Social Club needs someone to take over karaoke on the 3rd Monday of the month from 6-9 pm, November-April.
You must be willing to devote your time to these 6 days.
Mr. West will still do the first Monday of the month but is stepping down from doing the 3rd Monday. He will assist in training someone in on the system.

Any questions you may contact Robyn Johnson or Verland West.
TAKE PRIDE IN FOREST PARKWe need your help in making Forest Park an even
better place to live. We want to continue to be known as a community of distinction with well-maintained homes and yards. Please ensure that lawns, trees and shrubs are trimmed regularly and ensure that your flower beds are weeded. Homes in Florida also need periodic pressure cleaning so that exteriors are clean and free of mildew. Please refrain from using carports and/or driveways for storage. These provisions are contained in our Rules & Regulations which are available on our website at www.forestparkonline.com.
If you are out of town and need information on companies which can perform necessary maintenance, please contact the park office at 239-543-1155. Your investment in your home is an investment in our community and will help to foster pride in our park as well as increased property values. Thank you for you efforts and cooperation.
LABOR DAY OFFICE & MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE
The Forest Park Office will be closed on Monday, September 2, 2019 in observance of Labor Day and no maintenance services will be available. The office will reopen on Tuesday, and regular maintenance and trash service will resume then. Hope you all have a great Labor Day with family and friends!

JUST A FRIENDLY REMINDER…
There has been some confusion around who is responsible for the maintenance of the ditches and foliage on the perimeter fences.
The perimeter fence was erected by and is the responsibility of the Park. Accordingly, the Park will repair or refurbish post foundations, fencing and barbed wire as necessary. It may also trim a growth that threatens to damage the fence.
Please call or come to the office to report unattended overgrowth on the fence.
The ditches are part of each resident’s property and as such need to be included in regular lawncare for each individual homeowner. This is very important as long grass or tall weeds are favorite places for unwanted critters, like snakes and iguanas to nest.
We appreciate your cooperation in keeping these ditches maintained as part of your regular lawn care as per our Rules and Regs. Please remind your yard maintenance person to keep the ditch bank cut when doing your lawn care.

FOREST PARK WEB SITE:By: Jan Harmon, WebmasterWeb Site www.forestparkonline.com
The new www.forestparkonline.com website is up and running with many changes in format.
FPPOA members in good standing can obtain a user name and password for the Members Only page by contacting the office by phone at 239-543-1155 or email [email protected] . Be sure to make a note of your user name and password and keep it in a secure location. Should you forget your password you will be directed to a page to change your password. You will still need the same username, that does not change. Using that information, you then click on the Members Only Icon on the home page and a form will open to type your user name and password. (You will have the option to check “remember me”. Assuming you do this, and use the same computer, you should not have to type that information in the next time you log on.) You will then be able to access all the documents on the Members Only link.
You will notice the new web pages have “drop down menus” at the top of the page. If you mouse over the topics a sub-menu will open with other options of pages that are available.
The GALLERY has photos taken by Joe Flores. His latest shots of the flora and fauna in the park are there for your enjoyment. Be sure to take a look at this page.
SOCIAL CLUBS tab has information of all the clubs in the park and contact data for same. I have added some data relevant to the 2019-20 season. If you know of changes to this page, or have information regarding next seasons schedule, please be sure to contact me with the updates.
The SERVICES link has much information on the services provided by the park.
We hope that you continue to use the site, share with friends interested in living here, and enjoy keeping up with all the happenings while you are at your “summer” residence.
As always, suggestions and corrections can be directed to [email protected].

