This is the state flag of Hawaii.

The eight red, white and blue stripes stand for the eight main islands of Hawaii.

The Union Jack in the top left corner represents Hawaii’s long relationship with the British government.

There are really only two seasons in Hawaii:

Summer (from May to October); and

Winter (from November to April).

There is sometimes a lot of rain in the winter, but the temperature is

still quite hot!!

To make your own lei:Cut out flower shapes using card, tissue paper or crepe paper. Punch a hole in the centre of each flower shape. Cut drinking straws into short lengths.Thread the flowers and the straws onto a piece of string long enough to fit over a person’s head. Tie the string at both ends to make a necklace.Be as creative as you wish. Use lots of bright colours!!

A lei is a garland of flowers which is worn around the neck. It is given to someone as a sign of affection or just to say 'aloha!'

To make your own grass skirt:Take a large piece of construction paper (any colour!). Cut strips starting at the bottom, but do not cut all the way to the top.Fold over the top of the paper to make it stronger. Use velcro to join the skirt together.

Grass skirts are worn in Hawaiiwhen they do their traditional Hula dancing!
