Newsome’s News! Welcome to a brand new school year. The staff and students are quickly settling in and getting acquainted with one another as we “Lasso Learning in the Classroom”. The start of the school year always brings baseline assessments to guide teacher instruction.
Kindergarten teachers will be sharing test results with parents at the first conference night and
grades one through five will be sharing valuable information as well. Please make plans now to
attend our conference night on Tuesday, November 9th from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Progress alerts
will be sent home the week of September 20th
so be sure to check your child’s backpack to see

Kindergarten News! Kindergarten is off to a great start! We are working very hard at mastering our letters and sounds so that we can all become the brilliant readers and writers that are hiding within us. Our little mathematicians are working on identifying their numbers and the scientific side of Kinder-garten is learning about tools (forceps, thermometers, droppers, etc) AND our five senses!!! So much learning! So much potential! Thank you for all your support - we look forward to a won-derful year.

Grade Level News
First Grade Corral! READING: First grade is a time of learning experiences, discovery and growth. Here in 1
st grade we will be spending a great deal of time read-
ing a wide variety of books. We hope that your child is reading daily at home. MATH: During Math, students are learning many new concepts and strategies. They work in small groups with hands-on activities. So far, we have learned different ways in adding. We have just moved onto subtraction. Math is challenging and interactive! Please help your child as needed.
SCIENCE: We have been working on sorting objects by observable properties, such as size, shape, color, temperature (hot/cold), texture and weather objects sink/float. Next, we will be working on various ways that objects can move, such as in a straight line, zigzag, back/forth, round/round, fast and slow. Students will be observing in groups with many hands-on activities. SOCIAL STUDIES: Classroom and school rules are very important. We have been discussing on how to get along in school, why is it important to learn and this week we will focus on the reasons why schools have rules. Please make sure that your child understands their class-room/school rules. If they don’t remember, they should ask their teacher. WRITING: During writing time we are focusing on penmanship, writing sentences using spaces, periods and capital letters. Students will learn to use details and descriptive words. They will also learn what a good sentence needs and how to create a list for prewriting. **PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOUR CHILD IS DOING THEIR HOMEWORK AND THAT THEIR AGENDAS ARE BEING LOOKED AT AND SIGNED DAILY. ANY CONCERNS OR QUESTIONS, PLEASE DON’T HESTITATE TO CONTACT THE SCHOOL. DON’T FORET TO CELEBRATE YOUR CHILDS SUCCESSES, NO MATTER HOW SMALL IT MAY SEEM. Grade Level News
Second Grade Bull Pen! Welcome back to school! We have had a wonderful opening of this school year. Our second graders have arrived prepared and eager to learn. We are busy this month. We are learning about place value in math, and we are reading, reading, reading. We had media orientation, and we have started checking out books. We are learning about Johnny Appleseed and how to use maps in social studies. We are also enjoying doing lots of hands on investigations in sci-ence. Your second graders will perform with first grade on September 21st, at the PTSA family night event. We look forward to meeting every parent on report card pick up night.
Physical Education Department Coach’s Corner
In Physical Education classes, students are participating in educational gymnastics. We
are learning balance, flexibility, and tumbling routines. We will begin PEDAT testing
soon, which will include push-ups, sit-ups, sit and reach, catching, throwing, and locomo-
tor skills.
Parent tip: Stretching with your student is a great way to improve flexibility which can de-
crease muscle strains.
Fourth Grade News Fourth grade is off to an amazing start. Students are getting to know their teachers and class-mates. Reading: Students are learning how to make inferences and analyze stories. To accomplish this our focus is on main idea and details, plot development, and finding the problem and so-lution in the story. Students are having a lot of fun by using different activities to help them infer and build schema. Writing: Students are practicing planning for an essay. They are working with different crafts to elaborate. Children are excited while using their imagination to write fantastic stories. Math: Students are working with Place Value to the Million. They are using number lines and models to identify numbers. Ask your child to sing one of the cool songs they have been learning for place value. Science: Students are learning about how to use their science inquiry tools. Then we will begin learning about the different stages of matter.

