It is with great pleasure that I present to you another “Master Piece”. In this is case, two Master Pieces; this month I have decided to do something that Elle-ments have never done before, publish two magazines in one month.
The support that we have been getting over the past year and the few months that have passed, have been great. The issues grow as the month progresses; I anticipated getting a large amount of amazing submissions for the September Issue, with that in mind two editions would be perfect. To my surprise, you guys didnt disappoint us at all. We recieved alot of awesome submissions, thus pack-ing both editions.
I am pleased to present to you the Beauty Edition of Ellements Magazine. “A Book of Pure Beauty.” I am very pleased by the beauty pieces that was submitted, with that we were able to compile a publication that will stand out among the best fashion and beauty publications that will be published this month in the United States of America and around the world. I want to quickly say thanks to all the contributors!!! As usual, you rock!!!!!!!!!!! ENJOY!

MakeupNotes
Is there really an extreme edge to beauty and makeup artistry? Are you always pushing the artistic boundaries in your visions? In my experience as a photographer who is meticulous over every spill of light, I have always viewed the makeup artists’ work as an experience similar to a person who is swimming across a lake with a knife in their mouth but without making a single wave. You have to be edgy, provocative, artistic yet perfect, always pushing the limits, and yet posses the craftsmanship and a steady balance of knowing that beauty can also exist in simplicity.... without making a wave.
The editorial idea behind Elemental Magic initially started as making a 4-look beauty shoot. Neutral tones and the ethereal moods of WIND, eclectic style and golden tones of EARTH, provocative, daring and lustful colours of FIRE, and finally the fluid blue topaz tones, the wet looks of WATER.
In executing the original idea, I also wanted to celebrate “the process” itself, not just the end results; the spirit of teamwork we all rely so heavily in our photo-shoots and the actual process of climbing that mountain. Elemental Magic is the story of that magic. The editorial is not all
really just about the photographer’s work or retouch-ing techniques or a specific way that the makeup is applied, the shock and wow factor, etc. But this is where a photographer tells a beauty story. Hence enter the Video! The video is specifically centered on the theme ELEMENTAL MAGIC and it is a mélange of behind the scenes as well as the beauty shoot seen through the eyes of a fashion portraiture photographer. It celebrates the process that is a total sum of “behind the scenes,” planning, pre and post, and the shoot itself. It celebrates by giving homage to the work of all team members. It is really a tribute to all makeup artists, models, and stylists.
We had many memorable moments during the shoot. From the WIND segment where I shot the model Danika Kinnear suspended horizontally while tilting the frame with the fan being held by the MUA, Jonah Fheonix kneeling on top of her; to the idea of having the model enjoy rubbing and completely destroying the makeup for each look for the video component (those segments were shot on high frame rate on my DSLR and played back in reverse and in slow motion). The beginning was the end! Magic!
earth, wind, fire, water!!
