Celebrate your New Year’s Eve early with an extended Lunch and More. A fun fashion show, a talent show featuring our talented members and a sing along will be part of the festivities. If you would like to be part of the talent show see Helen Waite, Senior Center Manager. Jim Sernovitz is back with another great travelogue. This month travels are to Peru & The Sacred Mountain Of The Incas. Peru is a land of contrasts with bustling modern cities and ancient towns dating from the days of the Incas. Come with us as we journey through this amazing land stopping in both Lima, the present capital, and Cusco, the capital of the Inca Empire, on our way to Machu Picchu, the Lost City of the Incas. December 10 th 1:30-2:30 Tai Chi S c h e d u l e C h a n g e For December – Classes will be on Friday, December 5th, 12th and 19th from 9:30-10:30am. Classes will resume twice a week in January 2015. Thank you Grace, our fabulous Tai Chi instructor! Beginners’ Spanish classes are on hold through December. Classes will resume in the New Year when our wonderful professor returns from the North. Nos vemos en el nuevo año! SHINE (Medicare) has new hours – 9:30 – 11:30am on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday. 2nd Floor Open enrollment for Medicare ends December 7 th . ELECTRONICS HOTLINE. Ever been frustrated using the computer or your smart phone and wished you could call someone to ask a question. If you call our ELECTRONICS HOTLINE 239-325-4444 one of our tech savvy volunteers will call you back. If you’re lucky, it’s a quick fix that they can answer a question over the phone or they will make an appointment to meet you at the Senior Center for private tutoring. You can’t ask for better service. TIME FLIES WHEN YOU’RE HAVING FUN…. We are coming up on our one year anniversary in January of the JFCS Senior Center. Thank you for joining us, and telling your friends and neighbors about us. This also means for some of our members, its renewal time for your memberships. We will be sending out reminders in the mail for your convenience or see Helen Waite, Senior Center Manager. The cost for membership will remain at $15 for the year. November was an exciting month at the Senior Center. Lunch and More featured life-saving information on identifying and reporting Elder Abuse, great entertainment with folk music guitarist, Recreation Tappers, and fun challenging trivia games. Senior Center members also attended the final two series of “Let’s Talk About Art” seminars led by very talented docents from Artis Naples’ Patty and Jay Baker Museum. Due to its success we will be looking at future seminars. Great discussion took place with the Center for Critical Thinking and the discussion continued with the showing of the Emmy Winning Documentary on Gettysburg. Members received excellent information from Collier County Sheriff’s Office regarding Identification Theft & Fraud Protection. And finally, Marc Simon, our own Writers’ Workshop volunteer leader won the Sugden Theater’s annual contest for original short plays by Southwest Florida playwrights. Congratulations Marc!

UPDATES ON EXISTING ACTIVITIES FOR DECEMBER
ART CLASSES Drawing the Human Figure: Class members will draw the human figure with fellow students as models to produce gesture drawings, using pencils and markers. A fun, interactive class. December 1st 10am-12pm Printmaking: Working on a sheet of plexi glass, students paint designs with brushes and water soluble printing inks. Then a dampened sheet of white print paper is placed on top of the plexi. Using a palm press (rolling pin or brayers can be substituted), the students will pull a colorful print. We call the process “birthing” a print. The prints can also be color-enhanced with pastels. December 8th 10am-12pm Pen-and-ink landscape drawings: Students will create landscape drawings based on photographs, using pen and ink. Photographs will be supplied by the instructor; however, students are welcome to bring their own photos as well. There will be a demonstration prior to the practical application. December 15th 10am-12pm Seashell Still Life: Learn some basics that show you how to draw, including the concepts of line, value, and form. Turn your seashell drawings into mini-paintings or note card originals. This class is open to all levels of ability, and materials are provided. December 22nd 10am-12pm Gratitude Bracelets (Jewelry): Enjoy the process of creating an original piece of jewelry, and improve someone’s life! This class will demonstrate how to assemble a combination of tubes and beads on stretchable jewelers’ wire to make an adjustable bracelet. Take home a wearable work of art complete with “happiness” directions. Supplies will be provided, but you may also bring beads to personalize your work. December 29th 10am-12pm LIT WITS The members of the book club will meet to discuss Rules of Civility, author Amor Towles and select next month’s book to read. Listen in on the discussion if you haven’t read the book, and be there to cast your vote for January’s book. Thursday, December 11th 2-3:30pm MONDAY MOVIE MATINEE - Every Monday, 1-3pm.
