Overview of Semester 2
Type of BriefI find I respond quicker to tight briefs as some of the decisions have already been made. However I believe I respond more creatively to open briefs, and find these most enjoyable.
Integral ElementsThe key integral elements within my designs would be typography and colour. I feel alot of my work features these elements heavily, and feel most confortable working with them. I am most experimental and playful with layouts when using type as a main feature.
SuccessMy strengths line in the areas of typography and editorial. I am comfortable working in these areas and feel they are more successful as I am more confident in my ability in these areas. I allow myself more creative freedom to experiment when working with the above.
ProblemsThe main versions I have encountered this semester have been in relation to version control of my files. Havinig CS4 at home and CS5 in the studio, meant I often had to convert files to IDMLs, and I have found that when sorted in date order, it does not always update the modification date when it has been converted. I have over come this by converting files into a seperate folder, and updating at the end of every day. PersonalityI find I can enjoy most aspects of design, and would therefore be interested in most creative areas. I enjoy editorial and branding projects the most, as I feel they usually offer the most freedom and room for creativity. My portfolio may be lacking slightly on the digital interface side, as I am not quite as confident in this area as I would like to be. However, I am currently working on an iphone app interface for an app that has already been approved by apple and will be avaliable from the app store, so I will soon be able to add that project to my portfolio.

Bugs bunny and his looney tuneson a million tvs on a million afternoons, still plays the mad accordion.Stretch a cage around the sun, with the words of the mad accordion.Play me play me till I breakOr the world is broken and I belong, Play me till each word is spokenAnd each spoken word breaks into song.
Silver fish, like lightning,Play the mad accordion.Nightjars in the shadows, play the mad accordion. The momentum in the breaking wavesplays the mad accordion. The patients in their hospital beds, walk through the trapdoors in their heads to play the mad accordion.
Trade each note for the next note, there are only these, there are no moreand each note that’s gone leaves nothing behind, no stepping stones back to the shore.Squeeze the mad squeezebox, squeeze diamonds to dust,or stretch air into insubstantial chains of melody,a living entity that still, through stillness, leads you on...

LogoThe logo has been designed to allow the letterforms of the company name ‘La’al Marra’ to be perforated. This allows a small amount of light to be seen through these gaps, a spin on ‘your name in lights’ using natural light as the source.
StationeryLetterhead and compliment slip have been designed to have a block colour reverse. The business card is slightly different in that it is based on an old fashioned style theatre ticket, complete with perforated edge, allowing the telephone number to be torn of and kept.
TypefacesThe identity created uses fonts from two typefaces throughout. Diner creates the logo and web elements, while fonts from the Grotesque typeface are used on the stationery set, publications, flyers and so on for easier ledgibility.

The BriefTo design a Corporate Identity for the Cumbrian based Production
Company, La’al Marra.
Colour SchemeTwo colours were selected to comprise the identity. A green pantone was selected to link back to the Cumbrian theme, while a purple was selected to provide a theatrical refrence. These were then explored further creating a triad of 3 tints each. The colours are complimentary, allowing the stationery set to be mix and matched.

The BriefTo design a Corporate Identity for the Cumbrian based Production
Company, La’al Marra.
WebsiteThe owner of this company works to a very tight schedule, so it was important to come up with a website layout that could be quickly and easily edited when required. Using a basic grid structure, a simple but effective layout was produced which is still engaging, yet simple enough to allow edits and uploads to be achieved successfully. This allows the website to be constantly up to date with ever changing information such as tour dates and show timetables.
