Gospel Meditation September 19, 2021 | 25TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

“Jesus, give me the heart of a servant. Give me your heart

of love.”

Jesus said to His disciples to focus on being servants, not on becoming great. But then instead

of going deeper into his teaching about serving, he pivoted to the theme of receiving a child in

his name. So why did Jesus change the subject? He didn’t. He just had a different definition

than we do. Like the disciples, we might think of service in terms of quantity and impact. But

that’s not how Jesus sees it. If you lead a Bible study with fifty people and your neighbor leads

one with five people, that doesn’t necessarily make you a better servant. If you are spending all your free time helping out in

numerous parish ministries and your neighbor is able to give up only one extra hour a week that doesn’t automatically mean you’re

more of a servant. What makes you a servant? Your willingness to welcome Jesus no matter how he comes to you. If you’re willing

to “waste” your time with a child or any other vulnerable person, you’re a servant. If you’re willing to imitate Jesus’ humility as he

washed his disciples’ feet, you’re a servant. If you’re willing to imitate his compassion as he stood up for a woman caught in

adultery, you’re a servant.

Jesus promised that those who become “the last of all and the servant of all” are the “first” (Mark 9:35). May we all learn how to

live in the humility and lowliness of Christ.

The change to which the liturgy invites us is the change from God. Develop a program that helps me grow in the spiritual life and in

the ecclesial mission of the Family. The three friends of the Parish Mr. Pedro, Mr. Vicente, and Mr. Héctor motivate us to always be

servants of Christ.

I thank God for the entire catechesis group. Like every year, this Catechetical Sunday motivates us a lot to give thanks for all the

catechists of children and young people. Let us pray together with Saint John Bosco to give thanks for the teachers of Religious Ed-

ucation. I wish for our Parish to always have a good education team. Children and young people help me pray for Your Parents and

for all the teachers of the Saint John Bosco Education Center. May God bless our Parish.

Servir es el estilo habitual del ser cristiano

Los textos litúrgicos de este domingo indican que Jesús con su persona, con su enseñanza y su vida ha traído un cambio al mundo

del hombre. En la Primera Lectura, al impío que no entiende ni acepta la vida del justo se le pide implícitamente un cambio de

actitud. El texto del Evangelio por su parte sostiene que los discípulos de Jesús necesitan cambiar de mentalidad ante las

enseñanzas sorprendentes de su Maestro. Y en la Segunda Lectura, Santiago propone a los cristianos un programa espiritual que

implica un cambio en el estilo de vida que antes llevaban. Para ser discípulo de Cristo debemos cambiar algo por tener a Dios en el

lugar principal. El Bautismo y la Eucaristía reestructuran al hombre por dentro, le infunden un nuevo modo de ser y un principio

nuevo de actuación. En ello esta la base del cambio de vida, pero este cambio requiere gracia de Dios, trabajo humano, tiempo

para que las nuevas estructuras sean vitalmente asimiladas y configuren día tras día, acción tras acción, el comportamiento

humano. Cambiar la vida es la gran tarea del cristiano, llevada a cabo con constancia y entusiasmo. El cambio al que la liturgia nos

invita es el cambio desde Dios. Elaborar un programa que me ayude a crecer en la vida espiritual y en la misión eclesial de la

Familia. Los tres seres amigos de la Parroquia, Sr. Pedro, Sr. Vicente, y Sr. Héctor nos motiven a ser servidores de Cristo siempre.

Según el criterio de Jesús, miles y miles de hombres y mujeres anónimos, de rostro desconocido, a quienes nadie hará homenaje

alguno, pero que se desviven en el servicio sencillo y desinteresado a los demás. Hombres y mujeres que no viven para su éxito.

Su vida es un misterio de entrega y desinterés. Saben vivir más allá de sus propios intereses. Sin hacer cálculos. Sin medir mucho

los riesgos. Hombres y mujeres que saben poner su vida a disposición de otros. Actúan movidos por su bondad.

Doy las gracias a Dios por todo el grupo de catequesis. Como todos los años este Domingo Catequético, nos motiva mucho para dar

las gracias por todos los catequistas de los niños y jóvenes. Oremos junto con San Juan Bosco para dar las gracias por los maestros

de la Educación Religiosa. Deseo para que nuestra Parroquia tenga siempre buen equipo de la educación. Los niños y jóvenes

ayúdenme orar por Vuestros Padres y por todos los maestros del centro de la educación de San Juan Bosco. Que Dios Bendiga

nuestra Parroquia.

Thank you, Catechists! Our dear Catechists, Your vocation as a catechist is one of the most difficult vocations in the Church. We are aware that on top of your

full-time commitments to your respective families and jobs, you devote so much time and energy studying, preparing for your Faith Formation class week after week, researching new and creative lessons to make

teaching relevant, trying out different ways to get the attention of kids most of whom would rather be somewhere else texting or playing video games. You compete with soccer practice, shopping, piano

lessons, and a TV and technological culture that considers religion as last priority.

Despite all these challenges, you keep at it. You take to heart your

vocation to help parents prepare our children to live a happy, faith-filled life...and lead them to heaven. Indeed, our Parish cannot

succeed without you. Accept our sincere gratitude for the gift of your person, your faith, your dedication, your love for the children

entrusted to your care. We pray that God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus

(Philippians 4:19).

¡Gracias, Catequistas! Queridos catequistas, vuestra vocación de catequista es una de las

vocaciones más difíciles de la Iglesia. Somos conscientes de que además de sus compromisos de tiempo completo con sus respectivas

familias y trabajos, dedican mucho tiempo y energía a estudiar, a prepararse para su clase de Formación en la Fe semana tras semana,

a investigar lecciones nuevas y creativas para que la enseñanza sea relevante, a probar diferentes formas de llamar la atención de los

niños, la mayoría de los cuales preferirían estar en otro lugar enviando mensajes de texto o jugando videojuegos. Compites con la práctica de

fútbol, las compras, las lecciones de piano y una cultura televisiva y tecnológica que considera la religión como la última prioridad.

A pesar de todos estos desafíos, sigues así. Te tomas en serio tu

vocación de ayudar a los padres a preparar a nuestros hijos para vivir una vida feliz y llena de fe ... y llevarlos al cielo. De hecho, nuestra parroquia no puede tener éxito sin ustedes. Acepta nuestro más

sincero agradecimiento por el don de tu persona, tu fe, tu dedicación, tu amor por los niños confiados a tu cuidado. Oramos para que Dios satisfaga todas sus necesidades de acuerdo con sus riquezas de él en

gloria en Cristo Jesús (Filipenses 4:19).
