Merry Christmas from your humble servant of the Lord, Fr. Colman N. Mruma
Merry Christmas What a special and sacred season. Christmas wishes and music, the Christmas mood is already in the air. We have four weeks of Advent, and this year, twenty four hours after the Forth Sunday, we have Christmas Eve. I extend to all of you, Christmas greetings and best wishes for the
New Year 2019. This is all about the miracle of Christmas, the birth of the Messiah. This is about the Son of God, the Universal Saviour, proclaimed, not in Rome by the emperor, or in the governor’s mansion, or from the palace of Herod or from the suites of Annas and Caiaphas the high priests. He is proclaimed not by the coolest and most charismatic pastor. Not in the marble-walled temples, with gold up at the dome, not amidst the hottest music from a wonderful choir, not with the most sophisticated and -the flashiest technology in the sanctuary.. but by the lips of a weird prophet in the wilderness, probably the most courageous of all the prophets. He himself the King of the universe, the Son of God, does not live in the royal palace, but lives in an earthy, raw, little hut in Nazareth, and he comes to us in all sorts of human conditions and meets us everywhere. With him, the order of life as we have set it, is reversed...Greatness means stooping down and serving others and even washing their soiled feet. We are preparing as John calls us, ‘to prepare the way of the
lord, to make his paths straight’ Lk. 3:4 Like I reflected on the Second Sunday of Advent, this is a time that we cannot just be satisfied with planning the Christmas parties, or the shopping with the 25% offs, or buy two and get one free. At this time we cannot be satisfied with the beautiful decorations at the town center, and the lights on the streets, if there is darkness in our hearts, and on the Christmas tree at the corner. It is not about the cards we send and the turkeys we stuff and carve........
It is about the COMING of Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God.
We cannot leave him out in the cold (and it really gets cold out there at this time of the year) and go in to celebrate Christmas with lavish foods, and wines and desserts. Let’s open the door for him by bringing in the peace that we are given, the peace that will mend broken hearts; the peace that is contagious and can be shared with one another in forgiveness, kindness and charity. May the birthday of Christ sow seeds of peace in all our hearts… May the birthday of Christ renew hope in all our struggles...May the birthday of Christ bring joy to each one of us...