FOREST PARK VISITORS WRISTBANDS
Visitors unaccompanied by Forest Park residents must wear wristbands when using park recreational facilities (pool, mini-golf, etc.). The wristbands are now available in the park office (2 per family and additional bands may be requested). The bands stretch but if they are not large enough you may pin them to clothing, attach them to a key chain or just bring them along.
Please remember that all owners are responsible for their visitors who must comply with all Forest Park Rules & Regulations. Thank you for your anticipated cooperation to assist in maintaining the security of our park.
Trash, Horticulture & Waste Disposal Reminder….
Just a refresher on our Rules & Regulations for trash, horticulture and waste disposal...• Trash bags which weigh more than 30 lbs. will not be picked up.• Trash bags must be tied, or they will not be picked up.
• Horticulture bags must be tied, or they will not be picked up.
• Loose horticulture clippings must be 4 feet or less, tied & bundled & not more than 30 lbs.
• Cardboard should go out on Wednesdays with recyclables.
• Any outside contractor doing work at your home - tree trimming, lawn maintenance, home remodeling/repairs MUST haul off their own trimming and refuse. It will not be picked up by our maintenance crew.
The full list of rules is available on our website at www.forestparkonline.com, or you may contact the office if you have any questions.
Connie Smith passed away recently. She and her husband Smitty lived on Timber Lane N. for many years. They were well known for entertaining, inviting everyone to play cards and games at their home. They were very active in their church and enjoyed dancing and participating in park activities. Connie is survived by her stepson Danny and she will be dearly missed.
Gloria Novak, 75, of Broadalbin, NY passed away on July 25, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. Gloria and her husband Stanley (who passed away in 2017) wintered for many years in Forest Park and Gloria enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. Gloria will be dearly missed.
IF you would like to include your birthday, anniversary or a loved ones obituary in future newsletters, please e-mail the office at [email protected].
NO SOLICITINGForest Park has a clear non-solicitation policy posted
at the front of the community. However, there are several companies that persist in soliciting our residents. Unfortunately, there have been situations where residents have been taken advantage of by solicitors.
The most frequent violators include companies which sell water purification systems, tree trimming services, and air conditioning companies. These companies may offer free services, such as water quality testing, A/C check, etc. Another tactic they employ is implying that they provided a service in the past to you or to your neighbors, or that they are conducting a survey.
Residents are encouraged to never open the door if you do not recognize the individual. Tell the individual through the window that they are trespassing and must leave immediately. If they do not leave, please call the Lee County Sheriff (non-emergency number) at 239-477-1000.
7
HAZARDOUS WASTE
Lee County has very strict regulations regarding hazardous material disposal. The Board voted to approve the initiative to have all residents place paint, pesticides, chemicals, florescent bulbs and gas bottles at curbside.
Park employees will pick up these materials on Tuesday and Friday and log them in. These articles will be stored and disposed of in the appropriate manner by staff members.
The rules and regulations have been changed to reflect the process.
GREEN TREE STICKER There is a little green tree sticker available in
the office that goes on the LEFT SIDE OF YOUR BACK WINDOW of your car. All residents with automobiles should have this highly visible authorization to be in the Park. This will help the safety patrol on their nightly rounds. If you are temporary resident and don’t want any stickers on your window, them scotch tape it there while you are here.
RECYCLE BLUE BIN
The blue bin is used for all other types of re-cycling such as paper, metal, plastic, etc. This is a separate Program from our regular trash that is picked up on Tuesdays and Fridays. The re-cycle truck comes on Wednesdays.

