IT IMPACTS YOUR FUTURE

• Many subjects you take in year 12 will have an exam

• They comprise 30% of your grade

• Some Stage 1 exams will go towards your grade

• All Exam grades will go on your report

• All exam grade may affect your subject choices in semester 2 and in your Stage 2 subject selections

• The year 11 exams are an opportunity for you to ‘preview’ what it’s like to sit an exam

• You can reflect on how you prepared to ensure you prepare better next time

• It is also an opportunity to get familiar with the rules associated with exams to ensure nothing goes wrong next year

THE KEY DETAILS

• Exam week is in week 8 (15th – 19th June)

• No classes will be scheduled during this time

• You only attend your exams that week

• You are welcome to attend school outside your exams, please sign in or sign out if you attend school before or after an exam

• All exams are in the hall EXCEPT:

• Art/Design/Technology – not an exam, just time to work on your products, held in art room

• Morning exams start at 9.00 (writing time starts 9.10)

• Afternoon exams start at 1.30pm (writing time starts at 1.40pm)

• 10Ex students doing Stage 1 subjects – attend your normal year 10 subjects except if you have an exam during that time

• Stage 1 students doing stage 2 subjects – stage 1 exams take priority, negotiate with your teachers if you are expected to attend your stage 2 classes (unless you have a stage 1 exam on)

CLASHES

An exam at 9am and another at 1.30pm on the same day is not a clash

If you have two exams on at the same time, Mr Naylor or Mr Nguyen will send you a daymap message telling you when your exams have been rescheduled to

You will sit your exam during another timeslot during exam week

BEFORE THE EXAMS

• What exams do I have? What times?

• What do you need for your exams? Get this stuff organised

• Calculators (spare batteries), pens, pencils, rulers, geoliners, notes?

• What will be in the exam? Talk to your teachers

• Some students without exams may be required to attend school during the exam week to complete school work

• Ensure you are in school uniform, as normal when you are at school

• Expect to help set up the hall

DURING THE EXAMS

1. Arrive at least 10 minutes before your exam start time (Over 30 minutes late - cannot enter the exam room)

2. Leave all other items (bags etc) in F3 – this room will be locked during the exams

3. Assemble in the foyer and in the F-Open area

4. Mr Naylor will call students by subject and tell you where to sit

5. You will need to have your notes and other items brought in to the exam room checked by the supervising teachers

6. Fill out your exam attendance slip

7. Reading time starts at 9.00am/10.00am or 1.30pm – this lasts for 10 minutes

8. Writing time starts after that

• Exams are on the desks – if there isn’t an exam on your desk you’re not sitting in the right spot!

• Special Provisions students should sit at the front of the hall and look for a coloured slip on the desk

• Some exams you will answer in the exam paper, some exams you will write in a script booklet

• Some exams have additional pages or resources for you to refer to

• All exams will have some note paper for you to use

AFTER THE EXAMS

Take your rubbish with you

Return items you borrowed during the exam:

Return single semester textbooks, novels etc. to library

Some exams may be continuing when you leave – be respectful to these students

RULES AND EXPECTATIONS

• No talking once inside the exam hall

• Follow instructions of supervising staff

• If you need to go to the toilet, inform a supervisor and fill in the sign out/in sheet

• You may be asked to wait until another student returns

• You are not permitted to leave if you finish early

• Notes:

• Usually one A4 page, double-sided and hand written

• Cannot be photocopied or two pages stuck together

• Electronic devices are not permitted

• Leave them in your bag, locked in F3 or surrender them to the supervisors for the duration of the exam

• Must be switched off and not in your possession during the exams.

• This includes:

• Smart watches

• Electronic dictionaries (printed ones will be available)

• Calculators (unless permitted)

• Phones

• Fitness trackers

WHAT SHOULD I DO WHEN THINGS

GO WRONG?

Examples:Lateness outside your controlIllness or injury severe enough to prevent you attending the exam

Contact the school

If it is due to illness, go to the doctor and get a doctor’s certificate

If it is an acceptable reason the school may:

Permit you to sit the exam with some additional timeRe-schedule the exam to another day (this does not happen in Stage 2 Exams)Provide you with special provisions

SPECIAL PROVISIONS

• There are a variety of reasons why you may not be disadvantaged in completing exams to the ability of an average student

• Special provisions are available to those students. This could be:• Extra time

• Ability to have rest breaks

• Ability to use a computer to type your answers rather than hand-write them

• How do I get them?• Organise an appointment with your LCL

• Usually for a short term or long term medical condition

• E.g.:

• Short term (Broken arm)

• Long term (Dyslexia)
