A Monthly Newsletter of Blessed Savior Lutheran Church – SEPTEMBER 2016
The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod
P a g e | 2
A Letter from Pastor Sander
I was happy when they said to me:
“Let us go into the House of the LORD!”
Psalm 122:1 Dear Friends and Fellow Pilgrims! September is here and so is our routine! There is such comfort and joy in returning to our busy fall schedule, each day at Blessed Savior filled with activities – all designed to proclaim the Gospel of our LORD Jesus Christ! The best of all of these activities, is going into the House of the LORD regularly, after family travel and vacations. September marks a new beginning for us:
1) We start with new Sunday morning Bible Classes, Sunday School, and Confirmation Instruction on
Wednesdays. Tuesday Bible Classes will resume as well.
2) We also will have a special door offering to help the victims of the floods in Louisiana and the wild-
fires in the western USA. We do this through our Missouri Synod Lutheran World Relief. Since the
LORD enables us to do the work of the church, we will continue our support of missions throughout
the world as we reach deep across the borders of the nations and speak to them the Word of
forgiveness and love and eternal life in the name of the LORD Jesus.
3) And, this September, we have a very special guest among us: Miss Isabela Scherer, a Brazilian
exchange student, a senior at Martin Luther High School, partially sponsored by our congregation.
Make sure you make her feel at home here, as she builds international bridges and is a living example
of the universality of the Christian church, the true Una Sancta!
4) The Church Council has decided that new carpeting be installed in all areas now carpeted. Even
though expensive, it is necessary. We will also paint the halls and offices of the church. Many
volunteers will be needed. We have an opportunity to contribute here with gifts and with work.
When this project is finished, I will cook a Brazilian meal for everyone who helped in any way!
Fellowship, work, food: does it get any better? Oh, yes, my wife Joan will make her special cream of
passion fruit with Crème de Cassis desert. Do not skip this!
I look forward to serving the LORD Jesus Christ shoulder-to-shoulder with you!!! Come, let us go into the House of the LORD! Your pastor and friend, Martinho Q. Sander

From DCE, Jaime Greene
To the Christian Army, heading back to school- It’s that time. Summer is winding down and the halls of school are calling you. Some of you are finding yourself in a new school, a new building, maybe even a new state. All of you are finding yourself in a new grade. It’s exciting, it’s scary, it’s thrilling, and it’s overwhelming. The mood of it all can change faster than the temperature in Wisconsin. But this year is going to be amazing and memorable and you will survive thrive. Thriving looks differently for everyone. But Christian Army, today I challenge you to thrive in the following ways 1. By being bold 2. By standing up for someone who couldn’t stand up for themselves 3. By showing love to someone who couldn’t love themselves for a moment 4. By being Christ’s hands and feet in your school 5. By showing respect, even if it isn’t easy 6. By putting God’s ways higher than your own 7. By doing your best in every situation 8. By remembering your magic words and manners 9. By letting your faith SHINE 10. By trusting in God in each and every situation Ok. Here we go! School year 2016-2017. Remember to breathe. You’ve got this! “Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the Lord and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.” Psalm 1:1-3

SWD-LWML Fall Retreat: Sept. 30–Oct. 1. Join other Lutheran Women in Mission from our District at the
Holiday Inn in Manitowoc to grow in faith and refresh the spirit. This year’s theme: “Katie Luther…Heart of a Servant.” Additional information and registration forms are available on our Women’s Ministries bulletin board, or for download on the District LWML website, www.swd-lwml.org. __________________________________________________________________________________________
The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) Annual Celebration: During church services,
Thursday, Sept. 29 and Sunday, Oct. 2. The first Sunday in October is traditionally set aside for the observation of LWML Sunday, but it may be celebrated at any time. The LWML is a national organization, the official women’s auxiliary of The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. The mission of the LWML is to assist each woman of The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod in affirming her relationship with the Triune God so that she is enabled to use her gifts in ministry to the people of the world. You may have noticed the large white and purple LWML Mite Box in the Narthex. Based on the Biblical account of the widow's mite (Luke 21:1-4), the mite box is intended for regular contributions of "mites" (offerings). Mite Box contributions fund district and national mission grants and implement the LWML program. Find out more by visiting www.lwml.org, our Women’s Ministries bulletin board, and by talking with our LWML Representative, Janet Steinhaus.