ALUMINUM CAN RE-CYCLEBy Social Club
REMINDER Aluminum Cans being collectedPlease do Not Use the can as an ashtray. Beer Drinkers,
please rinse out the can and turn it over to dry out. Please take the tab off, collect them and take your full container to the clubhouse. On kitchen counter, there is a Ronald McDonald box that you put the tabs into. Betty Campbell takes them to the Ronald McDonald House where they sell the aluminum. You are helping both Social Club and Ronald McDonald House.
Please remember to put your aluminum cans in a bag and place UNDER YOU MAILBOX by 7:00 A.M. TUESDAY MORNING for pick up. Please make sure your cans are rinsed CLEAN and DRY. Please place away from trash bags. DO NOT place plastic, glass or metal cans in the bag. Those go in the blue recycle bins.
Money collected for can recycle helps pay some of the costs of Social Club activities. It benefits all residents of Forest Park.
HURRICANE & DISASTER PREPAREDNESS
Hurricane season runs from June 1 to mid-November. Before a hurricane, or in preparation for any disaster, make the following preparations: (thank you to Ready.gov for much of this information):
• Build an emergency kit and make a family communications plan. (Keep cell phones fully charged. Texting will often work even if calls cannot be placed).
• Have a family member or friend out of the area designated as a contact for all family members
• Know your surroundings.• Pay close attention to weather forecasts and storm
surge warnings and react to weather warnings and guidance from city officials appropriately.
• Learn community hurricane evacuation routes and how to find higher ground.
• Determine where you would go and how you would get there if you must evacuate. Know area shelters.
• Take a written inventory and photograph or videotape house & belongings.
• Review/update homeowner’s insurance policies and keep information on hand.
• Have cash and extra gasoline and prescription medicines on hand.
SECURE YOUR HOME FOR A HURRICANE
• Trim dead or broken tree branches and shrubs around your home so they are more wind resistant.
• Clear loose and clogged rain gutters and downspouts.• Bring in all outdoor furniture, decorations, garbage
cans and anything else that is not tied down.• Make sure your address number is clearly marked on
your mobile home.• Check and secure all of your mobile home's tie-
downs.• Bring in any loose items from outside – lawn décor,
furniture, BBQ grills, bicycles, etc.• Secure any loose roofing and siding.• Purchase these materials to secure your mobile
home: Plywood, Shutters and/or protective window film, Plastic sheeting, nails
Make an emergency preparedness kit:Your kit should include a portable, sturdy, easy to
carry, water resistant container and should have enough supplies for seven days. Check your kit and replace perishable stock every six months. Whether you purchase a kit or choose to build your own, your seven-day kit should include:
• Water - one gallon per person, per day.• Food - non-perishable, easy-to-prepare items such as
tuna fish, peanut butter, crackers, and canned fruit. Make sure to include a manual can opener.
• A battery-powered or hand-crank radio, flashlight and plenty of extra batteries.
• A first aid kit.• Prescription and non-prescription medication items
(seven-day supply). Include medical supplies like extra hearing aid batteries, syringes, etc.
• Copies of important documents, including birth certificates, insurance policies, a medication list and pertinent medical information, proof of address, deed/lease to home and social security cards.
• Cell phone chargers.• Multi-purpose tool.• Sanitation and personal hygiene items.• Extra cash. ATMs and credit cards won’t work if the
power is out.• Special items for infant, elderly or disabled family
members.• One blanket or sleeping bag per person.• Pet supplies (collar, leash, ID, food, carrier, bowls).• Maps of the area.
...continued on page 10
10 11
Prepare a family evacuation planEach household needs to develop a household disaster
plan. The plan should include:• Identifying two meeting places: one right outside
your home in case of a sudden emergency, like a fire, and one outside your neighborhood in case you can’t return home.
• Making advanced preparations for your pets. Be aware that pets may not be allowed in shelters. Contact hotels, motels, family members and animal shelters to see if they would allow pets in a disaster situation. Keep a contact list of “pet friendly” locations. If you are asked to evacuate, take your pets with you.
• Choosing an out-of-area emergency contact person. During or after a disaster, it’s often easier to call long distance, especially if local phone lines are overloaded or out of service. Family members should call this person and tell them where they are. Everyone must know your emergency contact person’s phone number and email address.
• Plan your evacuation route. Use local maps and identify alternate evacuation routes from home, work and/or school. Know where you are going and how you plan to get there before you leave home.
Be informed• Find out what types of disaster are likely to occur in
your area and how to prepare for each.• Find out how local authorities will contact you
during a disaster. Listen to local media broadcasts or NOAA Weather Radio for the latest storm conditions and follow the advice of local authorities.
• Contact the NFM Fire Dept. for details about community disaster education presentations that may be arranged or are available in your workplace, school or community organization.
• Get trained in CPR and first aid so you will know how to respond to emergencies in the event that help is delayed.
• If you are told to evacuate, do so immediately. You may choose to evacuate sooner than alerted if you think you may need additional time.
Know what to do if a hurricane WATCH is issued• Listen to weather updates from your battery-powered
or hand-cranked radio.• Bring in outdoor objects such as lawn furniture,
hanging plants, bicycles, toys and garden tools, anchor objects that cannot be brought inside.
• Close all windows and doors. Cover windows with storm shutters or plywood.
• If time permits, and you live in an identified surge zone, elevate furniture or move it to a higher floor to protect it from flooding.
• Fill your vehicle’s gas tank.• Check your disaster supplies kit to make sure items
have not expired.Know what to do if a hurricane WARNING is issued• Listen to the advice of local officials and leave if
they tell you to do so. • If in a manufactured home, check tie-downs and
evacuate as told by local authorities.• Secure your home by unplugging appliances.• Turn your refrigerator and freezer to the coldest
setting and keep them closed as much as possible.• If you have propane, turn off the tank.• If you are not advised to evacuate, stay inside, away
from windows, skylights and glass doors.• Use flashlights in the dark. Do NOT use open flames,
such as candles and kerosene lamps, as a source of light.
• If power is lost, turn off appliances to reduce damage from a power surge when electricity is restored.

