September 14th so
our hosts will know
the number to be
ready for.
The September tour
will be the last one
that Cheryl and I will
plan as your presi-
dent, as I plan to step
down at the end of
this year.
Our September
meeting will be at
the Newark Valley
Railroad Depot on
September 21st. This
is our dinner meeting
that is now being
called our annual
celebration meeting.
The meeting will be-
gin at 6:30 PM. We
need to know who
will be attending by
September 14th so
we can let the ladies
of the Newark Valley
Historical Society
know how many to
prepare for. The
menu is ham with
baked potatoes, salad
and desert.
We also will be tour-
ing to Ottos Wheels
in Horseheads and
Don Merrill’s Mu-
seum in Waverly on
September 19th with
lunch at Beeman’s
Restaurant in Sayre.
The only cost will be
your check at the
restaurant. We leave
the Newark Valley
Railroad Depot at
8:30 AM, and the
tour will end about
5:00 PM. I need to
know how many
people are going to
this event also by

the judging and award-
ing of trophies. This
confusion did not re-
sult from a shortage of
room in the Future
Classics field as there
was much more room
for cars in the eastern
part of the field. We
only had not left
enough room for each
of the three classes.
We also need to re-
evaluate the placement
of two classes in the
same row on the show
field. There were a few
minor conflicts where
we had to place cars
from class 7 into the
area reserved for one
of the other classes.
In general we were
able to eliminate the
gapping hole in the
middle of the field that
we have been having in
the past, but we need
to refine the plan a lit-
tle more.
I am prowd of the
hard work that the
members of Tioga Re-
gion exerted for this
my final show as your
president and I hope
that you will continue
to produce the quality
of show for my re-
placement.
As most of you know,
we made several new
changes to our car
show this year. As with
all new endeavors
there were some flaws
that would only show
up when the plan was
first implemented.
Looking to the break-
down of cars reprinted
on page four, it is evi-
dent that the largest
turn out this year
came from the 1963
to 1972 years. That
class had a serious
overflow that we need
to address during next
year’s planning.
We also had thirty
cars in the “Future
Classics field and, due
to someone moving
the class signs be-
tween class 21 and 22
we had no room for
the nine cars in class
22 and wound up with
a mix of class 22 and
class 23 that resulted
in mass confusion in

SEMA Surprise
T I O G A T R A N S M I S S I O N
A few months ago I received a report from SEMA that the
state of Hawaii had just passed a law that no gas sold in the
state after the end of December 2015 would contain ethanol!
The surprise was in my belief that the addition of ethanol was
dictated by national law and as such was not in the province of
state or local government.
The state of Hawaii declared that ethanol attacked the fuel sys-
tem of our automobiles causing damage to any and all rubber
components. They also stated that ethanol added to the cost of
fuel as the cost of manufacture of ethanol was greater than that
of pure gasoline. Since Hawaii has to import all their fuel from
the mainland, the ethanol attracted water in the crossing de-
creasing the efficiency of the fuel. They ended their report
with the factor that ethanol in and of itself decreased fuel econ-
omy causing them to need to import more fuel just to meet the
needs of their citizens.
Since I have seen the damage that ethanol has done to some of
our member cars, and the added expense our members have
had to combat that damage, I wondered if there would be an
awakening of more of our lawmakers to the plight of all our
car owners not to mention those of us who love the history our
cars represent.
This month I once again received a report from SEMA that
there is a new bill being introduced in the Pennsylvania senate
recommending that they also outlaw the addition of ethanol to
the gasoline being sold in their state! With the exception of the
long transportation issues that Hawaii reported, Pennsylvania
included in their reasoning the same concerns that Hawaii re-
ported in their new law.
The only question now open is “When will New York open
their eyes to the problem and also pass a law that protects our
cars. This issue not only affectsour collectors but also any
automobile that is older than 2014! HOPE SPRINGS ETER-
NAL!!!
As I reported in the article on page one, as well as the minutes of
our August meeting, it is my intention to step down from the posi-
tion of president at the end of this year. It has been a pleasure to me
that for the last seven years you have placed your trust in me to lead
this club. I know that there have been times when I made mistakes
in judgment on some of my decisions, but you have tolerated those
mistakes and helped me to understand the needs of Tioga Region. I
know you will continue to support whoever replaces me in the post
of president and that Tioga Region will continue to be the best car
club in the southern tier.
The new president will soon learn that he will gain new friends
wherever he represents our club. He or she will also be turned to be
non-members for information about A.A.C.A. and Tioga Region be-
cause the public is interested in our hobby. The rewards are well
worth the time that the office requires.
I intend to remain active in Tioga Region and will attend all events
the club plans. My support for Tioga Region will continue even when
I no longer have the ability to drive the cars that I now enjoy. Thank
you for not only seven years of friendship but also for those still to
come.