QUILTERS – We have 72 quilts completed, surpassing our number from last year!!!
We send the quilts out in October, so we will continue adding to that number. There have
been new helpers coming on Wednesday mornings and also several ladies sewing quilt tops at home. A big
“THANK YOU” to all for their faithful service to a much needed and appreciated mission project.
We are always in need of any sheets – colored, printed or white. Even the pillowcases can be useful. Rummage
sales will be ending soon, and are great opportunities to pick up sheets. Mark your donation “QUILTERS” and
place it in the kitchen or on the donation shelf in the storage area off the fellowship hall.
CRAFT BASKET – For all of you who love to do crafts, this is a great opportunity to pick up a few and work on
them. When finished, the carfts will be sold in the Blessing Shoppe or at the Christmas and Gift Faire. Any funds
we make help us to support various missions.
PILLOWCASE DRESSES – They are so easy to make! Check out the samples by the Blessing Shoppe. The
dresses are sent primarily to Africa and Haiti. We have a supply of cases….just ask for one or more to complete.
There are printed directions too! Contact Bev Krause (262)860-0410 if you are interested.
SCHOOL BAGS FOR MISSIONS – We are collecting items to complete these school bags. Your help in
donating needed items makes this project happen. The items we need the most are: spiral notebooks (70 pages,
college or wide rule, 4 notebooks are needed to complete each bag), crayons (box of 24), and pencil sharpeners.
A complete list of items can be found in the Narthex and on the Women’s Ministries bulletin board. A collection
box is available in the Narthex.
Military Ministry
Three care packages were sent to the USO in Bagram this past month. We are
not out of items to send, but the supply is running low. Please remember to pick
up a list of suggested items from the mission table, and purchase an item or two
when shopping. Our military men and women in Afghanistan need to know
they are remembered, and each package we send is very much appreciated.
A box of coupons was sent out in August totaling $41,078.99, weighing 13
pounds. In the future the coupon weight will be given rather than the dollar
amount. Adding up all the coupons is VERY time consuming, and weighing
them will enable us to get the boxes out more quickly.
Please continue to donate your unneeded and unused coupons, by clipping them from various sources, and then trimming
and sorting them by date of expiration. Thank you to those who are able to do this, and we do have several volunteers who
will do this if you are unable to. Expired coupons can also be included. A drop-off container is on the mission table.
We are still working on a box of canceled stamps to be sent to benefit veteran projects by the Lions Club. Please continue to
cut them off your mail. The stamps can be placed in the drop-off container on the mission table.
For our faithful knitters and crocheters of helmet liners: the yarn will be back in September! Check the yarn table in the
fellowship hall to see what’s available. Our service personnel appreciate your time, talent and efforts in making them.
Our correspondence with military personnel on our mailing lists continues. Cheryl Taves has been very faithful maintaining
contact with all military personnel on our list, and this is so very much appreciated. You can add a family member or friend
to this list by contacting Cheryl at (414)529-3444.

Stewardship
Stewardship is all about thanking God in response to His blessings to us. This year, as preparation for Stewardship Sunday in November (11/13), we would like to share some of the ways that we honor God with our gifts, time, and talents. For several weeks in the fall, we will share some of our church family photos and highlight some of the things that each group does. We are asking you to describe your activities and submit a photo of some or all of your group's members in action. On the Thursday and Sunday that your group will be highlighted, we ask that you stop by the poster in the Narthex, and take a ribbon to wear, so that others can see you and start up a conversation about how you have been blessed and how you give back to God with your talents.
Please stop by the recently reorganized library. Kathy Herbst and Irma Lipke have cleaned, organized, and updated the shelves. Our library challenge for the summer was a success with over 25 books checked out from the cart in the Narthex while we were re-organizing. Please continue to share this resource. It's easy to check out a book anytime. Sign the card and leave it on it on the desk near the library door, and we will take care of the rest. We have a need for a driver to help a member attend our Sunday morning services from Waukesha. If you live out this direction, please consider this way to serve and support our brothers and sisters.

Preschool News
2016-2017 Program Year
It just got busier in our lower level! Our child care room opened for our fall session
on September 1. Preschool classes spent that week holding Play and Papers sessions.
Parents were invited to join their children in the classrooms to learn a little bit more about
what will happen on a typical day. Children were able to meet their teachers, listen to a
story and play with some new friends. Our program year begins September 6. We have
68 children enrolled in our programs this year! We are excited to be able to share Jesus’
love with each one of them.
We have a few openings in our 3K and 4K classes. Call us if you know someone who is still looking for a
preschool. We will continue to enroll children until our classes fill! Child care is also available. Hours may be
flexible and vary each week.
2016-2017 Early Childhood Center Staff
Meet our early childhood center staff! Mrs. Sue Murack continues to serve as the director of the center. Sue
also teaches the morning session of the 4K preschool class. Mrs. Shannon McNiel is the teacher in our Extended
Day 4K class. The 3K morning classes are all taught by Mrs. Ann Dagenhardt. Assistant teachers in our
preschool program are Ms. Kate Knoll and Mrs. Janet Hamann.
Ms. Ashley Utecht and Ms. Kate Knoll are our regular child care teachers. Ashley is also teaching the
PreThree class which meets as part of our child care room. This year Ms. Amanda Croke, a student at Carroll
University, will be joining us as an assistant during the late afternoon hours in child care.
We look forward to another year of learning and fun!
Feature Teacher
Meet Sue Murack! Sue began teaching in 1998 at Blessed Savior Early Childhood Center, where she enjoys
instilling the love of learning in children. She feels that even more important than what a child learns, is that the
child loves to learn and feels confident that he or she can learn anything!
In the fall of 2007, Sue began serving as the director of the Early Childhood Center. She enjoys combining the
business aspect of directing along with her teaching. Sue continues to serve as the director and teaches one
session of the 4K classes.
Sue and her husband live in Waukesha. She has three adult sons and two daughters in law. Spending time
with family is her greatest joy. She also enjoys reading, boat rides on a lake and working on small home projects.
We are excited to be starting another year of teaching and sharing God’s love
with families in New Berlin and the surrounding communities!
“Teaching His children to grow in faith, understanding, and service.”