FOREST PARK LIBRARYBy Gail Ford
Forest Park has a great library. It is located in the Activities Building. Come check it out. We have many books, magazines, puzzles and a small selection of children’s books.
We could use more Large Print books. Please do not "dump" your OLD books and magazines in our library. We have no room on the shelves for them. Thank you.
BID EUCHREBy Madeline Preston
We play Bid Euchre every Saturday Night at 6:30 in the Activities Building. There is a Sign up sheet in the Activities Building on the cabinet near the Water Machine. We are always looking for more players. Come join us!!
USE CAUTION IN HIRING CONTRACTORS!
When you need to hire a contractor for work on your home (roofing, home repairs, lawn maintenance, etc.), ask the contractor to provide copies of their business license and insurance. This protects you in the event that the contractor is injured on your property. Also ask the contractor to provide references. Get cost estimates and warranties in writing, and do not make final payment until the work is complete. There is a Resource Book in the back of the Clubhouse which contains listings for many different types of contractors. You may also check Angie’s List, the Better Business Bureau and other online rating sources. A simple Google search on the business name may provide additional information. Please ask any outside contractor to stop by the office to register and provide copies of their license and insurance. Better safe than sorry!!
RESOURCE BOOKIn the clubhouse there is a Resource Book which has
been put together by members of Forest Park. These are referrals or warning of how outside vendors have performed in the Park. Before you hire someone, please check the book to see if someone in the Park has used that particular company or Person. If you would like to add a name or business, you may do so.
BINGO Please joins us on Tuesdays at 6:45
for 7:00 pm Bingo in the Clubhouse each week. Cards are $.75 with a minimum purchase of four cards. Night Owl cards are 25 cents. There is a new addition to our BINGO games. You put a quarter into a “money ball pot.” The first number called is the “special number” so that if you bingo on that number, you will win the money that has been collected in the money ball pot plus the money that is allotted for the game that you won. If the money ball pot was not won, the amount is saved from week to week until someone is the winner. Come and Enjoy Playing Bingo!

LADIES BIBLE STUDYBy Laura Esters
The Ladies’ Bible Study Group meets weekly on Thursday mornings from 10:00 A.M. to noon. Our members are women from various churches and/or denominations. We have refreshments, a time for sharing our concerns, prayer and a study, which is taught from both the Old and New Testaments by Laura Esters.
As so many new folks have moved into our park, we believe it is important to let our residents know about this activity as well as all the other organizations that the park offers. We do not espouse any specific theology but are a group of Christian women who enjoy making friends, encouraging and supporting each other as the needs arise, and learning about the Bible.
During the months of November to April we meet at the home of Reva Doliana, 849 Hollyberry Court. From May to October, Waneta Schafer opens up her house to us at 344 Shrub Lane S. Just come to the door and walk in---we’ll be glad to welcome you! If you have any questions, please call Reva at 812-322-3986, Waneta 239-219-7593 or Laura at 239-210-8010.
MEXICAN TRAIN DOMINOESBy Sheila Fitzgerald
We play Mexican train dominoes on Monday morning at 9:00 at the club house. Everyone is welcome to join in. It’s an easy game to learn if you have never played and we have a lot of laughs as we play. We would love to have some new members join us.
We’re a very informal group, with no permanent commitment required. Just come by on any Monday morning and give it a try.
NORTHEAST CLUBBy Barb Wood
September already and fall is fast approaching. This means the “Snowbirds” will soon be starting their return to Forest Park. The hustle bustle (almost like Christmas) to get things done before everything starts in full swing! Meetings to attend, clubs to join, games to play, new people to meet, WOW so much to do!
So just as a reminder for you, here is the list for what North East Club has planned for this season
December 9th “Ugly Sweater/Gift Exchange”.
January 27th NEED someone to step up and host this one. Please think about stepping up and hosting a fun evening.
February 24th, “Roaring 20’s” hosted by Sally Miller. Get your outfits ready for a fun night out on the town.
March “Saturday Night Fever” hosted by Pam Salk. Disco dancing anyone!?!?
April 13th with our annual picnic hosted by club officers
Everyone in Forest Park is welcome to become a member. You do not have to be from the Northeast. Last year, folks from 17 states and Canada joined and had lots of fun. Each event includes a meal and some type of games or entertainment. You must have your dues paid and tickets must be purchased in advance. Cut-off for getting tickets is normally one week prior to the scheduled event.
We look forward to seeing you at our meetings.

