THE PROGRESS Faith Conversations with: Julie Halpin & Kim Waterstraat
Co-Directors, Christian Ed.
September 2015
What does it mean to be a ‘Transformational’ church? That seems to be the new ‘buzz’ word
floating around the Christian community. The ‘transformational’ movement is suggesting that God
can use moments out ‘in life’ just as easily as conventional studies within, to bring His Spirit into
our lives. That’s why we chose the theme “Listen: God is Calling” for our congregational theme for
the year. As we move into a new church year, we, in the educational world, hope to enhance the
good things we already have going here at Pilgrim, and maybe even add a few new types of
‘listening’ experiences along the way.
On Rally Day (Sept. 20), we will have another wonderful opportunity to find out how we can listen
to God’s calling. We will still enjoy a breakfast after church; the children will still meet their
teachers and enjoy short activities; but we also hope to include our first Adult Forum, starting our
transformational conversations within our Pilgrim family.
Pilgrim Wednesdays will begin again the Wednesday following Rally Day
(Sept. 23) with a Rally Day of its own. There will be a time of food and
fellowship, along with Adult and Youth activities (including Aqua Viva,
which will meet every Wednesday as well). We want to encourage all of
you to listen to this church calling—food, fellowship, fun, and the Word!
Listening is an open ended experience. It invites response. The same is
true for ‘the Calling’. We are hoping all of you will consider responding
to the Call to find new and old ways of listening to Gods Word. It is
always exciting, enriching, and good for the soul! Join us September
20th as we lead the way into a good year to come.
Graciously,
Julie and Kim

H.O.P.E. Club
Blessed to be a blessing!
Thank you to all who donated money, food, time – or all three – to serve a
very special group of kids! For two weeks in August, we provided lunch for
the kids and staff attending the H.O.P.E. day camp at Firgrove Elementary.
What a blast it was to get to serve these kids! We were so blessed by getting
to spend time with these kids and get to know them! The highlight was
definitely the two Wednesdays when they took a field trip and walked over to
Pilgrim and joined our Pilgrim Lunch Club for a lunch of barbequed hot dogs
and a mean game of kick ball with Jeff and some of our awesome youth!
We look forward to continuing our relationship with these kids and the larger
Firgrove community!
Community Day of Service—
Saturday, September 12th Join others from the Puyallup area in a community-
wide day of service to help beautify and restore the
City of Puyallup’s Woodbine Cemetery. All ages are
welcome! Join us from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and bring
your rakes, pruning shears, clippers, straight edge
shovels, sod knives, wheelbarrows, and gloves!
Pilgrim Lunch Club Thanks to those who helped make this year’s
Pilgrim Lunch Club a success! Each Wednesday
through August we opened our doors to kids in
the community for lunch and some fun! We had
as few as three and as many as 60 kids!
What a huge blessing (not to mention a
lot of fun) it was to make a connection
with these kids and to show them
God’s love as we served them and their
families!
