Enjoy friends and fun at the JFCS Senior Center • March 2015 Senior Center Newsletter BRAND NEW THIS MONTH News at the Senior Center February was an exciting and engaging month for members at the Senior Center. We are excited about the upcoming year. This month we had some more fun with Lunch and More entertainment: Tamiami Sound Women’s Quartet, East Naples Community Band and Naples Klezmer Revival Band had members dancing. A special Centennial Celebration for Sylvia Berg with Dottie Jackson singing songs of the decades too! The Center for Critical Thinking once again stimulated great discussion with “The Societal Network. Good or Evil?” Members, volunteers and staff…thank you for making this the best place to be in Naples! February was an exciting and engaging month for members at the Senior Center. We are excited about the upcoming year. Happy Hour Chair Yoga with Instructor Dede – Join us every Tuesday from 3-4pm for stretching, breathing, balance and MORE! Chair Yoga VIDEO – Every Monday & Friday from 12:15 – 12:45pm to keep the stretching, breathing and balance going! Tai Chi Classes will be on Tuesday(s) from 1–2:30pm for intermediate level and Friday(s) 9:30-10:30am for beginner level.

Classes are for beginners and those wanting a refresher course. Class size is limited to 4 participants & will repeat every 3 weeks. Advanced registration required. Computer Assistance is still available Wednesday(s) 1:30-3pm and Friday(s) 10:30-11:30am. Please sign up in advance in Copilot. No Need to Pack Your Bags - We’re bringing the world to you through Travelogue with Jim Sernovitz. We will be traveling with Jim to Mediterranean Magic on Wednesday, March 4th from 1:15 to 2:15 and The Land of the Golden Triangle on Wednesday, April 1st from 1:15 to 2:15. ART CLASSES Portrait drawing with artist Jose Maria Castillo for the month of March. His theme: “Anyone can learn to draw a head.” Members are welcome to attend any or all of the sessions. Each week, he’ll recap session from previous week. Jose Maria Castillo is a portrait artist and teacher. Portraiture is Castillo’s life-long passion. He studied at the National School of Fine Arts in Lima, Peru and also studied at Parsons, the School of Visual Arts, Society of Illustrators, Fashion Institute of Technology & the Art Students League in New York. LIT WITS The members of the book club will meet to discuss The Red Tent, author Anita Diamant, and select next month’s book to read. Listen in on the discussion if you haven’t read the book, and be there to cast your vote for April’s book. Thursday, March 12th 2-3:30pm Join us for Bridge, Mah Jongg and other card games every Friday afternoon from 1-3:30pm. Beginners to advanced players are welcome. Be sure to sign-up on Copilot in advance. It will help us put together games. MONDAY MOVIE MATINEE 1-3pm. Come for the movie, the friendship and the popcorn! March 2nd: Gentlemen Prefer Blondes: Marilyn Monroe, Tommy Noonan & Jane Russell star in this classic romantic comedy. March 9th: The Fuzzy Pink Nightgown: Two men (Ralph Meeker, Keenan Wynn) kidnap a Hollywood actress (Jane Russell), who refuses to let them back out of it. Initial Release: 1957 March 16th: All About Eve: Backstage story revolving around aspiring actress Eve Harrington. Tattered and forlorn, Eve shows up in the dressing room of Broadway mega-star Margo Channing, telling a melancholy life story to Margo and her friends. Margo takes Eve under her wing, and it appears that Eve is a conniver that uses Margo. March 23rd: On Golden Pond: Cantankerous retiree Norman Thayer (Henry Fonda) and his conciliatory wife, Ethel (Katherine Hepburn), spend summers at their New England vacation home on the shores of Golden Pond. This year, their adult daughter, Chelsea (Jane Fonda), visits with her new fiancée and his teenage son, Billy (Doug KcKeon) on their way to Europe.
