What You Do: Before the Activity: Pour the rice into the bowl and set it on the table along with the spoons. If desired, precut three-inch strips of duct tape. During the Activity: Talk about the Bible lesson as the kids pour rice in one side of the egg. Help them secure with the other side, wrap the duct tape around the seam to seal, and have kids add stickers to their eggs. Write kids’ names on the eggs or duct tape. What You Say: Before the Activity: “In our Bible lesson we heard about David. We learned how David showed God how thankful and happy he was for all the things God did for him. (Hold up an egg and pop it open.) You take the big half (show that one is bigger than the other) and then you pour two spoonfuls of rice into your egg. (Help kids do this.) Super! Now we need to close up the egg. (Show how to add the other half. Help as needed.) Now we need to add this fun tape around the middle to keep it closed. (Let kids help put it on and/or smooth it out.) And then the last thing to add stickers and your name! Put your stickers on the egg. (Help as needed and write the children’s names on their eggs.) Now give it a shake.” After the Activity: “You made some neat instruments today to praise God. When I say thank you, I want you to shake your shakers twice. Ready? Thank you! (Shake, shake.) Thank you! (Shake, shake.) Thank you! (Shake, shake.) Awesome, friends! David and his friends praised God by singing, dancing, and playing musical instruments. Small Group Time What you Need: Parent Take Home Card, Playdoh, Rolling Pins, and Sticker Roll SMALL GROUP LEADER (SGL): “Raise your hand if you like Playdoh. (Pause and raise your own hand.) I do too! Today, I have some really special cookie cutters we can play with. Can you tell me what shape they are? (Pause.) You are right! They are shaped like people! They are shaped like you and me! Let’s make ourselves out of Playdoh. (Have each child make one cookie cut out.)” “Have you ever been so happy inside that you wanted to jump around or sing a song or even dance? (Pause.) That’s what happened to King David in our lesson today. King David loved God SO much that he went outside where everyone could see and played music and danced for God! Can you make your Playdoh self dance? (Pause.) Can you make him sing? (Pause.) Great job! You are the best singers and dancers!” “King David praised God because God is loving and powerful and totally the bestest friend EVER! That’s right! God is our good friend too. Today we’re going to make a list of things we love about our good friend, God. We can use our list when we pray, because God made you and me to praise Him, just like He made King David to praise Him. (Go around and let each child say one thing they love about God.) God loves us so much that He gives you and me good friends. Who gives you good friends?” (Pause.) God gives me good friends!” Ok, it’s time to review our lesson. I am going to ask you some questions and you will get a sticker for answering them. I have some really cool sticker today. Are you ready? (Pause) Great! (Ask the children the questions from the “Parent Take Home Cards”. You can also make up additional questions from our video lesson. Don’t forget to ask them to say their memory verse for another sticker. You can repeat the same questions over and over as repetition is good for preschoolers.) You are such great listeners!” “Now I’ll pray before it’s time to say goodbye until next week. (Read the prayer on the back of the “Parent Take Home Card.”)”
