Service from a single source From planning up to maintenance

Holistic service solutions during the entire lifecycle.Expert support for our customers.

In order to be able to professionally evaluate and optimise all specific product characteristics of turnouts, these must be accompanied over the duration of their entire lifecycle. This lifecycle starts with the design via installation support up to maintenance and recycling. As manufacturer, we fall back on knowledge from more than 160 years of turnout development as the basic knowhow for our optional professional service. Due to this experience, we are able to offer our customers innovative solutions at the highest technical level and simultaneously ensure the efficiency of the rail-type communication track.

In that, the focus is on the holistic maintenance of the turnouts, including the signalling componen-ts. With the optimal interaction of logistics (just in time delivery), installation monitoring (technical consulting & quality assurance) and turnout service, we guarantee our customers maximum reliability and availability of the turnouts and crossings, with simultaneous extension of the product service life. Thus, practice-oriented applications with the highest possible customer benefit and innovative concepts at the highest technical level result.

The perfect interaction of all service components constitutes our professionalism

Installation support

Professional installation support at voestalpine VAE comprises monitoring of transport and logistics, technical consulting and quality assurance as well as the installation check, including the required documentation. In order to extend the service life of the turnout, we offer an optional initial turnout service for all turnouts delivered by voestalpine VAE. For simple turnouts, this initial turnout service optimally takes place following reaching of the 3 million gross tonnage threshold, and for curved turnouts upon exceeding the 2 million gross tonnage threshold.

Training / Engineering services

Innovation and a high pace of development in turnout technology require permanent further and additional training. Today, the right knowhow and professional competence have become a decisive competitive edge. Modern turnout systems make special demands on planning, efficiency calculations, technology, assembly, trans-port, installation, inspection, maintenance and service. Therefore, we offer future-oriented training for technical questions on the subject of turnouts and thus promote the active dialogue between operator and manufacturer. Besides that, we offer engineering services for the turnout system. We are delighted to advise our customers and do that competently.

The quality, which a turnout has prior to commissioning, is of decisive significance for its service life. In order to be able to guarantee a long and fault-free lifecycle of our turnouts and track components right from the beginning, we offer optional individual services, starting with the turnout leaving the factory.

Under the brand WS Logistics, voestalpine VAE offers completely pre-assembled turnouts in all geometries, including logistic handling and delivery with special inclined wagons. WS Logistics has a turnout transport fleet of 15 turnout transport wagons (WTW, WTM).

Holistic servicing

Initial turnout service

Following installation, we optionally offer professional initial turnout service at all turnouts delivered in order to ensure reliability and efficiency of all system components.

•Deburring of switch device and crossing•Correction of track gauge, check-rail gauge and flange groove•Bending of the switches•Adjusting of the locking system•Check for loose fastening elements•Final geometrical check with the electronic turnout test gauge

and documentation of flange grooves and check-rail gauge•Transmission of the measured data to the customer

Turnout service

Regular turnout service enables the operation of your railway tracks with high safety and low maintenance expenses over the entire lifecycle.

•Combined servicing of the track and signalling components•Mechanical reconditioning of turnout components

(setting of the track gauges and flange grooves)•Servicing of the locking system•Servicing of insulated rail joints•Built-up and connection welding at all components and also at

special grades•Repair welding at common crossings•Replacement of components, including aluminothermic

welding•Final geometrical check with the electronic turnout test gauge

and documentation of flange grooves and check-rail gauge•Transmission of the measured data to the customer

Turnout grinding An efficient service concept for standard-gauge railways and in suburban transport

Targeted and planned servicing is an indispensable prerequisite for the required availability and reliability of the track. Regular grinding of the rails in tracks and turnouts is a fixed component of a holistic service strategy. The objective of rail machining in tracks and turnouts is to keep the consequences of rail damages for the overall system as low as possible and thus to minimise the costs.

As a system provider for turnouts, voestalpine VAE offers the network operator, also in the area of grinding rail maintenance, preventive servicing as well as cost-optimised and environment-friendly repair concepts with rail machining.

The objective is to clearly extend the lifetime of a turnout with rail machining and to respectively reduce the medium- and long-term service costs thereby.

Turnout grinding in three phases:Phase 1: Analysis and planningPhase 2: Rail machining to measurePhase 3: Environment-friendly cleaning

Suction and flushing unit SuSE

In order to minimise negative impact on the environment, we have a special vehicle for environment-friendly cleaning of turnouts and tracks following the grinding process. The innovative suction process supplements the conventional rail maintenance system with a particularly environment-friendly uptake of sediment and rail machining residues.

Milling/Re-profiling

Especially in an urban environment, where noise is an issue, milling can represent an attractive alternative to grinding. The advantages of re-profiling rails in suburban transport by milling are noise reduction, improved environmental compatibility, precision of processing, and subsequently increased productivity.
