Hello howzit Midlands!

Me again. The AGM has come and gone and was again held at the rally at Queensburgh Caravan Park. I am in the Chair again and will strive to serve you all to the best of my ability. Thanks to all of you who put your trust in me to lead Midlands for another year. If you have noticed the front page, you would have seen that we only have seven committee members this year, with Terry taking on two portfolios. Should we need additional help in the running of the Region, an additional person will be co-opted onto committee for a while or a

sub-committee will be formed. There are two new faces to the committee line-up, they being Ruth as Treasurer and Linda as Scribe. On behalf of Midlands, welcome onto Committee. I am looking forward to your input and fresh new ideas. Des Shaw achieved his Eric Hoffman award for 10 years of service on committee – well done Des.

We again had an excellent turn-out at the AGM rally. Thanks to our day trippers and dignitaries for your effort and attendance at the AGM. Many of the members took advantage of the Thursday night free offer made by the park owners and made a long weekend of it. We had a total of 18 Midlands families and 1 Natal Region visitor in attendance. Kobus & René Stroebel attended their first rally as Midlands members and Chris & Debbie De Wit as first time new members. Our next Rally is at River Valley Resort in Pennington over the long weekend of 21st – 24thSeptember (Monday being a public holiday). Those of you attending, have a safe trip to Pennington.

“Too many people overvalue what they are not and undervalue what they are”

-Malcolm S Forbes-

Cheers for now, safe towing and God willing, I’ll see you at River Valley Resort for what I am sure will be another excellent weekend.

Hallo Midlands Guess I am back in the PRO seat again. Happy spring!!!! I would like to take this opportunity of thanking all the ladies for preparing all the delicious eats, which were enjoyed by everybody after the AGM. A special thanks to Rhoda for assisting me with this. Much appreciated. A quick update on Member’s who have undergone surgery/ been hospitalized/not well during this month. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers. We wish you all a speedy recovery and hope to see you soon:-

Sheila Pellew had knee surgery the Wednesday before the AGM. Despite this she attended the AGM on crutches – a strong, fit lady perhaps showing that women can tolerate more pain and be stronger. On Monday after the AGM, Bill Pellew was hospitalized for an irregular heart rhythm – the understanding is that doctors shocked his heart back into normal rhythm. Karen Grove-Mitchell underwent the same treatment but is since battling with back problems. She is receiving physiotherapy and we trust that she will be mobile soon. Sharon Leonard had gall bladder surgery after waiting 2 days to be placed on the theatre list and was discharged a day after. Kevin and the fur babies were very happy to have her home as they were starving.

We wish Tessa, Ken, Johnny, Glenda, Kevin, Stephan and Karen improved good health. The majority of Midlands will remember Grant Williams’ Mom, Wendy, who has rallied with us on a few occasions. She has undergone 2 operations in a space of 2 weeks. Her last operation was 5 hours, 30 minutes long where a mass was removed. The Oncologist is very happy and she will spend 7 to 10 days in ICU. We pray that Wendy will recover completely. Take it day by day and allow Grant and Shelli to spoil you, Wendy. There was great excitement in the Nefdt and Van Wyk family. Giselle and Quintus van Wyk are ecstatic parents of their second child and brother to Jamie. Little Thomas was welcomed into the world on 17 August 2018, weighing in at 3.240 kgs. Jamie is very excited to have a little brother and already loves him to bits. Dereck and I are very proud of our 2 precious grandchildren. Mr Nefdt can’t wait for his “train buddy” to grow up. Congratulations!!! Quintus, Giselle and Jamie. May your lives be filled with love, joy and laugher with your 1st baby boy.

A quick update on our members travelling around the country as well as outside our borders:-

Ron and Rose King have been in the UK for a while, visiting their daughter, Dianne, son-in-law and grandchildren. We hope you are still enjoying your visit. Some members are on their own tours visiting Kruger, Botswana, Namibia and the flowers in the Cape. Beautiful pictures posted on Face Book are clear that they are enjoying their respective holiday. Des and Elaine Shaw will be touring in the Western Cape for six weeks on their own and cannot wait to see their family in Cape Town. Their 2 granddaughters will join them on tour during the school holidays. Safe travels and enjoy your holiday.

Last but not least, our best wishes to the pupils of Midlands. Especially our Matric pupils, who will be writing trials, we know that you are well prepared by now and you will obtain the results you are striving for. Should your name not be on the celebrants list, please contact me. Please let me have any news you wish to share with members as well. Hope to see a lot of you at the superb, River Valley Resort. Remember it is a long weekend. Love Anita

WOW!!!! I cannot believe that I allowed myself to be spoken into this by Sally, after just a year of

being a member of the Midlands family. I promise I’m not half as noisy as her. As I am an

amateur to this portfolio, I will not be making much of a contribution to the newsletter this month.

I have been looking at things to do in and around Pennington and found Basset Breweries who

brew their own craft beer. Some interesting brews – Umdoni Gold, Befreckled Red, Pennington

Pride and Barking Blonde. A cold “frosty” may interest the “beer lovers” after the usual long

Saturday morning ride and walk on the beach. A tour of the brewery (approximately 1 hour) is

Page 13: SEPTEMBER 2018 NEWSLETTER FINAL 2018 NEWSLETTER_FINAL… · Daryl Kotze 9 10 Mc Kenzie 8 Williams 19 Kotze Dave 87 88 Gillham 192 34 35 Buys 85 King R 173 Rawlins 9 10 Castle 9 10

also offered (booking essential) which takes you through the entire beer making process and

includes beer tasting.

The park looks beautiful and has lots to keep those little ones happy and entertained. The rates

per night are also incredible and above all this is a long weekend to relax and getaway with the

family.

Please may I request those who have photos or anything of interest to share with members in

the newsletters, to email me at [email protected].

I hope I am able to make a positive contribution to the Midlands family in the coming year and

wish you all happy and healthy caravanning.

See you soon.

Linda
