Our service begins with a procession of the palms to recall the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. The palms we wave reflect the fragility of the celebration—since a mere five days later, the crowd’s adulation turns to hatred. In Philippians, we read Paul’s account of Jesus’ ministry. Paul sums up the humiliation and the glory of Jesus that we prepare to honor this week. The gospel narrative is a retelling of the passion of Christ, drawing primarily from the gospel of Matthew.

the palms—The palms for our service have been provided by the Hanks Family Chapel Fund. This fund was established through the generosity of the late Miss Nancy Hanks, former Duke University Trustee, and her mother, the late Mrs. Virginia Hanks.

toDay’s offering—All of today’s cash offerings and undesignated checks will be used to support the Chapel’s PathWays program, which offers undergraduates and recent graduates opportunities to discern God’s call for their lives through study, counsel, service, and community. With the conclusion of the Lilly grant, the Chapel now supports 100% of PathWays’ expenses.
