You will find in this bulletin the 2013-
2014 Annual Report to the People. There is a
detailed presentation of the financial facts and
figures and as well as lots of statistical
information about St Charles. Your comments, questions, or
concerns are always most welcome.
You will also find a letter from Sister Denise Marie
outlining her future plans. While Sister will still be with us at
St Charles on a part-time basis, she will also focus on founding a
new community of religious women in the Diocese of Cleveland.
We assure Sister Denise Marie of our prayerful support
as she embarks on this challenging new journey.
This year’s Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
(RCIA) kicks-off on Monday, September 15 and continues on
successive Monday evenings, 7:30 to 9:00pm, John Paul II Room
(second floor of the Parish Activities Center) Those interested in
joining the Catholic Faith (whether unbaptized, baptized in
another Christian Church, or baptized Catholic but have not
received First Eucharist, First Confession or Confirmation) are
invited to “come and see.” Please share this invitation with
someone you know who might be interested in this year’s RCIA.
Call Father Ryan Mann for additional information: 440-884-

Next Sunday, September 14, at the 10:30am Mass, we
will acknowledge Sister Patrick Marie, OSU, and thank her for
her sixty years of faithful service as an Ursuline Sister of
Cleveland---twenty-three of those years here at St Charles!
Sister came to us in 1991 and she faithfully taught first grade for
many years. Hundreds of St Charles students learned their
“Three R’s” from patient Sister Patrick Marie. From the time of
her arrival, Sister involved herself in a variety of parish
ministries: the First Grade Christmas Pageant, our Wednesday
Evening Special Education Program, and as a First Communion
teacher in our PCRF program. Sister currently directs the day
school remedial program on the primary level; Sister says she is
content as long as she can teach children. Sister also knows her
way around the kitchen: her chocolate chip cookies, soda bread,
and Irish scones are highly-prized. Sister Patrick Marie has
spent sixty years doing good for others. Next Sunday we will
have the opportunity to rejoice with Sister and to express our
gratitude to her. A Sixtieth Anniversary Jubilee Reception in the
lower Parish Hall will follow next Sunday’s 10:30am Mass. All
parishioners are invited.
Father Ryan Mann, Life Teen Coordinator Lena
Mekhael, and Sister Denise Marie have lined up a spectacular

7:00pm Mass beforehand.

Lennon offers a lecture series, 12:30pm, at St John Cathedral.
All are welcome. Here are the upcoming dates and topics:

Prayer is a powerful weapon against the indifference and
isolation that many young people struggle with in our society.
Please join the prayer team that will meet every Sunday night

My Dear St. Charles Family,
When Fr. Carlin asked me to join the pastoral staff at
St. Charles 20 years ago, I was a young nun looking forward
to sharing this new ministry with you. I am very blessed to
have served all these years as your pastoral associate. You
have nurtured my vocation and you have helped me fall ever
more in love with the Lord and with the gift of religious life.
You have supported me and encouraged me every step of the
way.
Over the years, I have been most blessed to journey
with many young women who are discerning a “call” to
religious life and who are seeking to discover God’s
vocational path for them. Consecrated life is a gift to the
Church and there is a great need for more Sisters in our
Diocese.
For some time, I have been discerning a “call” by the
Holy Spirit. That call has led me to a new direction in my life:
the founding of a new religious community for women in the
Diocese of Cleveland. I have been trying to listen intently to
our Lord’s voice speaking in the depths of my heart.
After extensive meetings with Bishop Lennon, with
the Diocesan Delegate for Religious, and with the leadership
of my Ursuline Congregation, I have been given a three-year
opportunity to pursue this call. Striving to discover and to be
faithful to that which God desires for me, I have said “YES.”
I must now venture on this new and unknown path, even in
the midst of the many uncertainties that lie ahead.
In order for me to put my whole heart into this
venture, I must lessen some of my time and responsibilities at
St. Charles, effective September 1st. I very much want to
remain on the pastoral staff and I am grateful to Fr. Carlin for
allowing me to do so on a part-time basis. I will continue my
ministries with the youth of our parish and with my women’s
ministries. I will be involved at the parish as my schedule
permits. I hope to be “as present as possible” at various
St. Charles events. I also hope to see you occasionally at
weekend Masses, but I will not be present every weekend.
I am blessed to have followed in the footsteps of the
many Ursuline Sisters who have served so faithfully at
St. Charles Parish since 1924. I am grateful for the support
and love of Sr. Patricia and Sr. Patrick Marie these past 20
years and I look forward to continuing my ministry at
St. Charles alongside them.
I ask for your support and your prayers as I begin
this journey in faith and trust with the Lord. Please pray for
an increase in vocations to the priesthood and to the religious
life, especially in our Diocese. Thank you for all your love.
I look forward to all that is ahead and to sharing this new
adventure with you as it begins to unfold and, God-willing,
comes to fruition.
You have my love as always,
Sr. Denise Marie
