    SMART 2010 is a computer program that analyzes a customers resume for skills and work experience.Using that data the computer can establish matches with current jobs throughout the state. The system thenrecommends to the client by means of e-mail a number of job matches based on the likelihood that the individuawill follow the same career path.

    Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)

    Seneca County Workforce Development is seeking volunteers to staff our VITA site for the upcoming taseason. Prior tax preparation experience, though helpful, is not necessary. Volunteer Tax Assistors receive freinstruction and all training and certification materials necessary to prepare basic income tax returns. Training ancertification generally is conducted in December and the following January. For further information, please caSeneca County Workforce Development at 315.539.1905.

    VITA is a program that offers free tax preparation to Seneca County residents whose income does not exceed$49,000.00. This program consists of basic income tax returns including Form 1040 EZ or Form 1040A Federaltax returns and basic New York State returns, assisting families in receiving any special credits and deductionsthat they are entitled to.     Labor Department Warns New Yorkers About Online Employment Scams

    Albany, NY (September 12, 2010) - Today State Labor Commissioner Colleen C. Gardner alerted all NewYorkers on the growing number of online employment scam promising high salaries for very little work. Thesesolicitations are appearing on social media pages like Facebook and e-mail in boxes designed to lure desperatejob seekers. The Labor Department was notified of this scam by several job seekers who use the LaborDepartment's Facebook page.

    "In these difficult times, with so many New Yorkers desperately seeking employment, the idea of thesepredators targeting our vulnerable citizens is appalling," said Labor Commissioner Colleen C. Gardner. "Thesejobs' are not endorsed by the Department of Labor. If you want real jobs, we have them for you. I encourage alunemployed New Yorkers to use our new Job Bank and visit a local One-Stop Career Center."
