Our mission at the Centro Internacional de Educacion (CIEL) is to empower students to become globally minded professionals by enabling hands-on work experience with host organizations in Mexico and within the LaSallian community.

Our Service Learning and Internship Placement Program provides a opportunity to gain valuable international work experience, improve Spanish language skills and cultural immersion opportunities.  Service LearningIn collaboration with our partner host organizations and with the Social Community Development Of�ce of the University, Service Learning placements are focused on serving and community spirit in organizations

that are working to improve the welfare of their community in areas such as educa-tion, health care, sustainable development, the environment, economic development, technology and more.

Internships Build your professional international work experience in Business, Health Care, Communications, and other �elds. Improve your skills set and work in a company or organization in Mexico.

Is a Christian inspired orphanage and Day Care for abandoned and disadvantaged children in Mexico City. This organization also provides counseling services to Mexican families who want to apply to become adoptive parents.

CASA CUNA LA PAZ

HOST ORGANIZATION PARTNERS CIEL keeps a constant good relationship with its service learning partners, and placement is upon request. Recent placements have been in the following host organizations:

EL CARACOL Is a private non pro�t organization that assists homeless street kids and young adults.The organization provides psychological support through workshops and courses and offers a Transition Support Program.

Is a private educational institution (K- 10) dedicated to help disadvantaged children to reach their academic and social potential.

CHRISTEL HOUSE

CIEL INTERNSHIPS CIEL offers Internship placements with companies and organizations based on academic background, language abilities, experience and skill sets. Internship placement is upon request and according to host organization requirements and seasonal needs. CIEL requires a 90 days advance notice for Internship placements. Internships are non remunerated.

RURAL COMMUNITY BASED PROGRAMS

Make a difference, volunteering and working side by side with locals at schools, orphanages and other community-based, service learning project locations. Placements consists of serving in an under privileged rural community, living with and participating in the daily activities of people who are often marginalized and in economic need.

Locations can be remote and some are part of the La Sallian network of services to the community.

Placement lengths vary and can include room and board in residences, living with fellow staff and volunteers.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES

3. Upon review of your application, LaSalle staff will ask you �ll out Service Learning Agreement and make a Placement Fee deposit.

4. Once you arrive in Mexico, you will receive orientation and detailed information on Service Learning or Internship Placement.

GENERAL INFORMATIONLa Salle Service Learning Internship Placements are available in many �elds. These placements can accommodate a variety of start and end dates and program lengths of 6-16 weeks. In the Letter of Intent, applicants should detail the area of interest for service placement they are seeking. We ask that students have some �exibility , CIEL will try to match area of interest ,experience and skills as closely as possible.

In general it is possible to start a placement at any time, however applications must be completed at least 60 days prior to the desired start date for service learning placements and 90 days for Internship placement.Although CIEL keeps a constant good relationship with its social service and internship providers, placements are upon request. CIEL will try to secure the most suitable placement, in the best interest of the student.

CIEL COMMITMENTMeet on regular basis and answer or clarify questions.

Submit Letter of Completion.

To select an appropriate placement based on academic background, experience and skill sets.

Provide a quali�ed staff person to serve as contact.

Assist student in �nding appropriate accommodation and getting adjusted to Mexican culture.

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES

Students must research information on Mexico; meet all Mexican visa requirements, secure medical insurance with coverage abroad. Students are responsible for international and domestic travel.

Submit all required documents

Report to Center for International Education, LaSalle University.

Complete work required by host organization and program.

Keep LaSalle University informed of any changes in contact information, and whereabouts especially when travelling away from placement.

Keep a professional attitude , comply with local ethical conduct and maintain good relations with host organization.
