Aldana Jr. Educational Awards 2018 and 2019, Equipment Donation Program, and Filipiniana 10 Year Anniversary Gala The Benigno S. Aldana Jr., Educational Awards 2018 and 2019 In the fall of 2018, NOF presented six (6) awards to residents from Indonesia, Vietnam, and Nepal to attend the Asian Australasian Advanced Course of Pediatric Neurosurgery (AAACPN) in Japan. They were: Dr. Edo Johanes Namalo Sihombing, Indonesia Dr. Christian Ariono, Indonesia Dr. Dipendra Kumar Shrestha, Nepal Dr. Erwin Wijatmiko, Indonesia Dr. Ferdinan Tjungkagi, Indonesia Dr. Nguyen Thi Thuy Tien, Vietnam Some of these trainees would not have been able to attend without the NOF award. At the same time, NOF had a chance to present its programs to the Trinity Love Hoblit Foundation (TLHF) with the hopes of expanding the Educational Award. The presentation was a success! TLHF’s mission is to support and fund neurological research, training, and treatment for brain aneurysms, strokes, and other cerebrovascular condition; and to raise awareness was in line with NOF’s mission. As a result, TLHF committed to supporting our growing educational awards for (1) Innovations in Cerebrovascular (CV) Science and World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies Endorsed Bypass Skull-base Course in Jacksonville, and (2) Jacksonville Traveling Fellowship. These awards allow residents/trainees to come to Jacksonville to further their education. Congratulations to the first awardees for 2019 Innovation of CV Science and Skull-base Course: Dr. Auricelio Cezar Batista, Jr., Brazil Dr. Andre Bissoli, Brazil Dr. Gustavo Cardoso, Brazil Dr. Felipe Ferreira, Brazil Dr. Bernardo Keuffer Mendonca, Brazil Dr. Galih Indra Permana, Indonesia Dr. Barbara Contarato Pilon, Brazil Dr. Antonio Prates, Jr., Brazil The awardees for the Jacksonville Traveling Fellowship will be announced in the summer. Friends of NOF Newsletter Spring 20 19 Equipment Donation Program: Gifts to Hospitals In many hospitals around the developing world, resources are so limited that they can resort to re-sterilizing disposable medical supplies so more patients can receive treatment. Hospital staff get creative in maximizing their resources as they are short on quantity for the number of patients they treat. Meanwhile, across the ocean, medical staff collect medical and surgical supplies and instruments that are being disposed but are still useful. They are thrown out because newer versions are available, they are approaching their suggested expiration date or that they are no longer being used due to replacement by a different brand. Whatever the reasons, they can often be re-purposed. So, they get collected for NOF. We are fortunate to receive such supplies from Jacksonville hospitals. One Saturday in February a team from JP Morgan Chase GoodWorks volunteered to go through all the medical supplies estimated value of $11000. They sorted, packed, and shipped several boxes of them to an under-resourced hospital in Manila, Philppines. Good work JP Morgan Chase volunteers! Thank you Jacksonville!

Filipiniana: 10 Year Anniversary Fundraising Gala

Your journey to the Philippines is set for August 17, 2019! Imagine traveling back in time to experience the old world charm of Manila without old world technology. No need to sail in a ship or fly for days, attend NOF’s anniversary gala and be immediately transported to Intramuros society. You are a guest of some prominent peninsulares' home that is filled with beautiful Philippine art by Edgar Carabio (Tampa), Pamela Gotangco (Zurich), Hadrian Mendoza (Washington DC) and more.

You hear ballads strummed from a guitar. Then you enter the main sala where you will dine among friends and savor traditional dishes modernized by Jax Filipino Chefs. Art for sale and thoughtfully curated items for silent auction await you, too. All this to raise funds for the programs of NOF. It is a feast for your senses not often found in Jacksonville.

This event will sell out, so, be sure to reply early to ensure you have the best seat in the house. Your invitation is in the mail. We look forward to celebrating this historic milestone for NOF with you at the WJCT Studios, Jacksonville on August 17. Celebrate our accomplishments together and celebrate for going strong 10 more years on.
