October 9: First MTU Meeting at

James Madison U., Nature Retreats

Our October meeting featured Chad Rowe and

guide Jonathan of Nature Retreats, presented on the left

by new MTU President Bill Cartwright. They pre-

sented their new concept in providing fishing and hunt-

ing retreats worldwise with luxury accommodations in

stunning wilderness locations. They showed their first American retreat, South Fork Lodge on the South Fork of

the Snake River, super dryfly fishing and a stronghold for cutthroat trout. The highlight was their second US re-

treat, Virginia Hot Springs on the upper Jackson River. The lodging is on Meadow Lane Lodge, with expanded

facilities and improvements to the stream. It is just downstream of the Hidden Valley area of the GW National

Forest. Thanks to Graham Simmerman for negotiating a trip for two for two days to this retreat. 20 members at-

tending participated in a fly box raffle, which garnered proceeds of more than $2 per fly to MTU.

[email protected]. or call 432-0607.

Hope to see you all and keep a tight line, Bill Cartwright.

Editor:

Bill sent a field test story; he has bought a Monomaster tool to place the leader waste in, instead of his car

trunk at the end of FWAM trips. He gives it an unreserved endorsement!

Bill also noted that Mark Taylor wrote an in-depth review of the Jackson River trespass case settled in favor of

Rivers Edge against Coggenshill and Crawford; the review is online, google Roanoke Times.

Reminder: Mossy Creek Open House comes up Saturday, November 3. They are featuring Tim Borski,

renowned artist and saltwater flytier!
