From the Helm………………
Flag raising is done, and I've been told that being the Commodore is going
to be fun the rest of the year. I’d like to thank Jan and her crew for the
wonderful brunch at Flag Raising. I'm really looking forward to the rest of
the year.
Bob and Janet hosted the fabulous dinner meeting this month, many thanks
to them and their crew. Always one of my favorite dinners.
Our Cruise captains, Tom and Dana, have put together a great cruise
schedule, hope to see many of you up at Doziers for Memorial Day.
Randy Strickland has put together a set of drawings for the renovation of
the original portion of the clubhouse and will hold a Town Hall meeting for
the membership to review and comment. Randy has put a lot of effort into researching the
requirements of the County, holding meetings with the Building Committee and developing several
plans as the design has developed. Please plan on attending the Town Hall to provide your
suggestions and thank Randy for his efforts.
Fair winds and following seas.

Racing News
Staggered Start Race, May 5th
The Staggered Start Race was canceled on Saturday, May 5th, due to lack
of wind. Our thanks to Mike Webb the sponsor of the Staggered Start
Race.
Upcoming: Admiral’s Cup, August 5th
The Admiral’s Cup is coming up on August 5th. We should have a good turn
out of SYC racers. Art Dister is the SYC sponsor for the Admiral’s Cup
race. The combination of the Admiral’s Cup race and the Summer Party
make for an active August first weekend.

SYC HISTORY QUIZ
The answers to the May History Quiz are: The first female SYC Commodore was Susan
Pettyjohn. The Club first acquired real estate in 1982. And the winner of the dinner
certificate for May was Michelle Calloway.
The questions for the June Quiz are:
1. Who suggested that stringing monofilament along the pier at a height of eight feet would
discourage seagulls from roosting on the pier?
2. Who constructed and donated the Club's signal cannon?
Write your name and answers on a piece of paper approximately 3 X 3 inches, place in the box
at the June dinner meeting, and the first name drawn with both correct answers will receive a
free dinner at a monthly dinner meeting. Only one entry is allowed per person.
Hint: The members area at the SYC website.
MAY DINNER MEETING
“The secret is in the sauce!” Janet and Bob Beilhart prepared and served
one of Seaford Yacht Club’s favorite meals with original recipes from Regina
and Helmut Walter. The marinated and grilled chicken served family style
with bowls of pasta and assorted breads with cheeses were a perfect
spring/summer menu. A variety of cakes were on the menu for dessert. Rick
Gay, Tom and Fran Butterfoss, Lillian Downs, Joan Edmonds, Cliff and Vicki
Collier, Carol Collier, Helmut and Regina Walter, Linda Blotter, Doris Smoker
and Winnie Feldhaus made up the crew for preparing and serving the meal
(and cleaning up). Beermeister Tom Feldhaus made sure the beer was on tap
and Donna Gilroy was in charge of reservations and money collection. Thanks
to the Beilharts for volunteering to host the May dinner and all of the SYC
members who helped out.
June Dinner Meeting
Jeanette and Mike Webb, Marti and David Coffield and Lillian Downs will
host the June dinner meeting. They will be serving baked salmon, baked
potato with sour cream, green beans with almonds, melon salad and dessert. Be sure to make
your reservations when the calling committee contacts you!

Monthly Dinner Co-Chairs
Housekeeping Corner:
This month in Housekeeping Corner I want to remind
everyone when preparing dinner meeting meals do not cut
food on the warmer trays. Cutting food on the trays leave
cut marks on the tray that could harbor bacteria. Please
use cutting boards for your food preparation.
Also, coffee and tea is bought by the dinner meeting host or social groups that use these items.
Coffee and tea are not purchased and stocked by housekeeping.
As of this writing, the icemaker in the small refrigerator is not working. However, repairs are
ongoing and hopefully the icemaker will be back in service soon.
We have bought cloth round tablecloths for use with our round tables. The cost of disposable
round tablecloths was getting very expensive. So, we’ll try cloth tablecloths. Dinner meeting
hosts can just take them home afterwards, run them through their washing machine and drier
and re-hang them in the chair/table closet.
Speaking of the chair/table closet, if anyone has an extra booster chair or two they would like to
donate, we could use a couple more. We store them in the chair/table closet to be used for our
youngest club members.
There are plastic storage containers in the pantry to store dry foods like crackers. Keeping them
in the tubs with lids will help keep the club free of rodents and insects that might be otherwise
attracted to the stored food.
Don’t forget, on the cork board in the kitchen is a form for putting wishes and needs for
housekeeping items. If I can’t get something, or delayed, I try to write a response under the
request.
Lastly, I want to thank everyone that helped at Spring Cleanup. And a special thanks to Alita
Small who took my place while I was on vacation.

Shake Down Cruise;
The SYC ‘s Shake Down cruise “rocked “at the Salt Ponds Marina Resort on the 28th and 29th of
April. We had 10 Boats participate (two were new members’ boats)! Mark Lucitt (Flotilla 63)
conducted inspections for our fleet. We had 31 SYC members turn out for our evening potluck.
We should really have called this event a smorgasbord. The quantity and quality of the food was
amazing! As usual for SYC we had a stiff headwind on our return, but all boats made it back safely.
Next Cruise is Memorial Day weekend Cruise to Dozier’s Marina in Deltaville. Stay tuned for
details and please sign up on our website for slip reservations and activities.
