Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
May God Have Mercy on Us All
These are very difficult and sad days in our Catholic Church. A great evil has befallen the Church. As Jesus once said, "You will see 'The Awful Horror' of which the prophet Daniel spoke. It will be standing in the holy place" (Mt 24:15). The horrendous abuse of children by our brothers in charge of God’s people is certainly an “awful horror…standing in the holy place.” My immediate reaction when I heard this awful news was a sinking feeling of disgust, depression, confusion and anger. I could never rap my head around the possibility of what happened. I had moments of wondering what I was doing as a priest and whether it was time to back out. I can only imagine the amount of trauma this might have caused many of you.
I just want to say, on behalf of my brother priests and bishops, that I am so sorry for our failings. I am sorry for the pains we have caused you, the wonderful people of God. There is no excusing this evil away. I bow my head in shame for all this. Please, forgive us!
The gate of hell has definitely broken out against the Church. But as Jesus said, it shall NEVER prevail against the Church (Mt 16:17-19). The fight is on and the soul of the Church is on the line. Let us, therefore, be angry. However, let us channel that anger towards prayers and finding inspired solutions. We have come a long way and will gain victory if we pray hard, persevere and hold perpetrators accountable. There must be thorough investigations and justice done for the victims.
In case, you missed it, I recommend you read Archbishop Gomez’s letter published in the bulletin last week and also watch Bishop Robert Barron’s YouTube video released on August 26th (https://www.facebook.com/BishopRobertBarron/videos/2650607241631662/)
May God have mercy on us all. May his soothing love console the victims and all those traumatized by these horrific sins. May the Lord save us, forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life, through Christ our Lord. Amen. Fr. Aloysius Ezeonyeka
P. Aloysius Ezeonyeka

I’m not going to lie, it has been very hard to come to work especially in the past few weeks. In fact, I have been trying to write this article for a while, but just haven’t been able to find the words. I have been talking with teens on their thoughts and it has been rough. So many people have been hurt in so many ways by these new scandals that we have been hearing about in the Catholic Church. I have been listening to so many podcast and watching so many videos by speakers and religious talking about this issue and there are a few things that have stuck out to me that I wish to share. The first is that when people are saying that they have lost faith in the church, what are they really saying? Are they saying that they have lost faith in God or faith in the institution of the church? Both of these can be very shaken by what we are seeing and hearing, but it’s in these times that we need to hold strong. The one thing that has really stuck out to me is something that a priest named Fr. Mike Schmitz said. In his Ascension Presents video where he talks about this, he says that “it’s not time to leave the church, but to lead the church”. These words have been resonating with me so much. We can’t quit just because times are hard, we need to step up and lead our church to a better tomorrow. So please, continue to pray, don’t give up, and keep strong with your faith in God. Upcoming Events: Confirmation Registration Past due-Please Register ASAP

Safety tips for kids playing sports this school year
Published on 8/27/2018 Sports seasons start early, even for young
children, and while it’s great that they’re out getting exercise and learning new skills, safety is still a top priority. It’s recommended that all children who are playing school sports have an annual physical, and relevant health information (allergies, conditions, etc.) should be shared with coaches. Parents should make sure their children have the right gear, and that it fits and works wells. Children should stay well-hydrated, well-fed, and well-rested to keep up their energy and strength. Student athletes should be learning to be kind and fair, too, no matter the outcome of the game.
