A member of our congregation, Dan Greg (pictured), is aLife Rank Boy Scout with Troop 101 out of Darien. Dan'sfather, Mark, has been involved with repair work at St.Matthew Lutheran Church in the Pilsenneighborhood in Chicago for the past several years.Dan would like to do his Eagle Scout project at St.Matthew. He wants to "enhance the appearance of thecommunity center to help enrich the community and thosewho wish to walk through those doors." Pastor Julio Lozahas approved the work subject to Dan obtaining funding forthe project. The cost for the materials will be about1,250.00. This is a great Eagle Scout project that will benefit a sistercongregation in Chicago that serves the poor and

Sewing Machines needed to Train Pastor Isaac'sOrphans in Haiti so they can Work and SupportThemselves!Request From Sue Gross, Haiti Lutheran Mission Project

On our last visit to Haiti we became awarethat some of the Orphans we still rememberas small children are growing quickly. Some ofthem will soon be out on their own trying tomake a living and supporting their ownfamilies. We are concerned that even thoughthey have an education, jobs are in very shortsupply and it will be difficult for them tosurvive. Next summer we hope to restart sewingclasses so that those ready to leave theorphanage will be able to support themselvesby making items that we will bring back to theStates to sell. For this project to start we are

asking for donations of portable sewing machines. We can send these machines on thebus when we ship it and it will not cost any extra freight. Please consider dusting off thatmachine you no longer use and donating it to those who will put it to good use. If you have a machine to donate please contact LCC at 866-455-6466 or [email protected] Click here to donate for the purchase of a sewing machine

Hicham Chehab, and our own TimHetzner. All speakers talked about theabounding opportunities presented to each ofus every day to share Christ with people we

meet. LCC's K9 Comfort Dogs were enthusiastically received and participants not onlyheard the stories of the lives they have touched but also how they have becomeinstrumental bridges for parish ministries. Comfort Dogs Olympia, Howie, Tara, Star,Zina, and newest K9, Gracie, were on hand to greet conference participants.

Movie Recommendation from Tim Hetzner A few months ago I had the privilege to preview the movie Courageous. ExcellentChristian Film - especially for men! I would encourage you advertise and attend themovie - even take a group from your church! When good Christian and family films comeout we want to support those who produce them!

Courageous in Theaters September30Four men, one calling: To serve and protect. As law enforcement officers, they areconfident and focused, standing up to the worst the streets have to offer. Yet at the endof the day, they face a challenge that none of them are truly prepared to tackle:fatherhood. When tragedy strikes home, these men are left wrestling with their hopes, their fears, their faith, and their fathering. Can a newfound urgency help these dads draw closer toGod ... and to their children? Protecting the streets is second nature. Raising theirchildren in a God-honoring way? That's courageous. CHRISTKINDL MARKETS trip to the Czech Republic,Germany and Austria, November 27 to December 5, 2011

December is the time for the Christkindl Markets (Advent Markets) in the Czech Republic,Germany and Austria, a tradition that dates back hundreds of years. Literally translated, the street fairs are Christ-child markets. They happen in nearly every city and village, large and small. They are always cause for celebration and for shopping, for someroasted sausage, music on the streets and the insides of centuries-old churches, and, ofcourse, some hot, spiced wine. Let this be an invitation to focus on Advent and the Coming of Christ in bringing in theChristmas Season. Tim HetznerPresident, Lutheran Church Charities Click here for more information on this trip

Disaster Response

Hurricane IreneLutheran Church Charities Working in New Jerseyand the New Jersey District of the LCMS Filled with compassion, Jesus reached out his hand and touched theman. Mark 1:41 Please help be the Body of Christ to touch those suffering from Hurricane Irene

It will go down as one of the most damagingstorms to hit New Jersey in a century, if notin recorded history. The state's rivers, swollen by Irene's relentless downpours, began spilling their banks Sunday, inundatingbackyards and basements, major highwaysand downtown streets. Many waterways werestill rising, suggesting the worst is yet tocome. Even as 1 million displaced residentsbegan streaming back to their homes alongthe Shore, tens of thousands of peoplebegan evacuating inland flood zones, a vastexpanse stretching from the state's northeastcorner to Trenton.

