To ensure a safe and welcoming space, we ask participants, facilitators and guest presenters to observe our Conduct Policy and Group Etiquette:
To be respectful towards all staff, volunteers, participants and tele-phone operators (including our
conference call provider).
To engage in appropriate subject matters and language.
To allow everyone to contribute by not dominating the conversations.
To respect all group members and their opinions, even if they differ from your own.
To create an inclusive environment that honours people of all cultures,
traditions, faiths, genders, sexual orientation, abilities, and life experiences. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this policy, or have an issue with another participant or facilitator, please contact SCWW.

Respectful Conduct Policy Tips on Having a Successful Phone Call
BE ON TIME: In order for our programs and services to run smoothly we ask that you call yourself into your scheduled program on time. If we call you into the program, please be ready for our call. LET THE FACILITATOR LEAD: To reduce confusion on the phone it is important to let the facilitator or guest speaker guide the conversation or activity. USE THE ME/NOT ME RULE: Remember to give everyone a chance to speak. This includes making sure to not talk over or disrupt someone while they are speaking. This also includes being mindful that every time you comment on something, it might not be giving space for someone else, or allowing the program to continue smoothly.
BE MINDFUL: Be mindful that everyone has a story, a back-ground, and a different way of looking at the world, and/or different communication styles. REDUCE BACKGROUND NOISE: Plan to be in a location with reduced back-ground noise. Turn off any thing that might make noise (televisions or radios), also consider pets. Be aware that the facilitator may mute your line if there is too much back-ground noise.

clouds of war were gathering. Ottawa was not immune from these trends. Join us for this
interesting presentation to hear James Powell talk about the fight against anti-Semitism in
Ottawa with L’Affaire Tissot, the Eastview Birth Control Trial, and the 1939 Royal Visit that

Cryin’ Time in Classic Country Music
Country music is well known for its plaintive and sometimes amusing descriptions of the many varieties of failed relationships, including: heartfelt agony - "I Fall to Pieces," (Patsy Cline); bitterness - "Your Cheatin' Heart (Will Tell on You)," (Hank Williams); infidelities - "Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?” (Shania Twain); humour - "She Got the Goldmine, I Got the Shaft," (Jerry Reed). This presentation takes a brief survey of love re-lationships gone wrong in classic performances of Country music from the 1920's to the 1980's.

Going to Graceland: Revisiting the Music of Elvis Presley
Elvis Presley bought the Graceland Mansion on the outskirts of Memphis, Tennessee, in 1957, when he was 22 years old, and he died there, 43 years ago, on August 16, 1977. The Graceland estate was opened to the public in 1982, and it has become the second most-visited house in the U.S. (after the White House) with over 650,000 visitors a year. When Paul Simon did the tour in 1985, he felt unexpectedly overcome by emotion when he came upon Elvis' gravesite in the Meditation Garden and read his epitaph:
“He had a God-given talent that he shared with the world. And without a doubt, he became most widely acclaimed, capturing hearts of young and old alike”.
