant and as such will not be monitored.
For local competitions the spikes must conform to the rules below:
Track spikes must not exceed 7mm and must be Christmas Tree, Pyramid/Cone shaped. Sharp needle point spikes are not allowed.
Field spikes must not exceed 9mm except for
Javelin and High Jump which must not exceed 12mm.