Lutheran Church Charities will be working with Rev. Dennis Rockett, the VP of the NewJersey District of the LCMS and Pastor of Holy Cross Lutheran Church tobring assistance to the families and churches in that District. Assessment of propertiesand contacting the people affected (many of whom have not been able to get back tosee their property yet!) is taking place now. The New Jersey District Office had minimalflooding. LCC will be working with the New Jersey District to bring assistance and mostimportantly the Mercy and Compassion of Christ to those affected by Hurricane Irene.Any assistance is greatly appreciated to help! Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for youwill not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed," says the LORD, who hascompassion on you. International Ministry

Help the Haitian Orphans NOW-Donations Neededfor Bunk BedsRequest from Sue Gross, Lutheran Mission Project

Friends of Haiti, I am often asked how a small congregationcan be part of the Haiti Ministry withoutmaking a monthly commitment of support.Well here it is..................... Immanuel Lutheran Church in RichtonPark, along with the Richton Park Community, bought a used school bus which we will useas a shipping container to send large items toPastor Isaac in Haiti. This is a rare opportunityfor us to have such a large space to ship

needed items to Haiti so we decided to take advantage of it by shipping the much

needed BUNKBEDS that the children will use when the addition on Pastor's house isfinished next year. We found white pine bunk beds at IKEA for $159.00 each. The mattresses are extra andthey have 20 available right now if we want them. We do not have to pay tax and we willpick them up ourselves. So if we can get 20 congregations to donate $300.00 we willhave enough beds for the 30 orphans and the guest room where mission teams will stayin the future. We would like to thank Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Richton Park Community forthe FEST they sponsored last Saturday. All proceeds went to pay for the cost ofshipping the bus to Haiti. Please consider a donation for this cause. These children sleepon a concrete floor in Pastor's home right now. These children have never had a bed tosleep in! Can you imagine the excitement when they get to sleep in their very own bedfor the first time? Please help make this happen NOW. If the bus leaves before we canraise the money for the beds it will be too costly for us to ship them. Click here to donate

Tim's Pick of the WeekWarrior Monk: A Pastor StephenGrant Novelby: Ray Keating Warrior Monk revolves around a former CIAassassin, Stephen Grant, who has lived a fardifferent, relatively quiet life as a parish pastorin recent years. However, a shooting at hischurch, an historic papal proposal, and threatsto the Pope's life mean that Grant's formerand current lives collide. Grant must tap thevaried skills learned as a government agent, atheologian and a pastor not only to protect thePope, but also to feel his way through aminefield of personal challenges.

Larry Kudlow, CNBC's "The Kudlow Report," said, "Ray Keating has created afascinating and unique character in Pastor Grant. The way Keating intertwines politics, national security and faith into a compelling thriller is sheer delight." U.S. CongressmanPete King, the Ranking Member on the House Homeland Security Committee, declared,"CIA intrigue, the Vatican, international terrorism and brutal assassinations make WarriorMonk a fast-moving, riveting read right out of today's - and tomorrow's - headlines. Addchallenging religious issues, which the author makes us confront, and you have a brilliantnovel.

LCC Emergency Assistance Fund

LCC gets requests daily concerning people who needassistance, and it is increasing because of the currenteconomic times we are living in.

LCC works through our churches to provide assistance bymaking the need known - and dollar per dollar we give themoney to a church to help the family or individual. However,we receive some requests that are emergencies, andmoney is needed that day or the next day and we can'talways get the need out in our weekly email newsletter first.

Would you consider making a gift to our LCC EmergencyAssistance fund so that when these emergency needsoccur we can help (through our churches) quicker? This isan important way for the Body of Christ to share the Mercy

and Compassion and Proclamation of Christ.
