The Hebrews’ View of Time
This Age The Age to Come
(marked by sin, selfishness,
disease, death)
(marked by life, love righteousness, peace)
Key Thought #2
Marriage and sex are temporary things designed
for this age to populate and “to fill the earth.”
Key Thought #3
Marriage and sex are necessary things due to the
reality of sin and death in this age.
“You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy;
at your right hand are pleasures evermore.”
~ Psalm 16:11
“I think our present outlook might be like that of a small boy who, on being told that
the sexual act was the highest bodily pleasure should immediately ask
whether you ate chocolates at the same time. On
receiving the answer ‘No, he might regard absence of chocolates as the chief
characteristic of sexuality.
“In vain would you tell him that the reason why lovers
in their carnal raptures don’t bother about chocolates is that they have something better to think of. The boy knows chocolate: he does not know the positive thing
that excludes it.
“We are in the same position. We know the sexual life; we do not
know, except in glimpses, the other thing which, in Heaven, will leave no
room for it.”
“If we consider the unblushing promises of
reward and the staggering nature of the rewards promised in the Gospels, it would seem that our Lord finds our desires, not too strong,
but too weak.
“We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and
ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an
ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies
in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a
holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.”
“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has imagined what God has
prepared for those who love him.” ~ The Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 2:9 (NLT) ~
However great or horrible marriage or sex may have been for you, heaven takes us into a
dimension where one is called to imagine the unimaginable.
”~ Tim Lane “Heaven: Better Than Sex?”

?Question #2:
What does Jesus mean when he speaks of “…those who are considered worthy to
attain to that age and to the resurrection of the dead?”
?Question #3:
What does Jesus mean when he says,“…they are
equal to the angels and are sons of God?”
37 But that the dead are raised, even
The Gospel of Luke 20:27-40
Moses showed, in the passage about thebush, where he calls the Lord the God ofAbraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob. 38 Now he is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for all live tohim.
39 Then some of the scribes answered,
The Gospel of Luke 20:27-40
“Teacher, you have spoken well.” 40 Forthey no longer dared to ask him any question.
Th resurrection is part of the Good news of the Kingdom of God that Jesus
proclaimed as true and demonstrated as real by his own death and resurrection.
“There was a real railway accident,” Aslan said softly.
“Your father and your mother and all of you are—as you
used to call it in the Shadowlands—dead. The term is over: the
holidays have begun. The dream is ended: this is the
morning.”
And as He spoke, He no longer looked to them like a
lion; but the things that began to happen after that were so great and beautiful
that I cannot write them.
And for us this is the end of all the stories, and we can most truly say that they all lived happily ever after. But
for them it was only the beginning of the real story.
All their life in this world and all their adventures in Narnia had only been the cover and
the title page: now at last they were beginning Chapter One of the Great Story which no one on earth has read—which goes on for ever—in
which every chapter is better than the one before.
May you know the truth that Jesus is the resurrection and life, and may you eagerly long
for that fullness of joy at God’s right hand where there are are
pleasures evermore.
