SERPENT CRUSHERS:

TEMPTATION LIVING IN VICTORY

CREATION OR CREATOR

NIVBeginnings: A Study of Genesis 1-11

Romans 1:25

25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

1 Cor. 2:6-11

6 We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. 7 No, we declare God’s wisdom, a mystery that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. 8 None of the rulers of this age understood it.

for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 9 However, as it is written:“What no eye has seen,    what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived”[b]—    the things God has prepared for those who love him—

10 these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11 For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12 What we have received is not the spirit of the

world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us.13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.

14 The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and

cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. 15 The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, 16 for,“Who has known the mind of the Lord    so as to instruct him?”But we have the mind of Christ.

OUTLINE OF PASSAGE"The Attack on God’s word and our

relationship" (3:1-7)

"Shame in the Presence of God" (3:8-13)

"God's Curses Upon the Guilty" (3:14-19)

"Hope for the Future" (3:20-24)

When we speak, we speak out of what is in our hearts.

From the Heart of God

The first spoken words recorded in the Bible are those of God as He

brought the universe into existence, gave it order, and illumined it with

the presence of His holy glory

From the Heart of The Enemy

The first recorded words in the Bible from Satan are words that are a

challenge and contradiction to God’s word.

Methods of bringing us away from trusting God’s Word

First, he gets you to doubt God’s word:

"Now the serpent was more crafty than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, "Indeed, has God said, ‘You shall not eat from any tree of

the garden’?" (Gen. 3:1).

Second, he then contradicts God's word:

And the serpent said to the woman, "You surely shall not die! (Gen. 3:4).

Third, He reinterprets God’s word.

"For God knows that in the day you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing

good and evil." (Gen. 3:5).

Satan attacks us in our areas of weakness.

Methods are Predictable.

SATAN APPEALED TO HER PHYSICAL NEEDS

EVE -You may eat of the tree (Gen. 3:1) - her appetite. She listened to

Him. Her first mistake.

JESUS - You may eat by changing stones to bread (Matt. 4:3)

SATAN USES AN APPEAL TO PERSONAL POWER AND/OR

GLORY.EVE – You will be like God

(Gen. 3:5).

JESUS - You will have all the world’s Kingdoms (Matt. 4:8-9)

SATAN APPEALED TO HER PERSONAL GAIN

Eve - You will not die (Gen. 3:4)

JESUS - You will not hurt your foot (Matt. 4:6).

How do you resist the devil?

You rely on God’s word.

CHALLENGE:Use your best defense against the

temptations of the devil by relying on God’s word. Remember these

Truths!

The enemy has no power over God’s word.   But you being a Christian have the power and authority to use God’s word and you must use it and know it. John 1:12

You have the power to use God’s word because if you are a Christian then you have been saved by the sacrifice of Christ and made right before God by faith in Him.1 John 4:4; Rom. 8:37-39.

We have no need to fear the enemy because Jesus has defeated him. James 4:7
