A major vehicle for accomplishing our stated goals. A team of 9th Grade Teachers who meet every other day for 40 minutes. The 9GA teachers work collaboratively to help ensure the success of incoming 9th grade students. Most 9th grade English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Special Education teachers are on the team.

Keep in touch with your child’s teachers
All faculty email addresses are the first letter of the person’s first name followed by their last name followed by @rondout.k12.ny.us o For example, Alan Baker is [email protected] SUGGESTION: Send your child’s teachers an email introducing
yourself. Include the following • Your name• Your child’s name • The email address you would prefer them to use to contact you. • Any academic goals you have for your child.
o To CALL the school, dial 687-2400 and then the appropriate extension.
Whatever your concern, first try to resolve it with that person in a cordial manner. o E.g. If you have a teacher concern, contact the teacher first.
If you cannot resolve the issue, contact your child’s counselor and/or your child’s Assistant Principal. o You can set up a parent teacher conference if you wish.
If that does not resolve the issue, call the Principal’s Office (extension 4201).

Students, you are about to begin the best four years of your young lives! o Make sure you are taking advantage of
the many opportunities we have here and also begin thinking about your future.
Parents, your child will graduate in four years! YIKES!o Make sure they are on track to graduate and
setting themselves up for post RVHS success.
Students, think about where you want to be in 10 years? o What kind of job would you like to have?
• What kind of education will you need to attain that job?
o How much money would you like to be making? o What kind of car would you like to drive? o What kind of house would you like to live in? o Do you want to work for yourself or for somebody else?
What do you need to accomplish in the next four years of high school to make those dreams a reality?

Remember that in high school, if you do not pass, you will not be promoted to the next class. In Regents classes, you must pass the class and the Regents exam in order to graduate.

Prepare for the next level o If you want to attend BOCES Career & Technical School your junior
year, earn your 9th and 10th grade credits. o If you plan to go to college
• Take the PSAT, SAT, ACT exams • Work with your counselor to consider schools that have the program
you want to pursue on college. What classes are those schools looking for in applicants?
• Try to take courses that can save you time and money in college. Usually taking these courses requires that you do well in lower level courses (e.g. to take AP European History, you need to do well in Global 9 this year).
Advanced Placement Classes: Student can earn college credits if they earn the score on the AP exam that the college requires. Collegian Courses: Students can receive SUNY Ulster (and, in many cases, credit at other SUNY schools) for courses taken at Rondout or SUNY Ulster during high school. o Cost: $55 per SUNY credit which translates to roughly $165 per
course. The cost for students who receive free and reduce lunch is $1 per credit. This is much cheaper than taking the course in college at SUNY Ulster. Those courses generally cost $400 or more compared to approximately $165 if taken while still in high school.
Collegian Courses offered at RVHS 2012-13: o College Algebra & Trigonometryo College Algebra/Pre-Calco AP Calculus o Spanish 5o Design Foundations
Collegian options will expand over the next few years. For example, all AP courses can qualify for Collegian credit. Students can receive the Collegian credit regardless of their score on the AP exam as long as they pass the class.
