WHO?I grew up in Fenton, MI, after graduation I moved to Ypsilanti. I started going to school at Eastern Michigan University majoring in Forensic Psychiatry, but shortly after entering into the program I decided that it wasn’t for me. The thing that got me interested in photography to begin with, was the art show that my high school held every year. I submitted a couple pieces of work and was awarded 2nd place in the photography category. When I switched to Washtenaw Community College I also switched majors to Photographic Technology. My favorite things to photograph are newborns, seniors and weddings. I love capturing people’s memories and preserving them for a lifetime. Nothing in life is certain, but knowing that you have your special moments documented gives everyone a piece of mind.

When I’m not out photographing, I love playing and being involved in roller derby. It’s the thrill of the sport, the action, and of course, the amazing photo opportunities! I also love volunteering whether it be for an animal rescue or cancer patients. When I’m not working, you can find me at home playing with my two dogs Niko and Piglet. Or I’m volunteering with a derby team somewhere. I’ve been doing photography for 8 years and have had a business for 4 years. My three favorite non-profit charities are the American Cancer Society (more specifically Relay for Life), Shoots for a Cure and Hello Bully. I’ve done Relay for Life going on my 3 years in a row now and I love everything about it! Cancer runs in my family and I have seen the devastation that it can cause, so I want to help out as much as I can while I’m young and healthy. That’s why I also participate in Shoots for a Cure. It’s a group of volunteer photographers that does portrait sessions for cancer patients and their families. Like I mentioned before, there’s no guarantees in life so it’s important to preserve those memories while you still can. The other charity I love is Hello Bully, a pit bull rescue out of Pittsburgh, PA. They are an amazing group of volunteers that go above and beyond to help out pit bulls in need and advocate for the breed. As the owner of one pit bull (I’ve fostered a couple in the past), I know that they aren’t the stereotype the media would like you to believe. Piglet is my momma’s boy and wants nothing more than to be curled up in my lap (all 70 lbs of him) and pass out. It would be absolutely impossible for me to give up Sour Cream & Onion chips, they are just WAY too good! I would want to be remembered as the person that would do anything for a friend. I’m a very giving person, almost to a fault, but I would give the people I love the world if I could.

NOW TRENDING | #YOUNatalie Mae Photography wants to give you senior portraits that everyone will be talking about. We have teamed up with an incredibly talented hair and makeup artist to give you a day of pampering and being treated like the celebrity you are. During your portrait consultation we will discuss hair, makeup, and wardrobe choices to ensure that you look like you just stepped off the red carpet for your senior portraits.

On the day of the session, we will begin in the studio with hair and makeup (if applicable), once that is finished we will take your yearbook portrait. From there we will head out on location to photograph the rest of your images.

MAXIMIZE YOUR POTENTIALWe know that each of our seniors come with their own personalities and we want to do everything we can to have those shine through in the images; so here are some tips to help get you started.

Clothes. There is no such thing as too many outfits! That’s why we don’t limit the number of choices you bring, but most likely we will not photograph you in every outfit. We will help you choose the best ones for your session, so bring more than you’ll think you’ll wear.

Also, bring a variety of colors. Even if pink is your favorite color, don’t bring five pink outfits. Another good thing to remember is to vary the style of clothing, all one look (like tanks) gets boring. Vary the dress level; bring some dressy, some casual, and some in between outfits.

Avoid logos & writing. Clothing that has words or logos on it, except for your own school logos or varsity jacket, should be avoided. They will draw attention away from your gorgeous face!

Wrinkles. Group your outfits together on hangers. It is amazing how many people come with clothes stuffed in bags and wonder why

they’re wrinkled. Make sure your clothes are ironed. Retouching will not remove wrinkles.

Stuff. We love your stuff! Feel free to bring instruments, sports items, uniforms, trophies, etc... Let us know during your consultation what you are bringing so we can be prepared.

Blemishes. Every senior has them, no big deal! We guarantee that you are not the only one we’ve ever photographed. We want you to look your best, therefore all Natalie Mae Photography portraits are retouched for blemishes, scars, and scratches at no additional charge. Removal of braces will be charged an additional $50.

Glasses. If you wear glasses you can still get portraits! To avoid any light flare in your lenses, it is not a bad idea to have the lenses removed before your session, however this is not required. Call your eye center to request your lenses be removed and replaced after. It is my experience that most places will remove and replace your lenses for free if you tell them it is for your senior portrait session.

If removing them is not an option, no need to fret! We’ve got ways to make sure that there isn’t any glare on your glasses.

Hairstyles. Avoid changing your hairstyle or cutting your hair right before your session. It is best to have your hair trimmed at least two to three weeks in advance. Same goes for coloring your hair, the last thing we want is hair dye on your skin as that is not covered in our retouching services.

Tanning. Do not over tan or spray tan. Skin that is leathery, burnt, or orange will result in you being unhappy with the finished product.

Moms. Give mom what she wants. The best thing to do is compromise. Remember, it is okay to do one or two outfits mom will like, then we can do the stuff you like!

THE FINISHING TOUCHESLook in the mirror. If it looks baggy or too tight, it will look the same or worse in a photograph. If you look in the mirror and are not happy with the way an outfit looks, it will not be any better at the studio. Make sure your clothing flatters you. If you feel confident when you wear a certain outfit, you will project that and it will definitely show in your images.

Undergarments. We know it’s not something we all like to talk about, but they’re just as important as the clothes you wear over them. Please bring the proper foundation wear with each outfit. Flesh colored is always the best, but if you are wearing a thin white top, bring white undergarments. With today’s thin fabrics and small tops, you may want to carefully select what you’re putting underneath so they do not show or give unsightly lines.

Nails show. If they have all the paint chipped off, it will show! Many casual shots are done barefoot, so don’t forget those toes either. Avoid bright neon color polish. Natural or basic colors work the best.

Hats and headbands. Please do not wear it to the studio. If you have an outfit that you would like to wear a hat with we will save it until the end, so please plan accordingly.

THE DIVA TREATMENTSo why choose a Collection with a makeover? Professional hair and makeup looks like just that in images—professional: polished, deliberate, styled and properly executed for portraiture. Subtle shading and contouring, photo appropriate foundation and cleanly applied makeup makes you look like your best version of yourself on the camera. Features pop and radiance shines through. Professionally applied makeup will also last throughout your entire portrait session, so there’s no need for constant worry about the way your makeup looks.

Senior portrait makeup should be the ultimate expression of YOU. We feel strongly that unless you are doing a crazy, off the wall portrait session and that is truly your personality, or you wear a signature, strong makeup look in their everyday life — you should look like the best version of yourself on your portrait day. For most seniors, that means a more “pumped” up “natural” version of your everyday look. We try to stick to neutral colors and makeup techniques that enhance a senior’s innate features, making her look like her most radiant, beautiful version of herself.
