Extra copies of the brochure are available in the church. The theme for this years campaign is Glorifying the Lord by Our Lives”. The CMA affords each of us an opportunity to support the larger Church so that it can meet real needs throughout the Diocese. Your support enables the Church to be responsive and caring. Please be generous in your response. Every gift is needed and important! If it is easier, you can make you gift at www.dor.org – you can also pay your pledge off in six installments. Pledge forms, which can be put in the collection or mailed directly to the Diocese, are available in the back of the church on the gifts table and the Adoration table by the Baptismal Font . For us to reach our parish goal, it is so important that everyone contributes. The Gospel doesnt give any of us a free pass on helping our neighbor in need. Your generosity is needed and so appreciated. Secondly, for those who are able, you are asked to increase your gift a bit higher than last year. Personally, I intend to increase my commitment to the CMA. As I say, if you are able but only if you are able, I would ask that you do likewise. At the end of the day, you will never regret being generous with those in need. As long as our loving and forgiving is generous with us, may we continue to be generous with people in need throughout the diocese. Teaching Mass

In honor of the 150th anniversary of the Diocese of Rochester, our beloved Bishop Matano has declared a special liturgical year of the Eucharist. It is a year in which he urges us to “deepen

your personal devotion to Our Lord in the Eucharist.” To facilitate this, Church of the Holy Spirit will offer a series of teaching masses that will systematically explain the different parts of the mass, their history, meaning, and symbolism. The first teaching mass will be held on Monday September 25th at 7:00pm. This will continue at the same time for the following 7 weeks. At 7:00pm there will be a brief teaching followed by mass at 7:15. Following the celebration of the Eucharist will be a moment of reflection and discussion as a group. Please consider joining us for this prayerful event meant to foster love and devotion for the Eucharist, which is the “source and summit” of our faith.

Interested in becoming a Knight of Columbus?

If you are looking to live out your faith in a spirit of charity, the Holy Spirit Knights of Columbus council welcomes you to join us. You will strengthen your faith and become a better Catholic, husband, and father. Through our programs –

such as Breakfast with Santa, raising money to support a seminarian, and various building projects – we strive to build up our parish and our community. We graciously welcome the gifts our new members may offer to better assist us in our efforts of developing a sense of Fraternity, building a Unity of community and purpose, while providing Charity to those in need. Please consider adding your gifts and talents to ours, so we can grow in our best efforts for our parish community!

If you want more information, contact Grand Knight John Veloski (381-9656), or see us after Mass the weekend of September 16th and 17th.

Neighbors Celebrating Neighbors!

Our neighboring parish, St. Paul’s, is currently celebrating its 50th anniversary, and this year has been full of wonderful celebratory events commemorating the church’s mission of witnessing and proclaiming the message of Jesus Christ through word, worship, and service. Coming up soon is a special Anniversary Dinner to be held 6pm Friday, October 13th at the Webster Golf Club. Tickets are $40 per person. The sit down dinner includes your choice of Prime Rib, Chicken French or Crab Stuffed Sole.

Former parishioners and interested neighbors are invited to join us for a special evening of celebration. Keynote speaker Bishop Emeritus Matthew Clark will be joining us as will former staff members. There will be a silent auction and penny social raffle for a variety of wonderful gift baskets as well.

Tickets can be purchased from the parish office Monday through Friday during the regular business hours of 8:30am to noon and 1:00pm to 4:30pm. If you have any questions, call Jodie 671-2100.

Come be part of our celebration! We’d love to see you!

Special Mass with Anointing of the Sick

Thursday, October 5 at 11:00am

Sacrament of Reconciliation -- 10:15am to 10:45am

A light lunch will be served after Mass

These Masses with Anointing occur at St. Joseph's Church in Penfield usually every-other month, the next one occurring on Thursday December 7, 2017 at 11am. The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is the Church's sacrament for those who experience an illness or advanced age. It is perhaps the most misunderstood of all the Sacraments - many remember the times when the Sacrament was reserved only for those who were dying. Anyone who is facing a serious illness, a serious operation, or advanced age is encouraged to request this Sacrament. Those who are conscious of grave/mortal sin should seek to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation before receiving the Sacrament of Anointing. One who receives this Sacrament would normally receive it again only if they had recovered for a time but then fell ill again. Or this Sacrament may be repeated if during the same illness, the person's condition becomes more serious.
