What if the referendum is defeated? If the referendum is defeated, the necessary repairs and renovations will need to be financed from the School District’s annual operating budget. Because the Board of Education can only increase the local tax levy for the operating budget by 2% each year, most of the repairs and improvements would not happen. The District will also lose the Regular Operating District (ROD) grant of $2.8 million.

When will the referendum take place? The referendum vote is Tuesday, September 30, 2014. Polls will be open from 2pm-9pm. All registered voters may cast their ballots at their assigned polling places.

Why are we doing this now?The board of education has been using patchwork repairs over the last few years to keep the infrastructures in decent shape. However, just like any building, major repairs are needed and, in this, case, renovations for upgrades that will save the district money in the long run. Furthermore, the state is offering a grant to fund a significant portion of the project costs, but only if the referendum is approved.

Where do I vote?Registered voters are asked to cast ballots at their regular polling places as follows:

Districts 1, 2, & 4 - Midland Park Fire House

District 3 - Midland Park Public Library

District 5 - Nativity Church-O’Connell Hall

Where can I get more information?Attend Board of Education meetings and/or presentations throughout the community.

Visit the district’s Web site at http://midlandparkschools.k12.nj.us.

If after attending a public meeting or reviewing the web site you have a question, please e-mail [email protected]. In order to receive a response all inquiries must include your full name, address and e-mail address.

Watch for periodic updates or coverage in the Bergen Record, Suburban News and Villadom Times.

Speak to members of the Board of Education about the plan details.
