AGM Club 87
2016-2017 turned out to be an "Eventful" year for 41er Club No 87 in Visakhapatnam.
Movie nights, socials, chai sessions, ladies lunches , an international stag outing and the
grand finale - an international destination AGM with all 41ers in attendance except for one. A
total of 21 41ers, 21 ladies and 6 children boarded the Silk air flight from Vizag to Kuala
Lumpur.
The party started soon after check in. Snacks were passed around, everyone greeted
everyone else like they hadn't seen each other in a decade, a head count was done to make
sure all confirmed friends had indeed arrived, high SPIRITS added to the sense of
camaraderie and fun. It was soon boarding time and the airline staff thought it was best to
move us from the pre departure lounge to the aircraft to get some sanity and peace of mind.
I am sure the departure lounge was a quieter and calmer place after we all started making
our way to take our seats in the aircraft. It took a while for all 44 of us to figure out who
would sit in which row ( alloted seat numbers be damned ) , who had the snacks to be shared
on board, who wanted to sleep ( if they were allowed to by the rest of us ) and other such
logistics.
By the time the doors were closed and we were ready for take off, I am sure all the other
passengers and the crew were fully aware that were going to be an unwilling audience to a
party on board. Despite the late hours, the first two hours of the flight was one big party.
Once the seat belt sign was turned off, except for a couple of us, most were walking up and
down the aisles talking to friends, passing snacks around, buying stuff in wholesale off the
airline food service trolleys. After two hours of partying onboard, most of us finally settled
down to an hour of shut eye.
The three and a half hour flight soon took us to our destination, the Malaysian capital of
Kuala Lumpur. The middle of the night arrival did not dampen our spirits or our enthusiasm.
Baggage pick up, duty free and customs later, we piled into the bus and we were hotel
bound. After handing over our bags to the concierge, we made use of the time taken to
check the whole lot of us in by heading for breakfast. A sumptuous breakfast later, all of us
headed for our respective suites . Some tucked themselves in for a nap to make up for the
lost sleep while others freshened up and stepped out for some retail therapy.
By lunch time, most of us were in different parts of the Palladium Mall and trying out the
different cuisines offered there. The Japanese set menu restaurant won the approval of even
the vegetarians.

The “formal” AGM was scheduled to
be held in the hotel pool at 5.30 pm.
Dress code for 41ers was - swimming
trunks. At the given time, most of the
41ers were inside the pool in the
prescr ibed dress code. Af ter
splashing around like a bunch of kids,

Secretary & Fellowship Convenor
Ravi Godey wore their respective
collars and Zafar called the meeting
to order to which all the others
responded by splashing them
thoroughly with water. Zafar gave a brief account of the years events and Ravi listed
out all the fellowship activities including movie nights, socials, international stag
outing and the grand finale this international AGM that was hosted almost in total by
four 41ers - Chairman Zafar, Fellowship convenor Ravi, 41ers Ram Prasad and Satish.
As soon as Zafar and Ravi handed over charge of 41er Club 87 to Nikhil Oza and Doc
Siva, Parveen and Sandhya placed
crowns on the newly “crowned” King ,
Nikhil and Senapati Siva. A scroll was
rolled out for Maharaja Nikhil”endra"
Oza”bali” to pledge his allegiance to
Club 87 and to upkeep the spirit of
friendship and fellowship. The oath
taken, it was more fun and frolics in
the pool till everyone realised it was
time to go and get changed for
dinner. Everyone freshened up and
4 1 e r M a l l i k ' s s u i t e w a s t h e
designated adda for the pre dinner
drinks and snacks. To liven up proceedings, 41er Ram P initiated an impromptu ramp
walk. All those present took turns in walking the “ramp” with everything from elegant
catwalks to dandiya steps to all kinds of funny walks and struts that kept the audience
in splits. Once the vodka and wine bottles were emptied and the plates of snacks were
consumed, all of us trooped to a nearby restaurant for dinner hosted by the four
hosts. Post dinner, quite a few of us ambled along the streets leading to Petronas
towers and its surrounding areas.
Next morning after a leisurely breakfast
, all of us decided to better the
Malaysian economy by shopping in the
nearby Malls. Depending on the choice
of cuisines, groups of us had lunch in the
various restaurants in the mall itself.
Af ternoon nap done, the hosts
informed us of the plan for the evening
which included dinner at a nearby
restaurant. After dinner , the hosts
escorted us to the most happening
nightclub in Kuala Lumpur - Zouk. I have
never seen such a huge, spread out night club. The several areas of the nightclub were
connected by passages and were filled with enthusiastic men and women swinging and
swaying to the music.
Day three was our return to Vizag. Till it
was time to leave for the airport,
everyone was left to their own devices.
After two days and nights of partying
h a r d , t h e r e t u r n fl i g h t w a s
comparatively calm and quiet. We
a r r i v e d b a c k i n V i z a g h a v i n g
experienced a full house attendance
and wonderful memories of a collective
fellowship event overseas. Heartfelt
t h a n k s t o t h e f o u r h o s t s w h o
magnanimously offered to host
everyone for the entire duration of the stay and two full days of partying.
Congratulations and heartfelt thanks to 41ers ZafarHosain, Ravi Godey , Ram Prasad and
Satish for volunteering to be hosts and for organising a wonderful outbound, overseas AGM .

Election Update
As the AGM comes closer slowly the elections are coming into sharp focus. While only one
nomination was received for the post of National Secretary and the Editor, two each were
received for The Vice President and Treasurer.
It is learnt from reliable sources that the two candidates for VP post are not weeping at anything
and are aggressively campaigning. When we contacted, the candidates told us who they have
been talking to during their campaign…for the campaign. Rajiv Mehra and asked him who he had
been visiting for the campaign, he sair, “I have been to SiddhiVinayak Temple in Mumbai. I also
took out time to go to the Subhramanya Temple in Kodaikanal and the Kempfort Shiva Temple in
Bangalore”

Friends. We had a fabulous 2 days hos ng the YAPS in Pune. The pictures say it all. Only, this year Pune was includedin the North leg of the Yap tour. 7 hosts from the 3 Clubs namely 112, 157 & 200 came forward to hosts thesechildren. The 7 were Jitesh / Bineeta from 112, Deepak / Priya, Sanjay / Ritu from 200, Vijay / Sheetal, Zoeb / Insiya,Dhiren / Urvashi and Kiran / Sunita from 157. A big thanks to all of them. All the twinklers played an integral part ininvolving themselves in the ac vi es. We gave them a flavour of history and culture of Pune by taking them toKelkar museum, Shaniwarwada and Pataleshwar caves. Took them to Vaishali to experience our most popular dailyfood. Then to Bowling for some fun ac vi es indoor and in the evening to One lounge to experience the party scenein Pune and the foll day for a glimpse of the Osho Ashram. All in all it was one memorable event that we wereprivileged to be a part of. Unfortunately, this kind of event could not be done on a larger canvas involving the en reSq leg community and thus was restricted only to the hosts for all prac cal purposes. Nonetheless, hope Pune getssuch opportuni es every year for others too to experience.
