Buying on margin and speculation created a false bubble (high level) for prices in the stock

market which eventually burst.AND

Banks were heavily invested in the stock market and lost everything in the stock market crash. Thousands

of bank accounts were lost.AND

reopened those that passed inspection. The FDIC insured

individual accounts so people could trust banks again.

Farmers lost their farms when the overproduction of farm goods caused them to lose

The New Deal helped with the FSA, which loaned money to tenant farmers to buy their

Many schools closed and parents couldn’t pay for their

older children. Also many couldn’t afford to go to college

Workers were often not allowed to unionize or punished if they did.

They also had long hours, low pay, and hazardous conditions.

ANDThe Wagner Act allowed unions to

unionize while the Fair Labor Standards Act set a 40 hour work

week, minimum wage, and protected minors from hazardous conditions.