INTERESTING ABOUT OUR COUNTRY—WASHINGTON DC AND GEORGE WASHINGTONSubmitted by Jan Harmon
The "George Washington" Monument LAUS DEO One detail that is seldom mentioned is that in
Washington, D.C. there can never be a building of greater height than the Washington Monument.
With all the uproar about removing the Ten Commandments, etc., this is worth a moment or two of your time.
I was not aware of this amazing historical information.
On the aluminum cap, atop the Washington Monument in Washington, D.C., are displayed two words: Laus Deo.
No one can see these words.
In fact, most visitors to the monument are totally unaware they are even there and for that matter, probably couldn't care less.
Once you know Laus Deo's history, you will want to share this with everyone you know.
These words have been there for many years; they are 555 feet, 5.125 inches high, perched atop the monument, facing skyward to the Father of our nation, overlooking the 69 square miles which comprise the District of Columbia, capital of the United States of America.
Laus Deo! Two seemingly insignificant, unnoticed
words.
Out of sight and, one might think, out of mind, but very meaningfully placed at the highest point over what is the most powerful city in the most successful nation in the world.
So, what do those two words, in Latin, composed of just four syllables and only seven letters, possibly mean?
Very simply, they say 'Praise be to God!'
Though construction of this giant obelisk began in1848, when James Polk was President of the United States, it was not until 1888 that the monument was inaugurated and opened to the public.
It took twenty-five years to finally cap the memorial
with a tribute to the Father of our nation, Laus Deo, 'Praise be to God!'
From atop this magnificent granite and marble structure, visitors may take in the beautiful panoramic view of the city with its division into four major segments.
From that vantage point, one can also easily see the original plan of the designer, Pierre Charles L'Enfant ..... a perfect cross imposed upon the landscape, with the White House to the north, The Jefferson Memorial is to the south, the Capitol to the east and the Lincoln Memorial to the west.
A cross you ask? Why a cross?
What about separation of church and state? Continued on page 18
18 19
Yes, a cross; separation of church and state was NOT, is NOT, in the Constitution.
So, read on.
How interesting and, no doubt, intended to carry a profound meaning for those who bother to notice.
When the cornerstone of the Washington Monument was laid on July 4th, 1848 deposited within it were many items including the Holy Bible presented by the Bible Society. Praise be to God! Such was the discipline, the moral direction, and the spiritual mood given by the founder and first President of our unique democracy 'One Nation, Under God.'
I am awed by George Washington's prayer for America .... Have you ever read it? Well, now is your unique opportunity, so read on!

"Almighty God; We make our earnest prayer that Thou wilt keep the United States in Thy holy protection; that Thou wilt incline the hearts of the citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to government; and entertain a brotherly affection and love for one another and for their fellow citizens of the United States at large.
And finally that Thou wilt most graciously be pleased to dispose us all to do justice, to love MERCY, and to demean ourselves with that charity, humility, and pacific temper of mind which were the characteristics of the Divine Author of our blessed religion, and without a humble imitation of whose example in these things we can never hope to be a happy nation.
Grant our supplication, we beseech Thee, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen."
Laus Deo!
