Salt Spring: a great place to raiSe a family

While Salt Spring Island’s median age of 53.2 is high compared to the rest of B.C. (41.9 median age), not everyone on Salt Spring is a senior.

In fact, between the 2006 and 2011 census of Canada, the num-ber of Salt Spring residents aged 25 to 29 rose by 11.8 per cent from 295 to 330, and the number of people aged 35 to 39 also grew substantially — 21 per cent — from 420 to 510.

As well, the number of children aged four and under grew from 300 in 2006 to 375 in 2011, a 25 per cent increase, compared to only 11 per cent across Canada in that same time period. Yes, Salt Spring had its own mini baby boom!
