AL-HIJRA ACADEMY In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Together Again 2013-2014 Once again teachers, students, and parents are gathered together at Al-Hijra Academy. They are back to the lovely atmosphere of learning. They are back with big smiles that can be seen on all faces, alhamdulillah. Everyone is happy to see all their friends, brothers and sisters. Some of our teachers have left to pursue other goals, and life opportunities, and we pray for all to have continuous success. Our community continues to rapidly grow, alhamdulillah, and our school board has started looking forward to expanding the school that has just finished being built. It seems there are no breaks between finishing one project and starting a new one. We will soon need to expand the school and start a high school. I congratulate everyone at Al-Hijra and welcome all the new and returning teachers, students, and families, and assure them insha’Allah that they will have a great and beneficial school year with more learning, more knowledge, and more fun! In JK we are in the process of learning 10 of the 99 names of Allah SWT, along with various hadith and du’aa. We are excited for the 2013/2014 school year. InshaAllah it will be a successful and fruitful year.

This month in preschool is a very important one! The children are getting to know their teachers Sr. Zana (English) and Sr. Karema (Arabic and Qur’an) The children are focusing on learning routines, being independent, getting comfortable, listening, communicating and sharing with their new friends! They are learning how to use materials like crayons, scissors and glue! Boy, do they love using that glue! By the end of this month, we will have finished the letters A, B, and C, numbers 1, 2, and 3, and exploring with all sorts of colours! We are really focusing on skills important to us in Islam, Can you guess what that is? Hygiene!! That’s washing after eating, using the washroom and playing. We have so many duaas that we didn't even know existed! Did you know there is even a du’aa before entering and leaving to go play outside? We’re learning to recite ayat Al Kursi because we here in preschool know how much Allah (swt) loves for us to memorize and understand His message. Last but not least, we are on the letter “baa” in Arabic. We are always at work Alhamdulillah! To you we may be little, but our brains can store a whole lot!! We have been some very busy bees! Anytime you pass by our class please stop by. Our kids love to be greeted with great big smiles, And a warm and sweet, “Hi!”

“Core” Tips for Back to School
• Involve your children in planning meals for the school day. Remember to put at least 3 out of 4 food groups in each lunch.
• The most frequent worries for children in Grades 4 to 8 involve parents, grades, and peers. Start the school year off well by spending time each day with your children to listen and talk with them about their fears, concerns, and successes.
• Talk to your children about the things they’re interested in and share the same with them. When they want to show you something, pay attention. If you can’t stop what you are doing right away, let them know that you’ll be with them soon and stick to your promise.
Encourage your children to “get active”. Regular physical activity can help children and teens maintain a healthy weight, improve confidence, self-esteem, and academic performance