Fifth Grade Round Up! Fifth Grade is saddling up for success with our new math materials! Our new GoMath! Florida series is filled with math content and many interesting facts about Florida. As they tackle the new math stan-dards, students have been learning about how to graph and analyze data. They are now learning about division using real-world prob-lems to solve questions. In the coming weeks they will be learning about different ways to solve a division problem using one and two digit divisors. Our science year learning about the scientific method and tools sci-entists use. These concepts are the foundation for preparing them to do their science fair projects this year. Students will soon be picking out a question to explore and test using the scientific method. This project will last until the week before Thanksgiving. The top three pro-jects in each class will be displayed in the school science fair to be evaluated by a team of judges. The top projects in all grade levels will be displayed at the county science fair at USF in February. Look for information soon regarding the requirements and deadlines to complete the project on time. As students continue to explore "The Island of the Blue Dolphins", they are also improving their reading with independent book choices from our media center. Students are looking at text to discover the author's purpose along with understanding the main idea and details of the books they are reading. All students have a reading goal to achieve. Reading 30 minutes each night will help them to achieve that goal and beyond.
We are looking for volunteers who would like to help with our Dec 2nd field trip to JA Biz-Town. You must have your own transportation to get there and back. If you are interested in helping for the day, send a note to your child's teacher. Be sure you have filed a SERVE ap-plication with the office. A SERVE form can be sent home at your request. If you would like further information regarding this field trip and volunteer duties, please contact: [email protected]. Volunteers must be 18 years or older.
Our new Music year is off to a good start. We are in the process of beginning our new pro-gram, "Music Mania", which will include training in both Chorus and Instruments. This pro-gram will be held after school from 2:30-4:00 on Wednesdays. We hope to see many of our 3rd-5th Graders involved. We will again be purchasing recorders to be used in the Music Room for instruction. You should be receiving letters soon concerning ordering information. We are looking forward to working with your children to help them develop their full musical and academic potential. Bryan Elementary is a proud supporter of the Plant City Relay for Life! Relay for Life raises money to fund cancer research and help cancer patients and their families. The event will be held in April at Plant City High School. This is a very large, family-oriented, community event in which we encourage each and every Bryan Bulldog and their family to attend. As the date draws closer, we will be sending home more information about this exciting and rewarding event. We will have several fundraising events during the school year in which we need the help of parent volunteers. If you are interested in donating your time to help your Bulldogs with this very worthy cause, please contact us by voicemail 757-9300 for more information. Some of the upcoming events we will participate in to raise money for this cause include:

Noticias de Mrs. Newsome! Bienvenidos a un nuevo año escolar. Empleados y estudiantes se están acostumbrando muy rápido y conociéndose a medida que “Enlazamos el Aprendizaje en los salones de clases”. El comienzo de un año escolar siempre trae consigo exámenes iniciales para que los maestros
tengan idea como preparar las lecciones educativas. Las maestras del Jardín Infantil estarán
compartiendo con los padres el resultado de los exámenes durante la primera noche de con-
ferencias y los grados de primero a quinto también compartirán infomación importante. Por

Noticias del Jardín Infantil! El jardín Infantil ha tenido un buen comienzo! Estamos trabajando duro para aprendernos las letras y sonidos y asi convertirnos en lectores y escritores brillantes. El Corral de Primer Grado!
LECTURA: En Primer grado aprendemos nuevas experiencias, des-cubrimos y crecemos. Aquí en primer grado pasaremos mucho tiempo leyendo una variedad de libros. Esperamos que su niño(a) esté leyendo mucho en casa. MATEMATICAS: Los estudiantes están aprendiendo muchos concep-tos nuevos y estrategias en matemáticas. Ellos trabajan en grupos pe-
queños haciendo actividades. Hasta ahora, hemos aprendido diferentes formas de sumar y es-tamos aprendiendo a restar. Matemáticas es un reto y una actividad interactiva! Por favor ayude a su niño(a) si lo necesita. CIENCIA: Hemos estado trabajando seleccionando objetos observado por sus propiedades como tamaño, forma, color, temperatura (caliente/frio), textura y si el objeto se hunde o flota. Después, estaremos trabajando en las diferentes formas en que un objeto se puede mover como por ejemplo en línea recta, para atrás y para adelante, en círculo o en curvas, despacio o rápido. Los estudiantes estarán haciendo muchas actividades. ESTUDIOS SOCIALES: Los reglamentos de la escuela en los salones de clases son muy im-portantes. Noticias por Nivel de Grado
Corral de Segundo Grado! Bienvenidos de vuelta a clases! Hemos tenido una maravillosa apertura este año escolar. Los segundos grados han llegado preparados y listos para aprender. Estamos muy ocupados este mes. En matemáticas, estamos aprendiendo a colocar valores, y estamos leyendo mucho; tuvimos una orientación en la biblioteca antes de empezar a sacar libros para leer. Estamos aprendiendo acerca de John Appleseed (Juan y las semillas de manzana) y como usar mapas en studios sociales. Tambien estamos disfrutando muchas actividades de investigacion en cien-cias. Los segundos y primeros grados tendrán una presentacion el 21 de septiembre durante la noche familiar. Esperamos conocer a todos los padres durante la noche que se entregará el re-porte de calificaciones.
Physical Education Department Noticias de los Entrenadores
En la clase de Educación Física, los estudiantes están participando en gimnasia educa-
cional. Estamos aprendiendo a balancearnos, tener flexibilidad, y rutinas de volteretas.
Empezaremos las pruebas de PEDAT muy pronto, lo cual incluirá hacer lagartijas, tirar y
pescar la pelota, y demostrar habilidades locomotoras.
Consejos para los Padres: Ejercicio de estiramiento con su niño(a) sería una gran idea para
que mejoren la flexibilidad del cuerpo lo cual le ayudará a disminuir dolores musculares.
Noticias de los Cuarto Grados Los cuartos grados han tenido un asombroso comienzo. Los estudiantes se están acostumbrando a sus maes-tros(as) y compañeros de clases. Lectura: Los estudiantes están aprendiendo ha analizar y hacer connecciones de historias. Para lograrlo, nos enfocamos en la idea principal, los detalles, desarrollo del argumento, he identificar el problema y la solucion en la historia. Los estudiantes se están divirtiendo mucho usando diferentes actividades que les ayuda a deducir y ganar experiencia. Escritura: Los estudiantes están practicando como planear una composición. Están trabajando con diferentes modelos para elaborarla. Ellos estan contentos de usar sus imaginaciones al escribir hsitorias fantásticas. Matemáticas: Los estudiantes estan aprendiendo a colocar valores hasta la unidad de millón. Estan usando lineas numéricas y modelos para identificar los números. Pidale a su niño(a) que le cante una de las canciones
que han aprendido para colocar valores. Ciencia: Los estudiantes están aprendiendo como usar sus heramientas de información. Mas adelante empezaremos a aprender las diferentes etapas de la materia.

