I remember when… “We would go to church and then we came home and found a nice dish with nuts and fruit and our tree trimmed.” -Hazel Tonne
“Our Christmas tree had candles on it. One year they caught fire and burned up the lace curtains. My mother cried, and cried and cried.” -Pauline Smith “I worked for the telephone company when I was 16 years old. My mother and father were ill and we were very poor. The telephone company sent a tree to our house and people came by to decorate it. They also brought baskets of food. It was a beautiful Christmas.”- Gazella Guth “My mom and dad cooked an Italian traditional Christmas Eve dinner. It consisted of seven kids of fish and Italian cookies and my mom and dad would sing Italian songs afterwards.” -Donna Karr “My father would throw peas around the room on Christmas and New Years Day for good luck as that was a Slovak custom.” -Mary Whitney “My father bought a tree at the courthouse for five pennies. We strung round cookies on a ribbon to decorate it, and my brothers snuck own Christmas morning and stole the cookies off the tree.” -Catherine Heidt, 94 -years- old “I remember the teddy bear that I got when I was five years old. It has been passed down through the gen-erations for 79 years. One of my niece’s children has it now.” -Mildred Gimmy What are some of your favorite holiday memories?

word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of
caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.”

A Winter Dream Richard Paul Evans
Joseph Jacobsen is the twelfth (and favorite) child amongst thirteen siblings working for
their father’s advertisement company in Colorado. Underneath the seemingly perfect family, extreme jealousy towards Joseph runs deep, eventually ruining his relationship with
his family, work, and soon-to-be wife. Without any other options, Joseph moves to
Chicago in search of a new life, and gets hired and works his way up the ladder in an advertising company. He soon meets April,
with a secret of her own, and ultimately must face his own past before any promises of the
future.
