Since 2009, Small Kitchen Big Taste (SKBT) has shared the art and passion of cooking fresh, wholesome, delicious food with fellow New Haven area foodies. Founder Karen Lenahan, a Connecticut native and self-taught cook, started the company as a recipe-sharing blog and specialized catering venture, and rapidly saw the demand for expansion.
In 2013, the addition of Chef Sarah Fitzmaurice allowed Owner/Cook Karen to realize her dream of opening of SKBT’s main kitchen and storefront on Sackett Point Road in North Haven. Chef Sarah studied at Le Cordon Bleu in Boston, Massachusetts and has shared her culinary talent in local restaurants
and kitchens in the New Haven area for a number of years.
SKBT has blossomed into an award-winning prepared foods and boutique catering company, most recently selected #1 by the New Haven Advocate Best of New Haven in two categories: Prepared Foods To Go and Best Catering.
Karen and Sarah have designed a menu of fresh, seasonal and healthy prepared foods and decadent sweet treats, available Monday through Friday at the SKBT store for the perfect grab-and-go healthy meal for individuals and families. The menu is equally classic and eclectic, featuring long-

The Hamden Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Hamden Land Conservation Trust co-sponsored a debate of the candidates for Hamden mayor, on Monday, October 19, at Thornton Wilder Hall, Miller Memorial Library. Before an audience of about 120 people, incumbent Mayor Curt Leng and challenger Bob Anthony answered questions about Hamden’s finances, its economic future, relations with Quinnipiac University, and a number of other topics. The questions had been provided by members of the Chamber of Commerce and the Land Conservation Trust. Mayor Leng, who is the

Democratic candidate, was elected mayor in a special election required because of the resignation of Mayor Scott Jackson, who took a position with the State of Connecticut. Mr. Anthony, the Republican candidate, had run against Mayor
Leng in May, and was the Republican candidate against Mayor Jackson in 2013 as well. Mayor Leng emphasized the steps he said that the Jackson Administration had initiated, and that he has continued, to help stabilize Hamden’s property tax rates. Some of those steps include eliminating an insurance fund deficit, and
selling pension obligation bonds, which increased funding of the municipal pension plan from 8% to 40%. Mr. Anthony, who is a retired Hamden firefighter, said that the problems Hamden faces
should have been addressed long before now, and have led to the high mil rate; he promised to work to encourage businesses, particularly manufacturing, to move back to Hamden. The
debate was moderated by WQUN General Manager Ray Andrewsen. The debate was the second and final debate between the candidates, prior to Election Day, November 3.
