C a t e c h e t i c a l S u n d a y The word "catechesis" means "to echo." Literally, we are to echo the good news of Jesus Christ to the world. This is not a suggestion; it is a command of our Lord. Some people are called and set apart in our communities as catechists, those formally trained and charged with passing on the Gospel to children and adults, inside and outside of our communities. On Catechet ica l Sunday , we acknowledge them and remind ourselves of the need for formation and growth in all of us. To be a catechist is a privileged calling, and today be sure to say "thank you" to one in your community. However, it would be wrong on this day to only look to those bearing the NAME of catechist for an echoing of good news. ALL of us are called to echo and share the Gospel message. Parents are the first and primary catechists in a child's life. But we also are important catechists in the lives of our coworkers, our spouses, our relatives, and our friends. Some say catechesis begins in the home, and while that is true, it carries with it a parent/child connotation. But where does catechesis really begin? It begins in the HEART. This year on Catechetical Sunday, may your heart be moved to motivate you to share with others the good news of Jesus Christ.

Last week, the scaffolding was erected on the East side (school side) of the Church. Now we can start the process of replacing the roof and repointing the bricks. This scaffolding

will help us gain access to the back steeple which will begin very soon. The scaffolding on the rear of the Church will soon be removed and that portion of the building complete. This should happen by the end of the month. Look for a lot of the ornate copper to be installed on the rear as the project stays on schedule. Anticipate new entrances to the Social Hall once the scaffolding comes down on the rear of the Church. For more information, please call Wayne Gould at the Parish Office.

THE SACRAMENT OF HOLY ORDERS: Why Is This Sacrament Called "Orders"? “The word order in Roman antiquity designated an established civil body, especially a governing body. Ordinatio

means incorporation into an ordo. In the Church there are established bodies which Tradition, not without a basis in Sacred Scripture, has since ancient times called taxeis (Greek) or ordines. And so the liturgy speaks of the ordo episcoporum, the ordo presbyterorum, the ordo diaconorum. Other groups also receive this name of ordo: catechumens, virgins, spouses, widows,....

Integration into one of these bodies in the Church was accomplished by a rite called ordinatio, a religious and liturgical act which was a consecration, a blessing or a sacrament. Today the word "ordination" is reserved for the sacramental act which integrates a man into the order of bishops, presbyters, or deacons, and goes beyond a simple election, designation, delegation, or institution by the community, for it confers a gift of the Holy Spirit that permits the exercise of a "sacred power" (sacra potestas) which can come only from Christ himself through his Church. Ordination is also called consecratio, for it is a setting apart and an investiture by Christ himself for his Church. the laying on of hands by the bishop, with the consecratory prayer, constitutes the visible sign of this ordination.” ~(1537, 1538) Catechism of the Catholic Church 1997