Quinto Grados! Los quintos grados estan ensillándose para el triunfo con nuestro nuevo material de matemáticas! El Nuevo programa de la Florida GoMath! está lleno de contenido matemático y muchos factores interesantes acerca de la Florida. A medida que ellos abordan los nuevos estándares de matémati-cas, han estado aprendiendo como hacer gráficas y analizar datos. Tam-bién están aprendiendo a dividir usando problemas reales para resolver preguntas. En las próximas semanas estarán aprendiendo a resolver problemas de división usando dos digitos. En ciencias están aprendiendo los diferentes métodos científicos y las her-ramientas que usan los científicos. Esos conceptos son fundamentals para que preparen proyectos científicos para el festival de ciencias de este año. Pronto los estudiantes estarán preparados para hacer preguntas , explorar y examinar los diferentes métodos científicos. Este proyecto durará hasta la semana antes del Día de Acción de Gracia. Los tres mejores proyectos de cada clase serán exhibidos en la feria de la ciencia de la escuela y serán evaluados por un grupo de jueces. El proyecto ganador será exhibido en la feria de la ciencia del condado en la Universiad del Sur de la Florida durante el mes de febrero. Pronto se les enviará mas información relacionada con los requisitos y fechas limite para terminar este proyecto a tiempo. A medida que los estudiantes continúan explorando" la isla de los Delfines Azules", también están leyendo mucho mejor de forma independiente libros que ellos mismo escogen de nuestra biblioteca. Estan descubriendo el propósito del autor del libro a la vez que estan entendiendo la idea principal y detalles de la lectura. Todos los estudiantes tienen una meta que alcanzar en lectura. Leyendo 30 minutos cada noche, les ayudará a alcanzar y pasar esta meta.
Estamos necesitando voluntarios que quieran ir a la excursión el 2 de diciembre a JA BizTown. Tiene que tener su propio transporte de ida y vuelta. Si está interesado(a) en ayudar ese dia, envíele una nota a la maestra(o) de su niño(a). Asegúrese de haber llenado en la oficina de la escuela el formu-lario para ser voluntario. Este formulario puede ser enviado a su casa si lo solicita. Si necesita más información relacionada con este viaje, favor contacte a : [email protected]. Los voluntarios deben ser mayores de 18 años.
El año ha empezado bien para la clase de Música. Estamos en el proceso de empezar un Nuevo programa llamado, "Música Mania", lo cual incluirá entrenamiento en el coro e instrumentos. El pro-grama se llevará a cabo después de clases de 2:30-4:00 los miércoles y los días de salida temprano de 12:30-2:30. Esperamos ver muchos estudiantes de 3ro– 4to y 5to Grados. Nuevamente compraremos grabaciones instructivas que serán usadas en el salón de Música. Pronto estará recibiendo información relacionada como ordenarlas. Esperamos trabajar con sus niños(as) y ayudarlos a desarrollar todo el potencial musical y acadé-mico. Sabían que los Bulldogs están trabajando en un nuevo programa educativo de matemáticas este año? “Go Math!” (Nuestro Nuevo Plan Educativo) y nuestro departamento de matemáticas del Distrito tiene maestros y estudiantes enfocándose y profundizándose en los conceptos matematicos. Aqui tienen algunas palabras y ideas que talves escuche de sus niño(as)cuando estén haciendo sus tareas de matemáticas! La Escuela Elemental Bryan se enorgullese en apoyar la Carrera por la Vida de Plant City para recolectar fondos para ayudar a los pacientes con cancer y sus familiars y también para ayudar a encontrar la cura. Esta actividad se llevará a cabo en abril en la escuela secuen-daria de Plant City. Esta es una gran actividad orientada a la familia y a la comunidad, por lo que los exhortamos a que todos los estudiantes de la familia de Bryan Bulldog y sus familiar s participen. A medida que la fecha se acerque, estaremos enviando mas información de este evento. Tendremos varias actividades de colecta a traves del año escolar y necesitaremos de la ayuda de padres voluntarios. en el edificio. Este plan está disponible en la oficina principal durante horas laborables para ser revisado.
Si desea copia del mismo puede adquirirla pagando el costo de las copias. También está disponible para
ser revisado por los empleados del edificio antes de las horas laborables y sin costo alguno. La informa-
ción contenida en este Plan incluye la inspección más reciente, las acciones tomadas o planeadas, la su-
pervición y las actividades e inspecciones periódicas.
