SERMON OUTLINE — 01.04.15 Living that Assures(1 John 2:15-17)

Introduction: 1 John 1:9, 1 John 2:1, Romans 7:18-19

I. Focus on loving God. (1 John 2:15, Ephesians 2:1-2, Luke 16:13)

If you focus on loving God, then obedience will follow.

II. Avoid the lure of worldly things. (1 John 2:16, Galatians 5:16-17, Matthew 13:22)

A. The desires of the flesh.

Worldly philosophy--hedonism.

Antidote is self-control.

B. The desires of the eyes.

Worldly philosophy--materialism.

Antidote is generosity.

C. The pride of life.

Worldly philosophy--secularism.

Antidote is humility or humble service.

III. Keep the end in mind. (1John 2:17)
