Let’s Welcome Our New Council Members!

We are excited to announce that we have five new council members as of August. It has been an honor to work with our previous team of residents and they will be greatly missed. We have two residents serving for their second year and they will assist our new residents with the on-boarding process. It’s truly a joy to work with the coun-cil and I greatly appreciate the time they donate to Regency.

The council is to meet with the ED and review things that the resi-dents bring to their attention related to living here. It’s such a plea-sure to meet once a month and work as a team.

If you, as a resident, have any suggestions for the council, feel free to let them know. Their names are listed in this newsletter. Again, we really appreciate any and all previous and current resident council members for contributing their time.

We recently traveled to Yoder’s Country Market in Bulls Gap, a favorite destination of our residents. Several of us enjoyed delicious sandwiches out on the porch. And, of course, we ended up with some delicious treats, including fried pies, candy, and breads. We will be taking another trip back on Tuesday, September 10th. Come join us and see what a wonderful place Yoder’s is!

Trip to Yoder’s Country Market — July 31st

We set sail on a cruise this month for our FUNtastic Friday. We enjoyed some delicious treats, Klondike bars from our Alaskan cruise and dried pineapple from our Hawaiian cruise, just to name a couple. Then we played a game of Lifeguard, throwing life preservers on 2-liter bottles to see how many people that were overboard we could save. We had a great time, and look forward to our next FUNtastic Friday, Cowboys & Indians, on Friday, September 6th at 2:30 in the Parlor. We hope you will join in on the fun!

We had a wonderful trip to Chestnut Hill. We enjoyed a delicious meal at the Bush’s Family Cafe before we toured the Visitor Center and Museum. We enjoyed watching the very informational video of how Bush’s Beans began. The Museum offered lots of information as well. It was a beautiful day, so we drove around neighboring Dandridge and did a little sightseeing while we were out.

Trip to Bush’s Beans Visitor Center — August 7th

To say we enjoyed our evening of Karaoke would be putting it mildly. From Marcus singing some old Hank Williams Sr. tunes and Alan singing some Elvis, to Phyllis, Nancy & Valerie J. leading us in a few Gospel favorites, we all had a great time listening and singing along. But the highlight of the evening came when Irene Fain delightfully sang “Bad, Bad Leroy Brown.” We had so much fun and plan to do it again Monday, September 23rd. Come join us, and sing along to some of your favorite tunes, or just come listen to the others. Either way you’ll have a lot of fun!

Every other month we host our Charity Bingo event, inviting residents and the Morristown Community to enjoy a fun game of Bingo, while raising donations for a worthy non-profit organization. We are making a few changes to Charity Bingo. We will now be accepting items to donate to various agencies, instead of cash. This month we will be accepting donations of Canned Goods. Each canned good will be exchanged for a Bingo card. All canned goods will be donated to Daily Bread. Come join us, and see if you can win some great prizes.

A few good men, that’s what we can take on our Annual Men’s Fishing Trip. Space is very limited, so we can only take 6 men with us on this fishing expedition. We will travel to the beautiful Douglas Lake and try our luck with the fish. We will have a picnic lunch while on the boat. Bring a hat and your expertise, and everything else will be provided.

National Assisted Living WeekSeptember 8th - 14th

UPCOMING EVENTS

“A Spark of Creativity” is our theme for National Assisted Living Week this year. We have some activities planned around this theme. Sunday, September 8th, we will be hosting an Art Exhibit of participating youth from the area. Monday, September 9th, we will be host-ing a painting craft with Kasey from Marketing. Other activities for the week include ‘Storytelling by Tama’, Tai Chi, making reflecting Memory Boards, and the finale will be on Saturday, September 14th, an art exhibit with local artist, Jessica Borchert.

In keeping with this year’s National Assisted Living Week theme, “A Spark of Creativity,” we will travel to Knoxville to tour the Knoxville Museum of Art. We will have lunch while in Knoxville. The Knoxville Museum of Art presents the rich visual legacy of East Tennessee, and new art from the region and beyond. Please sign up in the green book outside the coffee shop on 2nd floor if you are interested in joining us.

Each year during National Assisted Living Week, we try to bring some wonderful entertainment to enjoy. Back for their 4th year, The Lost Creek Band will be enter-taining us with some fantastic bluegrass. We will also have some delicious BBQ to purchase. This will be a wonderful evening of toe-tapping, hand-clapping music that you will not want to miss! Join us on the patio beginning at 5:30 pm.

Josephine, or as our staff lovingly refers to her “Mama Jo,” was born and raised here in Morristown. After graduating High School, she attended Morristown College. She went to work for Dr. Lynch after graduating, and worked for him for 40 years, even taking care of his four children after his wife passed away. Josephine was married to Claude Houston for 53 years. They had two daughters, Claudine and Janice. Josephine has three grandchildren and two great-grandchil-dren. She attended Bethel United Methodist Church, where she was a Stewardess of Communion and a member of the choir. Josephine moved to Regency in 2015. She loves the people and all the fun stuff that goes on here. She just loves being a resident at Regency.

Barb has been employed with Regency since March 2011 as an LPN, but Barb does so much more here at Regency! Barb is willing to help out anywhere — nursing, VIP, activities, you name it. She audits our charts for nursing.

She goes on trips with the residents. She takes resi-dents to the VA and doctor appointments. Barb also volunteers on her own time to come play the piano for our Favorite Hymn Sing Alongs. She is always pleasant, meticulous, and dependable. Thank you, Barb, for making Regency a better place for everyone!
