Dear Colleagues,
It is a great pleasure and honor to cordially welcome you to the Serbian conference on INtERventional cardioloGY and cardiovascular imaging – SINERGY, which will take place in Belgrade, Serbia, on Sep-tember 7-9, 2017.
We would like to celebrate the 40th anniversary of angioplasty by promoting collaboration between interventional cardiologists, cardiac imaging specialists and cardiac surgeons from the East (India, Chi-na and Japan) and the West (Europe) and build a partnership based on a common goal – to improve patient care. We would like also to address needs specific to the countries of our broader region, includ-ing Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Greece, Hungary, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, etc., and to offer cardiovascular professionals the opportunity to learn from the best, to share knowledge and experience, and debate ideas.
Our invited distinguished speakers and operators include key opinion leaders from both Europe and Asia, who will discuss current practice and future developments in a globally evolving field of interven-tional cardiovascular medicine and cardiovascular imaging, thus reflecting the motto of this confer-ence: The East meets the West in Serbia.
The idea of the meeting is to join interventional cardiologists and noninvasive cardiologists in discus-sions related to CAD, ACS, VHD, heart failure. The meeting is intended to be practical, case-based, total-ly interactive, and to offer interesting scientific and educational content to interventional and imaging specialists, but also to general cardiologists and fellows.
We offer a course on complex PCI for young interventionalists that has been developed in collaboration with the European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular Intervention (EAPCI), as well as interac-tive course on imaging in aortic stenosis and case-based focus cardiac ultrasound learning. In addition, interactive sessions will be dedicated to research infrastructure and ongoing projects in European and Asian cardiovascular centers of excellence.
We are convinced that SINERGY 2017 will provide a high-quality educational and scientific event with a special emphasis on regional perspectives and collaboration. This conference has been developed in collaboration with prominent members of the EAPCI and European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI) and will help to establish a regional network of cardiovascular centers of excellence, with the goal of initiating collaborative research projects and expanding educational and training op-portunities in the field of interventional cardiovascular medicine and cardiovascular imaging, in the region of Southeastern Europe.
We do hope that SINERGY 2017 will meet your expectations and trust that you will enjoy visiting our beautiful and exciting city.
Looking forward to meeting you in Belgrade in autumn 2017.
SINERGY 2017,
Organizing Committee

Belgrade
IN SHORT
Belgrade is the capital of the southeast European country of Serbia. Its most significant landmark is Beogradska Tvrđava, an imposing fortress at the confluence of the Danube and the Sava rivers. A testament to the city’s strategic importance to the Roman, Byzantine, Ottoman, Serbian and Austri-
an empires, the fortress is now the site of several museums and Kalemegdan, a vast park.
PEOPLE AND CULTURE
If there is one thing that surprises people when they come to Belgrade for the first time, it’s the people.
You hear all those stories of nationalism and bad politics and you’d expect Belgraders to be grumpy, tired folks who probably like nothing more than cursing at westerners – NOT SO.
Serbians in general are loud, happy, outgoing, hospitable people always happy to meet new peo-ple and have guests over.
The culture is very intimate and it’s incredibly easy to make contact with people – it also helps that they speak English a lot better than any of their East European neighbors.
Sure, you’ll occasionally run into a super-obnoxious cab driver but hey, that just adds to the charm.
Generally, what you will see in downtown Belgrade is crowds of young, beautiful people sitting around cafes, eager for some fun – and more than happy to talk to and entertain foreigners.
Don’t be surprised if you ask someone for directions and they end up taking you where you want to go, giving you a free lesson of Serbian culture, politics and history, buying you drinks, and invit-
ing you home for mom’s dinner
