NOTICEMCI is re---releasing MCI Service Bulletin 2940 to remind our customers of the updates made to theofficial ZF approved lubricant list for ZF AS-Tronic transmissions.

Attached to this service bulletin is ZF List of Lubricants---TE-ML 02.

Description:This service bulletin updates the official ZF approved lubricant list for ZF AS-Tronic transmissions.

NOTECognis is replacing the Emgard Synthetic 50 transmission oil 2924, which is a ZF AS-Tronic transmissionapproved lubricant, with Emgard Synthetic 50 transmission oil 2979. The new, replacement oil 2979 hasnot met ZF’s requirements and is not released for use in ZF AS-Tronic transmissions.

Customers are instructed to apply the specifications outlined in the attached 3 page ZF TechnicalBulletin ZF 01---06, titled New 2979 Cognis EMGARD Synthetic 50 Transmission Oil, to avoid shorttransmission life / damage to seal rings and synchronizers in AS-Tronic transmissions.

Changes in the ZF List of Lubricants TE-ML 02 In January 2007, the new ZF List of Lubricants for Commercial Vehicles, TE-ML 02, will be pub-lished. Once again, we would like to draw your attention to the following, specific changes in the List of Lubricants:

Eliminated from the lubricant category 02L -> the oil grade:

CASTROL SYNTRANS

This oil no longer corresponds to the requirements established in the List of Lubricants, TE-ML 02, and consequently, it may no longer be used for repairs or oil changes within the context of standard maintenance/servicing works.

Newly added to the lubricant category 02L -> the oil grade: FUCHS TITAN CYTRAC MAN SYNTH 75W-80 This oil fully corresponds to the requirements established for the lubricant category 02L. Note: The previously used CASTROL SYNTRANS oil grade from the lubricant category 02L must not be mixed up with the CASTROL SYNTRANS MAX 75W-80 oil grade of the lubricant category 02E. Recommendation: After transmission repairs, we always recommend to only use oil grades from the class 02E. Thus, it can be ensured that the running in behavior is effected under the same conditions for those spare parts newly installed during repair jobs as for the standard volume production trans-missions. Validity: This Service Information is valid as of January 01, 2007 for an unlimited period.

___________________________________________________________________________ Possible Symptoms: Short Transmission Life / Damage of Seal Rings and Synchronizers in AS-Tronic transmissions ___________________________________________________________________________ Subject: New 2979 Cognis EMGARD Synthetic 50 Transmission Oil We have been informed that Cognis will replace EMGARD Synthetic 50 Transmission Oil 2924 to EMGARD Synthetic 50 Transmission Oil 2979. !!You must NOT use the 2979 in ZF AS-Tronic transmission applications!! The new, replacement oil (2979) did not pass ZF test requirements and it is not released for use in AS-Tronic transmission. Please note: The quality of oil is very important to the life of the transmission. Subtle differences can have an impact and hence ZF takes validation of oil very seriously. For Service, the 2924 oil is also available and can be distinguished as follows. The differences can be found on the label as well as by the color of the oil. Many oils in the market are based on the Cognis Emgard oil and the approved version (EMGARD 2924) could have the following information on the label.
