Series 70 eRPP

Basic Purpose

The LayerZero Series 70 eRPP provides a convenient means to

distribute power in a selective trip coordinated; and safe manner.

Inspired by NFPA-70E, the Series 70 eRPP™ remote power panel

is ideally suited for today’s high density always-on data-processing

environments.

The Series 70 eRPP increases reliability in two ways:

• Utilizes Finger-Safe Panel Board

• Provides Selective Trip Coordination Up to 25kAIC

With its SafePanel™ advanced design, there are no live parts

exposed when the deadfront is open and you can add a branch

breaker safely. Selective tripping eliminates the catastrophic

problems associated with the tripping of the panel board

main breaker in the event of a fault in the distribution system

downstream of a panel board branch breaker.

The panel board of the eRPP is designed for maximum operator

safety with its fully enclosed molded plastic bus and non-

conducting screws. Perfect for a raised-floor application, all feeder

and branch connections can be installed & thermal scanned fully

front and top of the Series 70 eRPP.

The Difference Is In The Details

The Series 70 eRPP provides power distribution with a focus on safety, reliability, connectivity, and information centricity. The

eRPP is on the forefront of design ingenuity, designed to meet the needs of professionals with the highest standards, providing

safe, selective-trip coordinated power that is flexible, scalable, and extremely reliable. The Series 70 eRPP empowers data center

specialists with a wealth of remotely-accessible power information, compatible with standard system management software.

LayerZero Designs For Long-Term Performance

The Series 70 eRPP is constructed to be strong and exceptionally reliable, both electrically

and mechanically.

Designed for safe and easy maintenance, the shape of the SafePanel™ on the eRPP

significantly reduces the probability of operator error, helping to ensure maximum uptime.

Operators are less prone to make mistakes when working with a finger-safe panel. Design

details such as breaker bolts that are not live and insulated buswork also help increase

reliability by putting less stress on operators.

Each branch breaker undergoes one controlled thermal trip and two controlled

instantaneous trips to ensure that the branch breaker performance is within design

tolerance.

Maximize Reliability With Selective Trip Coordination

The trend toward higher power density designs in modern data centers has created new difficulties in establishing proper circuit

breaker coordination. Higher capacity power distribution transformers with lower per-unit impedance has elevated fault current

levels and placed increasing coordination pressure on all downstream protective devices.

Main circuit breakers in series with traditional zero crossing branch circuit breakers may not permit proper selective trip coordination

at elevated fault current levels.

Selective trip operation via proper coordination is achievable at very high prospective fault current levels by using current limiting

(fast acting) branch circuit breakers.

Current limiting branch circuit breakers substantially ease the coordination design process, improve overall system reliability and

yield measurable uptime improvement for the mission critical facility end user.

Branch Breakers Need To Be High Speed Because:

Push Close

Contact Closes

Current Flow (Load) Current Flow (Source)

True mission critical performance is achieved when RPP

components are designed to trip selectively; AND have the property of current-limiting or

high-speed tripping.

Fast Acting Circuit Breakers

The circuit breakers in the Series 70: eRPP are plug-in, high-speed, current limiting, 25kAIC; designed for selective tripping. A bolted

fault on the output of one branch circuit breaker is interrupted in less than 4 milliseconds. This fast tripping action, combined with

the fact that the main circuit breaker does not trip means that the rest of the loads fed by the panel board survive the fault.

The voltage interruption on the main bus is less than a quarter cycle.

The panel board designed with fault withstand rating of 25kA for robust performance in a dynamic environment.

- This means that the panel board main bus experiences an outage that loads cannot tolerate

before the fault is cleared.

- In this situation, even if selective tripping is ensured by the proper selection of the much slower

main breaker, all of the panel board loads may be lost by virtue of a longer outage on its main bus.

• Computer loads cannot

withstand an outage greater

than 20 milliseconds (roughly

1.25 electrical cycles), per ITIC.

• When a fault occurs downstream of

a branch breaker, it impinges zero-

voltage on the main bus of the panel

board until the breaker is able to trip

open and clear the fault.

• A conventional “zero-crossing”

type branch breaker can take

several cycles to trip open when

subjected to a downstream fault.

Reliability

Screw Thread Inserts

LayerZero utilizes Heli-Coil inserts on bolted joints for prevailing torques and long-term reliability. Such connections are designed to retain a constant torque throughout the life of the product.

Convection Cooling

For maximum availability, the Series 70 eRPP utilizes convection cooling. The convection cooled eRPP design allows for heat to be safely dissipated without the need for fans, for higher reliability.

Machined Cap Screws & Disc Springs

Our systems utilize machined cap screws and engineered disc springs with a flat pressure vs deflection profile to ensure that all bolted connections maintain constant torque through the life of the product.

Designed for operator safetyAn arc can form as two live conductors are separated – such as the removal of a circuit breaker from a panel board.

The SafePanel design ensures that a potential arc would be contained in the connection well even if a branch breaker were to be removed.

The connection well is over 1” deep

Designed For Raised Floor Application

The unit is raised to provide for space for cabling at the bottom of the unit, and the holes punch downward to allow for easy cable installation.

Polycarbonate Window

The status of breakers can be safely viewed through the window.

Safety in the data center is a serious concern, as the hazards associated with arc flash and electrical shock kill, blind, and burn thousands of workers annually. Most of the damage caused by workplace accidents can be prevented.

We believe it is the responsibility of manufacturers to proactively design equipment that does not require exposure to energized parts during normal operations.

Our Series 70 product line was inspired by NFPA-70E to help critical facilities drastically reduce the risks of exposure to electrical energy.
