The existing inversion valve (part number 21007503) may cause maximum brake system pressure while applying the truck’s work brake. The new pressure reduction valve (part number 25157242) will gradually regulate the proper brake system pressure to 379 kPa (55 psi) while applying the truck’s work brake. Pressure Reduction Valve, ReplacementLEU

PI0844, Pressure Reducing Valve, Replacement(April 2014)

Some MACK LEU trucks were built between 08/15/2012–11/05/2012, with an inversion valveinstalled instead of a pressure reducing valve for the work brake system. The existinginversion valve (part number 21007503) may cause maximum brake system pressure whileapplying the truck’s work brake. The new pressure reduction valve (part number 25157242)will gradually regulate the proper brake system pressure to 379 kPa (55 psi) while applyingthe truck’s work brake.

Valve InspectionYou must read and understand the precautions and guidelines in Service Information,group 50, "General Safety Practices, Brakes" before performing this procedure. If you arenot properly trained and certified in this procedure, ask your supervisor for training beforeyou perform it.

1 Park the vehicle on a level surface.2 Apply the parking brake.3 Place the transmission in neutral or park.4 Install the wheel chocks.

9 Remove the lower dash panel.

10 Inspect the valve closest to the bulk head of the paired valves for part number 25157242.

Note: If the inspected valve is a pressure reducing valve part number 25157242, go tostep 11 and complete the inspection.

Note: If the inspected valve is an inversion valve part number 21007503, go to step 10, ofValve Replacement and install the pressure reducing valve.

15Connect the battery cable to the negative (ground) terminal.

10Drain the air system.11 Disconnect the air lines from the inversion valve (part number 21007503).

CAUTION

There may be some residual air pressure in the air lines.

Note:Note the orientation of the air lines before removal.

13Position the inversion valve (1) away from the valve to be replaced (2).14Remove the inversion valve (2).

15Remove the valve fittings from the inversion valve.

Note:Note the orientation of the valve fittings before removal.

Note: Secure the valve fittings for reuse.

16Remove any old pipe thread sealant from the valve fittings.

Note: Thoroughly clean the valve fittings of any debris.

17Apply thread sealant to the valve fittings before assembly.

18 Install the valve fittings to the new pressure reducing valve (part number 25157242).

Note: Ensure the valve fittings are oriented as noted during removal.

19Position the pressure reduction valve (2) and inversion valve (1) as shown in figure below.

20 Install the fasteners securing the pressure reducing valve.21Tighten the fasteners to 10.4 Nm (92.4 in-lb).

22Connect the air lines to the pressure reducing valve fittings.

Note: Ensure the air lines are connected as noted during removal.

28Start and idle the engine until the proper brake system operating air pressure is attained.29Check and verify the brakes are operational.30Remove the wheel chocks.

If a label is not already affixed inside the cab, apply a label (part No. TS897)and supply the information as required.
