CHURCH OF ST. CHARLES BORROMEO ST. ANTHONY, MN

From the Pastor’s Desk

This weekend I will be in Kansas City where I will be invested into the order of the Equestrian Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem (EOHSJ). This is a long name for a group with a simple mission, to help support Christians and the Christian holy sights in the Holy Land. For nearly 1000 years, the EOHSJ has served the Catholic Church by aiding Christians in the Holy Land as well as those of other faiths. Although they no longer ride horses into battle, they pledge their support to help the few Christians remaining in the Holy Land as well as keeping the holy cites in Christian hands. I first learned of this order when I traveled to the Holy Land and was able to see and hear first hand of the good work that this order is doing and supporting. When I entered the Church of the Holy Sepulchre I was inspired to see Christians from every denomination venerating the holiest places on earth. I was amazed that this one church contains Golgotha, the place where Jesus was crucified, as well as the Holy Sepulcher (Jesus’ tomb). These sights must be preserved for future generations of Christians to visit and venerate. The EOHSJ are instrumental in helping to preserve these and other Christian sights. But, most importantly, their greatest work is to preserve Christian presence. The Order is a source of financial support for the Latin Patriarch (Bishop) who distributes these funds as needed to the Christians under his care in the Holy Land. This mission began during the First Crusade when Godfrey de Bouillon, the leader of the First Crusade, liberated Christians in Jerusalem from Muslim control and returned Holy Sights back to Christians. As part of his reorganization of the newly freed territories, he founded the

Order of Canons of the Holy Sepulchre, which was the beginning of the EOHSJ. When I entered the sacristy in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, hanging on the wall was the sword that Godfrey de Bouillon used to help liberate Jerusalem. It’s encasement in glass is a reminder that the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre are still doing battle to liberate Jerusalem and the Holy Land. However, our battle is not with swords. The EOHSJ use the power of prayer and channel financial resources through the Latin Patriarch (Bishop) to help support Christians and maintain a Christian presence in the Holy Land. While I will not be returning home with a sword and riding on a horse, I will return home with a stronger sense of the importance of helping our Catholic Christian brothers and sisters in the Holy Land. I encourage you to learn more about the Order at http://www.eohsjnorthern.com/introduction.html (There is a great video about the mission). Also, there is a lot of misunderstanding about the crusades. I encourage you to learn the truth about the Crusades on www.formed.org under the title Understanding the Crusades by Dr. Thomas Madden. God bless, Fr. Przybilla

Dear St. Charles Parishioners, As the weather cools and the leaves begin to turn we settle in for the 2018-19 school year at St. Charles. This year's Marathon is on October 6, the same day as our parish festival. I've enjoyed having parishioners join us in the past and hope to see many of

you out there this year. As a reminder, Marathon Day begins with 8 am Mass, followed by a Rosary on the lawn before hitting the streets. We are offering this Mass and

Rosary for our surrounding community. Please sponsor a Charger for this year's Marathon! Please keep our students and mission in your prayers, you will be in ours, Danny Kieffer

St. Charles Principal

2019 Mass Intentions Book is open! (and there are still open dates in 2018 as well). Call the parish

office to have Mass said for your intentions!

Looking for an easy way to help us reduce costs? The weekly bulletin is an invaluable way to communicate to our parishioners and others interested in learning about the happenings at St. Charles Borromeo. Through the generosity of our

advertisers, we are able to significantly defray the cost of publishing. We currently have a number of open advertising spots. Would you be able to recommend someone to place an advertisement? Please see the back of the bulletin for details.

CHURCH OF ST. CHARLES BORROMEO ST. ANTHONY, MN

News & Upcoming Events at Our Parish

For the past three years, St. Charles has been partnering with NPH (Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos, “Our Little Brothers and Sisters”), an international organization founded by Fr. Wasson in the early 1950s to provide a family environment for abandoned youth of all ages. Today, more than 3,500 young people are being raised in a Catholic family setting in large group homes throughout Mexico, Central and South America, and the Caribbean. Students from the El Salvador home will be visiting the Twin Cities and staying with St. Charles families this October 6-12. They will be participating in a number of events

designed to familiarize us with their lives in an NPH home and to raise needed funds. In two weeks, the adolescent youth and their chaperones will be participating in the Sunday Masses of October 7, and then putting on a program of singing and dancing in Doran Hall after each Mass. Coffee and donuts will also be served. Envelopes will be in the pews for all Masses to make it easier for our parishioners to generously support these youth in their desire to lead a productive and faithful Catholic life. Please prayerfully consider supporting this important work.

On Sunday, October 7, the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, St. Charles will be joining the nationwide Rosary Coast-to-Coast, uniting our prayers with millions of other Americans at the exact same time for our nation and our church. Sponsored by the Holy League, it is modeled on the Rosary prayed around Poland, the British Islands and Ireland in recent years. These countries, as well as Canada, Mexico and many others will be uniting with the U.S. on October 7. Please join the St. Charles Rosary Rally at 3PM (designated Central time zone) and invite your friends, family and neighbors. We hope to have a big enough crowd to line the streets around the church and school. St. Charles is one of 13 registered locations in the Archdiocese so far. More information can be found at www.rosarycoasttocoast.com, or email Donna Engelmeyer, [email protected].

The Church of St. Charles Borromeo Knights of Columbus are serving a Pancake Breakfast TODAY from 9 am to 12 pm,

in Doran Hall. Please stop by for a wonderful breakfast of all-you- can-eat

pancakes, sausage, and milk, juice, and coffee. All proceeds from the breakfast will go toward supporting the Knights of Columbus College Loan Program. Thank you Knights of Columbus! Pancake Breakfast TODAY!

September 30 at 9:30 am for the Rosary!

You may be called only six or seven times a year, to work with this much needed and worthy group. We need volunteers for weekday groups.
