The second annual 6th grade Turkey Bash was held on November 18. Students had a great time earning points for the coveted Turkey Bash Titan trophy. Points were earned throughout the night during Bingo, dodgeball, relays, and a pie-eating contest. Students collected 77 pounds of food items which were donated to CAER along with cards the students decorated that night. There was also a photobooth and cookie-decorating. Though we had our first snowstorm of the fall that night, those who were able to make it said they had a great time.

As a part of the Technology Curriculum at Spectrum High School, all students enrolled in MS Tech 8 and 21st Century Skills this year will be working toward earning their Basic Computer Skills Certificate through the NorthStar Digital Literacy Assessment (DLA) Program.

The Northstar Digital Literacy Project defines basic skills needed to perform tasks on computers and online in ten main areas: Basic Computer Use, Internet, Windows Operating System, Mac OS, Email, Microsoft Word, Social Media, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Information Literacy. A passing score allows students to obtain the Northstar Digital Literacy Certificate. This is a great credential for employment.

6th grade students are focusing on four of the assessments: Basic Computer Use, Internet, Windows Operating System, and Email. Next year, they will continue on with the remaining assessments with the goal of receiving certification by the time they are done with 8th grade MS Tech.

Ninety-nine percent of Quarter One MS Tech 8 and 21st Century Skills students have successfully completed the Basic Computer Skills Certificate in ALL TEN AREAS! Way to go, students, for working hard!

Spectrum extends a huge thank you to all the donors who contributed on Give to the Max Day in Novem-ber. Our school raised $2000 in donations! A portion of these funds will be used to purchase a 3D printer and software for use in teaching students 21st century technology skills. Students will gain experience in 3D modeling, design, and programming skills. Additionally, supplies will be purchased which our service learning groups will use to the benefit of our community.
