Message from the Sendera Board of Directors
By Eric Steen, President Sendera Owners Association It is about time for the Sendera Annual meeting of the Members. Please keep an eye out in your mail for the Sendera Annual Meeting Packet. The packet will have details about the meeting as well as a proxy form. At the meeting we will go over the financials for the association, get updates from Real Manage and our committees, discuss issues in the community, and elect two directors to the Board. In order for the election to take place we will need a quorum of owners, so please plan on attending. If you are unable to attend please fill out a proxy and give it to someone who is attending, or a director. If you are interested in serving on the Board of Directors, or have any issues you would like discussed at the Annual Meeting, please contact Kaye Bayes with Real Manage at 306-9352 or via e-mail at [email protected]. Several years ago Sendera joined an organization of communities called the Oak Hill Association of Neighborhoods (OHAN). OHAN is a group of representatives from the Oak Hill and surrounding area neighborhoods who meet the second Wednesday of each month at the ACC Pinnacle campus to review proposed changes to the Oak Hill Area and offer input to those proposing the changes. By being a member of OHAN, Sendera is more visible to government leaders, law enforcement and developers. This gives us a bigger voice when dealing with issues. Additionally, OHAN is alerted to upcoming changes before the public as government leaders and developers seek OHAN’s advice on their proposals. OHAN is a wonderful group for Sendera to be associated with, and I am pleased to announce that Sendera now has a representative on the OHAN board. I was elected to the OHAN board for a 2-year term that started January 2008. I look forward to working with OHAN to make our community even better. If you would like more info on OHAN please visit their website at: http://www.ohan.org/ The Board did not meet in December, and the January meeting was held after the cutoff for the newsletter. Check the website (www.senderahoa.com) for meeting minutes.

Tips from A.P.D. to fight crime
Leave outdoor lights on all night or install a motion detector.Trim trees and shrubs so as not to block visibility of windows and doors from the street.Do not leave belongings in vehicles (if you must, make sure they are not in sight but locked in the trunk).Lock vehicles.Close garage doors when not in there even if you are home.As for solicitors….you do not have to open the door. Don’t feel you are being rude. However, do let them know you are home by saying not interested, please send info through mail, etc. Burglars generally knock and/or ring bell to make sure no one is home before breaking in, so let them know you are home – then keep an eye out when the "solicitor" goes to your neighbor’s house, making sure they do not go to BACK DOOR.

Since just before the first of the year, members of the Security Committee have spent late night hours watching over the safety of our neighborhood. If you have not been receiving the emails on the newly launched patrol, you’ve missed some interesting information. First there was training by the Austin Police Department. Then the patrol was outfitted with a flashing light, bullhorn and spotlight. The days and hours of patrol were varied so they wouldn’t become predictable. Most shifts pass quietly but then there are nights like one Friday in December when the patrol spotted a car that looked out of place and stopped a few houses past it. The driver immediately took off at a high rate of speed so we’ll never know what they were up to, if anything. But we do know that they are aware someone is watching in Sendera. Another message was passed that a resident’s wallet had been stolen at the HEB at Slaughter and Manchaca. Other residents responded that they knew of people who had the same experience at the same store. From the information provided by APD, it appears there is an organized group working from grocery stores. They pick a target, provide a distraction (like asking for help finding an item) and lift the purse or wallet out of the shopping basket. Keep your eyes/hands on your purse at all times when shopping. A Security Committee member looked at all of the police reports filed in Sendera from June 15 to December 18, 2007. For a startling look at some of the statistics, see the list online here: http://www.kencemedia.org/www.peelinc.com/newsletters/0802SN_neigh_watch.pdf
